Fui dormir dia 13/11, bem cedo e estava muito cansado e ansioso pelo despertar da nova aurora. Mas a noite foi longa. Acordei várias vezes durante a madrugada. Finalmente, às seis horas da manhã acordei e fui até a sacada e uma torrencial chuva e mesmo assim não me desanimei.
Afinal era véspera de feriado e teríamos um dia puxado e fechando a noite com um grande show. Tomei um café e peguei a estrada. Afinal, meu dia seria passar algumas horas em rodoviárias e dentro de ônibus. Não tenho carro ou moto por escolha de vida! De Bombinhas (SC) até Porto Belo, (SC) e de lá até Itapema, (SC) e finalmente para Curitiba. (PR) Cheguei em Curitiba por volta das 17 horas sob um céu nublado. Fui dar uma volta no Largo da Ordem, ponto de encontro dos metalheads antes dos shows na capital paranaense e também encontrar minha querida amiga Amanda Rafaela e comermos algo e partir para a Ópera de Arame.
Para minha surpresa encontrei velhos amigos de Cascavel (PR) que vieram de excursão para esse grandioso show. Entre eles: Renato Pacheco (Kreditor) e Vinícius JR Schenato do Headthrashers & Voivödka. Grata surpresa! Ansiedade está há mil, afinal não é todo dia que podemos ver e assistir um grande concerto de Heavy Metal com uma lenda inglesa do Metal, né?
Chegamos na Ópera de Arame e já nos deparamos com um público grande e excelente. Um lugar muito bonito e de fácil acesso. Mais uma vez encontramos vários amigos, de vários lugares do Estado do Paraná e para variar muitos amigos de Santa Catarina, também estavam presentes.
Tudo muito fácil e organizado para entrar no recinto. Menos de cinco minutos já estávamos dentro da Ópera e que lugar lindo. É um teatro muito bonito, com uma acústica perfeita, com cadeiras para o público sentar e pensei comigo: isso não vai dar certo? Show de Heavy Metal sentados em cadeiras de couro, não sei não. Mas o público se comportou – se bem! Aliás, me surpreendeu o público. Formado por várias gerações de Metalheads e claro muitos coletes jeans com patches e tênis branco
Quando entramos “no teatro” a banda de abertura já estava no palco detonando seu set, que agradou bastante o público presente e inclusive a nós.
O grupo americano Madzilla LV está abrindo os shows dos ingleses e divulgando o seu primeiro trabalho completo “Asphyxiating Cries” de 2021. A banda foi formada em 2016 e antes desse trabalho lançaram um EP chamado “Vengeance” de 2019. David Cabezas vocal & Guitarras, Daniel Gortaire Bass & baching vocals, Luis Zevallos bateria e Dane Haws guitarras, fizeram um bom show de abertura e foram bem recepcionados pelo público presente. Como disse, quando chegamos eles já estavam tocando e as músicas que ouvíamos com bastante peso e melodias cativantes, ótimas guitarras e um vocalista bem comunicativo. O som dos americanos de Las Vegas é descrito como um Thrash Metal melódico. Algo entre Megadeth, Metallica, Overkill, Iron Maiden e Helloween, com essas influências encontram – se elementos
mais trabalhados, com ótimos solos de guitarras, bateria rápidas, pedais duplos. Vou ficar devendo o setlist não consegui ter acesso a eles. Mas vale a pena correr atrás e conhecer um pouco melhor essa banda.
Depois do show do Madzilla LV entraram os roadies no palco e muito rápido montaram tudo para os ingleses e a ansiedade aumentava.
O público começou a cantar“ olê, olê, Saxon, Saxon…
E os ingleses, depois do cancelamento do show no Monsters Of Rock Brasil, no primeiro semestre de 2023, voltam ao país para o primeiro show em solo brasileiro da “Seize The Day World Tour”, e sem o lendário guitarrista Paul Quinn, que decidiu se aposentar. Em seu lugar, outra lenda, Brian Tatler, guitarrista do Diamond Head, outro expoente do movimento “NWOBHM” que espalhou o “aço inglês” pelo mundo no final dos anos 70 e início dos 80.
