O 13º disco da banda é uma ótima surpresa. Trata-se de um trabalho pesado, que remete aos primórdios do grupo, com um black metal frio, obscuro, bem executado e muito bem produzido. As faixas não são muito longas, o que acaba sendo um ponto positivo, pois tornam as músicas mais agressivas e diretas.
Após a intro que dá nome ao álbum, “Elävän Kuoleman Tuhannet Kasvot” surge como uma excelente forma de iniciar o disco. É uma faixa direta e agressiva, apresentando todas as características que marcaram a identidade da banda ao longo dos anos.
Em “Elysium”, aparecem elementos mais atmosféricos e obscuros, com camadas de efeitos e climas densos. Os riffs variam entre passagens ríspidas e velozes e momentos mais melódicos, revelando outra faceta igualmente impressionante da banda.
“Vihan Ruoska” chega chutando a porta. Blast beats, muita agressividade e mudanças para momentos mais cadenciados se combinam com bases matadoras e um refrão marcante. Na minha opinião, tem tudo para se tornar uma das grandes músicas da carreira da banda.
“Haava” também não desacelera. Mantém o ritmo acelerado típico do grupo, mas traz inserções bastante interessantes que, em alguns momentos, me remeteram ao Master’s Hammer de sua fase mais antiga. É uma música um pouco mais longa que as demais, mas também extremamente criativa e variada, exibindo riffs marcantes, ótimas bases e vocais doentios.
“Rottien Valtakunta” continua sem dar qualquer trégua. É uma excelente composição, com riffs rápidos e cortantes e algumas passagens que lembram Emperor. Curta e direta, cumpre perfeitamente sua função.
A faixa “Saatana, Olen Miekkasi” é mais um ataque frontal, direto e agressivo, trazendo também um refrão que certamente funcionará muito bem ao vivo.
“Yö Katoaa Taakse Kuolevan Kuun” é uma faixa pesada e objetiva, sem muitas concessões. Também é a música mais longa do álbum.
“Juuret” apresenta algumas passagens que remetem ao Darkthrone mais antigo e carrega muito da essência do black metal nórdico dos anos 1990. Para mim, é a melhor música do disco.
“Olen Unohtanut Isäni Kasvot” é uma composição mais curta, mas que incorpora elementos bastante distintos das demais. As linhas instrumentais, a bateria e a abordagem vocal conferem uma identidade própria à faixa.
Encerrando o álbum, “Noitalasia” também traz algumas características diferentes. Não é tão direta quanto as anteriores e utiliza dedilhados e passagens mais atmosféricas para construir um clima denso e obscuro, ideal para fechar o trabalho.
Certamente estamos diante de um álbum de extrema qualidade. Embora aposte nos elementos que a banda sempre apresentou ao longo de sua trajetória e mantenha forte ligação com a tradição do black metal nórdico, o disco também incorpora detalhes e nuances que o tornam interessante, variado, repleto de atmosferas e extremamente sombrio.
A impressão final é excelente. Não se trata apenas de mais um lançamento na discografia da banda, mas de um grande álbum, digno de figurar entre seus melhores trabalhos e uma demonstração clara de que ainda há muito a ser explorado dentro de sua proposta musical.

The band’s 13th album comes as a very pleasant surprise. It is a heavy and powerful work that harkens back to the group’s early days, delivering a cold, dark, well-executed, and exceptionally well-produced brand of black metal. The tracks are not particularly long, which ultimately works in the album’s favor, making the songs more aggressive and direct.
Following the intro that gives the album its title, “Elävän Kuoleman Tuhannet Kasvot” emerges as an excellent way to kick off the record. It is a direct and aggressive track that showcases all the characteristics that have defined the band’s identity throughout the years.
On “Elysium”, more atmospheric and darker elements come into play, with layers of effects and dense moods. The riffs alternate between harsh, fast passages and more melodic moments, revealing another equally impressive side of the band.
“Vihan Ruoska” kicks the door down. Blast beats, relentless aggression, and shifts into more mid-paced sections are combined with killer guitar work and a memorable chorus. In my opinion, it has everything it takes to become one of the standout songs in the band’s catalog.
“Haava” does not slow things down either. It maintains the group’s trademark fast pace while introducing some particularly interesting elements that, at times, reminded me of the early days of Master’s Hammer. It is a slightly longer track than most of the others, but also one of the most creative and dynamic, featuring memorable riffs, excellent guitar work, and deranged vocals.
“Rottien Valtakunta” continues without offering any respite. It is an excellent composition built around sharp, fast riffs and passages that occasionally evoke Emperor. Short and direct, it accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do.
“Saatana, Olen Miekkasi” is another straightforward and aggressive assault, featuring a chorus that will undoubtedly work extremely well in a live setting.
“Yö Katoaa Taakse Kuolevan Kuun” is a heavy and focused track that makes few concessions. It is also the longest song on the album.
“Juuret” contains passages that recall the early days of Darkthrone and carries much of the essence of 1990s Nordic black metal. For me, it is the best song on the record.
“Olen Unohtanut Isäni Kasvot” is a shorter composition, yet one that incorporates several elements distinct from the rest of the album. The instrumental lines, drumming, and vocal approach give the song its own unique identity.
Closing the album, “Noitalasia” also introduces a few different characteristics. It is not as direct as the preceding tracks and uses fingerpicked passages and atmospheric sections to create a dense and dark mood, making it the perfect conclusion to the record.
There is no doubt that this is an album of exceptional quality. While it relies on the elements that the band has consistently employed throughout its career and remains firmly connected to the traditions of Nordic black metal, it also incorporates details and nuances that make it engaging, varied, rich in atmosphere, and extremely dark.
The final impression is overwhelmingly positive. This is not merely another release in the band’s discography, but rather a truly great album, worthy of standing among its finest works and clear proof that there is still plenty of room for exploration within its musical vision.
