STENCHED – Purulence Gushing from the Coffin (CD 2024)

México maldito México… Dessas terras escaldantes em que o sangue escorre dos degraus das antigas pirâmides e enxarca o solo de seus antigos deuses não me espanta ver o surgimento de um nome como o STENCHED. Ao “batizar” a banda com esse nome, os portais da imundície foram abertos e deles um mar de chrorume musical foi expelido em meio ao fedor nauseabundo de um álbum magnífico.

Não procuro beleza em álbuns de death metal. Se quiser isso iria procurar em outros lugares. O que me faz realmente apreciar um novo álbum desse estilo é a capacidade que uma banda tem de criar desconforto e brutalidade, cheia focada na velocidade alucinante ou no peso descomunal, que molda riffs cheios de uma atmosfera úmida e sufocante.

O primeiro álbum do STENCHED faz isso com maestria. Não espera nada cheio de melodias agradáveis. “Purulence Gushing from the Coffin” foi criado para te arrancar do sofá e te jogar em um poço de dejetos pútridos e rispidez musical. A capa desse trabalho, por si só, já me chamaria a atenção e me deixaria interessado em conhecer o trabalho aqui apresentado. É feia, old school, nada de cores vibrantes e com uma apresentação simples e direta. Isso é arte underground em sua glória.

Mas é no som que o STENCHED se destaca. Não vou comentar música por música pois não acho necessário um tentativa de explicar cada composição. Não procure uma variedade estilística muito grande. É tudo em torno do death metal pegajoso, cheio de brutalidade, mas de bases de guitarra que soam como se tivessem uma tonelada e procurassem esmagar seu corpo.

O único ponto negativo que encontro na audição desse álbum é que demorei demais para ouvir um trabalho que entraria facilmente na minha lista de melhores do ano de 2024. Esse é exatamente o tipo de som que eu adoro e que ouviria por dias.

Títulos singelos como “Mucus, Phlegm and Bile”, “Suppurating Cranial Cavity’ ou “Effusion of Foul Smelling Fluids” fornecem as pistas mais do que necessárias para que você se localize em termos de estilo e influências musicais que o STENCHED tem. Mas preciso citar “Death Maniacal Obsession” como a cereza do bolo, ou melhor, como a verruga purulenta que o álbum traz em sua face. Você vai sentir o peso e a putrefação emanadas dessa composição. Melhor composição do álbum sem dúvida alguma.

Algo totalmente indicado para fãs de coisas fofas e agradáveis como Incantation, General Surgery, old Carcass, Impetigo, Convulse… Não esqueça de separar sacos para cadáveres e produtos de limpeza para deixar o ambiente da sua casa livres da imundície derramada pela audição desse álbum.

Damned Mexico… From these scorching lands where blood drips from the steps of ancient pyramids and soaks the soil of their ancient gods, I am not surprised to see the emergence of a name like STENCHED. By “baptizing” the band with this name, the gates of filth were opened and from them a sea of musical chrorume was expelled amid the nauseating stench of a magnificent album.

I don’t look for beauty in death metal albums. If I wanted that, I would look elsewhere. What really makes me appreciate a new album of this style is a band’s ability to create discomfort and brutality, focused on breakneck speed or enormous weight, which shapes riffs full of a damp and suffocating atmosphere.

STENCHED‘s first album does this masterfully. Don’t expect anything full of pleasant melodies. “Purulence Gushing from the Coffin” was created to pull you off the couch and throw you into a pit of putrid waste and musical harshness. The cover of this work alone would catch my attention and make me interested in getting to know the work presented here. It’s ugly, old school, no vibrant colors, and with a simple and straightforward presentation. This is underground art in its glory.

But it’s in the sound that STENCHED stands out. I’m not going to comment on each song individually because I don’t think it’s necessary to try to explain each composition. Don’t look for a lot of stylistic variety. It’s all about sticky death metal, full of brutality, but with guitar riffs that sound like they weigh a ton and are trying to crush your body.

The only negative point I find in listening to this album is that it took me too long to hear a work that would easily make my list of the best of 2024. This is exactly the kind of sound I love and would listen to for days.

Simple titles like “Mucus, Phlegm and Bile”, “Suppurating Cranial Cavity”, or “Effusion of Foul Smelling Fluids” provide more than enough clues for you to get a sense of STENCHED‘s style and musical influences. But I have to mention “Death Maniacal Obsession” as the icing on the cake, or rather, as the purulent wart that the album bears on its face. You will feel the weight and putrefaction emanating from this composition. Without a doubt, it is the best composition on the album.

Something totally recommended for fans of cute and pleasant things like Incantation, General Surgery, old Carcass, Impetigo, Convulse… Don’t forget to set aside body bags and cleaning products to rid your home of the filth spilled by listening to this album.