E finalmente o Saxon entra no palco e o público fica alucinado com esses “senhores do metal” e a primeira música do set é “Carpien Diem”(Seize The Day) e o público canta os refrões junto com o mestre Biff Byford. (voz) Música que abre o último disco deles e que leva o nome desse trabalho com solos maravilhosos de guitarras e a música é muito boa, assim como esse grande trabalho dos ingleses.
A primeira música clássica da noite é “Motorcycle Man” e o lugar vem abaixo e ouvir essa música ao vivo é lindo! A banda ao vivo é perfeita!
A terceira música era também uma música do novo disco “Carpe Diem” e dá-lhe “Age of Steam”. Os insanos Metalheads prestaram bastante atenção na performance da banda e na música, que inicia com uns riffs bem melódicos e bateria comendo e Biff dando uma aula de técnica e simpatia. E seguindo essa aula de Heavy Metal com “Strong Arm Of Law” e “Sacrifice”. A banda simplesmente não deixa os fãs respirarem e todos muito felizes batendo cabeça e cantando os refrões.
Biff Byford dá duas opções para o público escolher uma. E as opções eram entre eles tocarem: “Crusader” ou “Ride Like The Wind”. E numa disputa acirrada ganhou “Crusader” e os ingleses mandaram esse clássico do Heavy Metal e o público enlouqueceu batendo cabeça e cantando junto. Coisa linda de se ver. Biff tem o público nas mãos e como esse senhor é carismático, simpático e um lorde no palco! Outra figura que não pára no palco, corre por todo lado, bate cabeça, faz caretas e chama o público, para bater cabeça também é o grande baixista Nibbs Carter, o cara é o mais “digamos jovem” da banda e com um fôlego em cima do palco que um garoto mais jovem não teria a mesma pegada. E Biff que de bobo não tem nada, e viu que tinha muita gente que queria ouvir o clássico “Ride Like The Wind” emendou logo em seguida fazendo alegria de todos!
Brian Tatler, o lendário guitarrista do Diamond Head que substitui o mestre Paul Quinn, no início do show ele estava mais tranquilo no seu canto e aos poucos foi se soltando e como toca esse senhor. Eu fechava os meus olhos e pensava comigo mesmo: cara, que momento incrível eu estou vendo as lendas do Saxon e de bônus o Tatler, o homem do Diamond Head. Doug Scarratt (guitarra) também é outro cara que está ali executando seus instrumentos com muita gana e técnica.
Estamos caminhando para o final do show e uma trinca poderosa do mais puro aço inglês com “Dallas 1pm”, “Denin And Leather” e “Wheels Of Steel” e aí não teve como controlar a emoção de ouvir e ver na sua frente esses senhores mostrarem como se faz e forja clássicos eternos do Heavy Metal que ficaram para sempre em nossos corações. Guitarras perfeitas! Aliás, a dupla Tatler e Scarratt, estavam muito bem entrosados com riffs poderosos, técnica, velocidades e melodias, e solos que enchem nossos corações de alegria. E nosso querido Nigel Glockler é um monstro das baquetas e atrás do kit de sua bateria ele mostrou toda sua técnica impecável com muitas viradas e pedais duplos e mostrando que apesar da sua idade que está em forma e tocará por muito tempo bateria para nós admiradores de seu trabalho.
A banda deixa o palco e o público começa cantar: olê, olê, Saxon, Saxon (…) e eles voltam para o bis e manda os clássicos: “747(Strangers In The Nigth)” e “Princess Of The Night” e foi um final apoteótico e fazendo alegria de todos os presentes na Ópera de Arame. Só tenho que dizer uma coisa: O Saxon merece todo o respeito que tem e os caras estão aí há quase cinco décadas tocando Heavy Metal pelo mundo afora e o melhor de tudo: com vigor, com respeito ao seu público! A banda em cima do palco comunica – se o tempo todo com o público, brincando e dando muitas gargalhadas, estão felizes de estar ali no palco fazendo o que sabem de melhor: Heavy Metal! E nós somos privilegiados de poder ver isso ao vivo e levar para sempre em nossas memórias e corações por termos visto uma aula do mais puro metal inglês.

