Mais um lançamento do ultraprodutivo Rogga Johansson, mas aqui ele assume sua persona como Revolting Rogga. Não me atrevo sequer a tentar mapear a quantidade de bandas e projetos nos quais ele está envolvido!
Neste lançamento, o décimo álbum da banda, o trio não se afasta muito de sua proposta habitual: um death metal sueco tradicional, com passagens de guitarras melódicas, muito peso e agressividade.
Nas duas primeiras faixas, “Supernatural Anthem” e “At Dusk They Rise”, eles já deixam claro como será o disco: rápido, pesado e, claro, repleto de riffs melódicos. Como não estão tentando reinventar a roda, entregam um álbum de death metal que, assim como seus trabalhos anteriores, parece ter vindo diretamente dos anos 1990.
“Upon the Chopping Block” já apresenta uma abordagem mais lenta, pesada e cadenciada, acompanhada por vocais mais rasgados. Já “Undead Wife, Happy Life” mescla elementos das faixas anteriores, alternando momentos mais rápidos com passagens lentas e melódicas, além de ótimos riffs e uma boa variedade vocal.
Em “Those Who Never Lived”, encontramos mais uma vez excelentes riffs e mudanças de andamento que mantêm a dinâmica do álbum e conduzem naturalmente para a próxima faixa. “The Dead Are Craving”, “Dungeon Overture” e “A Midnight Massacre” seguem a mesma fórmula de peso, cadência e riffs melódicos.
Para encerrar, “The End So Near” começa de forma lenta e cadenciada, trazendo riffs matadores e ótimas melodias, fechando o disco com sua tradicional temática de horror e grotesco.
É um álbum direto e objetivo. As músicas raramente ultrapassam os três minutos de duração, mas são carregadas de peso e riffs memoráveis, como já mencionei. O disco também nos faz pensar em como Rogga ainda consegue manter tanta criatividade não apenas para o Revolting, mas também para suas dezenas de outros projetos.
Trata-se de um bom álbum de death metal: não traz grandes novidades, mas é extremamente sólido. Não o subestime, pois uma dessas linhas de guitarra ou riffs pode acabar ficando presa na sua cabeça por muito tempo.

Another release from the ultra-prolific Rogga Johansson, though here he assumes his role as Revolting Rogga. I would not even dare to try mapping out the sheer number of bands and projects he is involved with!
On this release, the band’s tenth album, the trio does not stray far from its usual formula: traditional Swedish death metal filled with melodic guitar passages, crushing heaviness, and aggression.
The opening tracks, “Supernatural Anthem” and “At Dusk They Rise”, immediately make it clear what this album is all about: fast, heavy music packed with melodic riffs. Since the band is not trying to reinvent the wheel, they deliver a death metal album that, much like their previous efforts, sounds as though it came straight out of the 1990s.
“Upon the Chopping Block” takes a slower, heavier, and more deliberate approach, accompanied by harsher vocal delivery. Meanwhile, “Undead Wife, Happy Life” blends elements from the previous tracks, alternating faster sections with slower, melodic passages, while also featuring excellent riffs and a good variety of vocal styles.
On “Those Who Never Lived”, we once again encounter excellent riffs and tempo changes that keep the album dynamic and naturally lead into the next track. “The Dead Are Craving,” “Dungeon Overture,” and “A Midnight Massacre” continue the established formula of heaviness, groove, and melodic riffing.
To close the album, “The End So Near” begins at a slow, deliberate pace, featuring killer riffs and strong melodies, bringing the record to an end with its familiar themes of horror and the grotesque.
This is a straightforward and focused album. The songs rarely exceed three minutes in length, yet they are packed with heaviness and memorable riffs, as I have already mentioned. The record also makes you wonder how Rogga still manages to maintain such a high level of creativity not only for Revolting but also for the dozens of other projects in which he is involved.
This is a good death metal album. It may not offer anything groundbreaking, but it is extremely solid. Do not underestimate it, because one of those guitar lines or riffs may end up stuck in your head for a very long time.
