GÓRGONA – The Plague Remnants – Live EP (2022)

Banda formada no oeste paranaense, mais precisamente na cidade de Cascavel. A cena nesta cidade do interior é muito movimentada e desde o início dos anos 80, do século passado sempre cedeu grandes bandas ao submundo nacional como o grande Kreditor, Hammerdown e o Lugubrius Hynm nos anos 80 e 90, e atualmente bandas como Headthrashers, Crepúsculo Dos Ídolos e muitas outras continuam a tradição do Metal maldito cascavelense. Entre eles, essa grande banda de Heavy Metal Górgona. Banda formada em 2018, projeto de Fernando Guedes (Headthrashers) vocal  & guitarras e também por Ricardo B. Lima, no baixo, (Headthrashers) Fernando Silva na bateria e Bruno Maximo, guitarra. A banda já lançou algumas demo tapes e em breve estará lançando oficialmente um full álbum já gravado e dando os retoques finais.

Esse “ep live” foi gravado ao vivo no “Adega Nostravamos” bar importante da cena local por onde já passaram grandes bandas do submundo brasileiro e mundial como: Flagelador, Amen Corner, Violator e as gringas: Nocturno, Evil Envaders, Verthebral e muitas outras.

O set list da maldita Medusa nesta noite de dezembro foi executado por uma intro e mais sete faixas entre músicas autorais e covers Com uma introdução tirada da clássica película do mestre Zé do caixão “À meia-noite Levarei Sua Alma”, que combina com a temática das letras da banda, e o clima obscuro de seu Heavy Metal, com influências de bandas como: Picture, Saxon, Witchfinder General, Tygers Of Pan Tang, entre outros clássicos da NWOBHM.

E os caras, executaram as primeiras músicas “Josefel” e “Abracadabra”, um puro e energético Heavy Metal com boas bases e solos de guitarras, com bastante melodias e uma bateria simples e sem muitas firulas. Básica e eficiente, com um vocal simples, mas muito bom que transmite sentimentos e devoção ao Metal tradicional! Quando cito que o som é simples não quer dizer que os músicos são ruins ou músicas ruins, longe disso, é que a pegada Metal que eles executam não precisa ou não combina com o virtuosismo exagerado, aqui é tudo muito simples e movido pela paixão e amor ao Heavy Metal!

A primeira cover da noite “Heavy Metal Ears” do Picture e que pelos gritos dos metalheads presentes foi uma boa escolha. Segue com “Under The Spell”, “Death Picture” e “Red Mask Of Death”. Para quem gosta daquele Heavy Metal direto, agressivo e simples do final dos anos 70 e início dos 80 e cultua o poder do Metal Górgona, é um prato cheio!

“Metal On Metal” do Anvil e mais uma autoral “Tell Tale Heart”, uma faixa com uma pegada mais speed metal e com guitarras rápidas e belas melodias. Era a vez de homenagear os “Metal Gods” ingleses e rolar “Grinder” vocês sabem de quem é, né!? Fechando a apresentação deles na Adega Nostravamos. E de bônus para esse ep adicionaram a faixa “Thy Body Will Burn”, gravado em estúdio, é um Heavy Metal mais cadenciado. Gostaria de estar presente neste show pelo que ouvi neste ep e pelo barulho dos insanos metalheads foi uma noite de puro Heavy Metal sem modismo e sem frescura! Aguardamos ansiosos pelo Full Length desses cascavelenses que com certeza enche de orgulho a velha guarda do Metal da região oeste do Paraná.

A band formed in the west of Paraná, more precisely in the city of Cascavel. The scene in this inland city is very busy and since the early 80s of the last century has always given great bands to the national underworld such as the great Kreditor, Hammerdown and Lugubrius Hynm in the 80s and 90s, and currently bands like Headthrashers, Crepúsculo Dos Ídolos and many others continue the tradition of cursed metal from Cascavel. Among them is the great heavy metal band Górgona. The band was formed in 2018 as a project by Fernando Guedes (Headthrashers) on vocals and guitars and Ricardo B. Lima on bass, (Headthrashers) Fernando Silva on drums and Bruno Maximo on guitar. The band has already released some demo tapes and will soon be officially releasing a full album that has already been recorded and is putting the finishing touches to it.

This “ep live” was recorded live at the “Adega Nostravamos”, an important bar in the local scene where great bands from the Brazilian and world underworld have played, such as: Flagelador, Amen Corner, Violator and the gringas: Nocturno, Evil Envaders, Verthebral and many others.

Medusa’s set list on this December evening consisted of an intro and seven other tracks, including songs by the band and covers. The intro was taken from the classic Zé do Caixão film “At Midnight I’ll Take Your Soul”, which matches the theme of the band’s lyrics and the dark atmosphere of their heavy metal, with influences from bands such as Picture, Saxon, Witchfinder General, Tygers Of Pan Tang, among other NWOBHM classics.

And the guys performed the first songs “Josefel” and “Abracadabra”, pure, energetic heavy metal with good guitar bases and solos, plenty of melodies and simple drums without too much fuss. Basic and efficient, with a simple but very good vocal that conveys feelings and devotion to traditional metal! When I say that the sound is simple, it doesn’t mean that the musicians are bad or that the music is bad, far from it, it’s just that the Metal style they play doesn’t need or match exaggerated virtuosity, everything here is very simple and driven by passion and love for Heavy Metal!

The first cover of the night was Picture’s “Heavy Metal Ears”, which, according to the shouts of the metalheads present, was a good choice. It was followed by “Under The Spell”, “Death Picture” and “Red Mask Of Death”. For those who like the direct, aggressive and simple Heavy Metal of the late 70s and early 80s and who worship the power of Gorgon Metal, it’s a real treat!

“Metal On Metal” by Anvil and another of their own “Tell Tale Heart”, a track with a more speed metal feel, fast guitars and beautiful melodies. It was time to pay homage to the English “Metal Gods” with “Grinder” – you know whose it is, right? Closing their performance at Adega Nostravamos. And as a bonus for this ep they added the track “Thy Body Will Burn”, recorded in the studio, it’s more of a heavy metal song. I wish I could have been there for this gig, from what I heard on this ep and from the noise of the insane metalheads, it was a night of pure heavy metal with no fads and no frills! We’re looking forward to the Full Length from these guys from Cascavel, who are sure to make the old guard of metal from the western region of Paraná proud.