I went to sleep on 11/13, very early and I was very tired and anxious for the new dawn to wake up. But the night was long. I woke up several times during the night. Finally, at six o’clock in the morning I woke up and went to the balcony and it was pouring rain and I still didn’t get discouraged
After all, it was the day before a holiday and we would have a busy day and end the night with a great show. I had a coffee and hit the road. After all, my day would be spending a few hours at bus stations and on buses. I don’t have a car or motorcycle by choice! From Bombinhas (SC) to Porto Belo, (SC) and from there to Itapema, (SC) and finally to Curitiba. (PR) I arrived in Curitiba around 5 pm under a cloudy sky. I went for a walk around Largo da Ordem, a meeting point for Metalheads before shows in the capital of Paraná and also met my dear friend Amanda Rafaela and had a bite to eat and headed to Ópera de Arame
To my surprise I met old friends from Cascavel (PR) who came on a tour for this great show. Among them: Renato Pacheco (Kreditor) and Vinícius JR Schenato from Headthrashers & Voivödka. Nice surprise! There’s been a lot of anxiety, after all, it’s not every day that we get to see and watch a great Heavy Metal concert with an English Metal legend, right?
We arrived at Ópera de Arame and were met with a large and excellent audience. A very beautiful and easily accessible place. Once again we met several friends, from various parts of the State of Paraná and, for a change, many friends from Santa Catarina were also present.
Everything was very easy and organized to enter the venue. Less than five minutes we were already inside the Opera and what a beautiful place. It’s a very beautiful theater, with perfect acoustics, with chairs for the audience to sit and I thought to myself: isn’t this going to work? Heavy Metal show sitting on leather chairs, I don’t know. But the audience behaved – well! In fact, the audience surprised me. Formed by several generations of Metalheads and of course many denim vests with patches and white sneakers
When we entered “the theater” the opening band was already on stage performing their set, which really pleased the audience and even us.
The American group Madzilla LV is opening the English shows and promoting their first full-length work “Asphyxiating Cries” from 2021. The band was formed in 2016 and before this work they released an EP called “Vengeance” from 2019. David Cabezas vocals & Guitars , Daniel Gortaire Bass & Baching vocals, Luis Zevallos drums and Dane Haws guitars, performed a good opening show and were well received by the public present. As I said, when we arrived they were already playing and the songs we heard had a lot of weight and catchy melodies, great guitars and a very communicative vocalist. The sound of the Americans from Las Vegas is described as melodic Thrash Metal. Something between Megadeth, Metallica, Overkill, Iron Maiden and Helloween, with these influences there are elements
more worked, with great guitar solos, fast drums, double pedals. I’m going to owe the setlist, I couldn’t access them. But it’s worth going back and getting to know this band a little better.
After the Madzilla LV show, the roadies came on stage and very quickly set up everything for the English and the anxiety increased.
The audience started singing “olê, olê, Saxon, Saxon…
And the English, after the cancellation of the show at Monsters Of Rock Brasil, in the first half of 2023, return to the country for the first show on Brazilian soil of the “Seize The Day World Tour”, and without the legendary guitarist Paul Quinn, who decided to leave retire. In his place, another legend, Brian Tatler, guitarist for Diamond Head, another exponent of the “NWOBHM” movement that spread “English steel” around the world in the late 70s and early 80s.
And finally Saxon enters the stage and the audience is amazed by these “gents of metal” and the first song of the set is “Carpien Diem” (Seize The Day) and the audience sings the choruses along with the master Biff Byford. (voice) Song that opens their latest album and which bears the name of this work with wonderful guitar solos and the music is very good, just like this great work by the English.
The first classic song of the night is “Motorcycle Man” and the place comes crashing down and hearing this song live is beautiful! The live band is perfect!
The third song was also a song from the new album “Carpe Diem” and gives it “Age of Steam”. The insane Metalheads paid a lot of attention to the band’s performance and the music, which starts with some very melodic riffs and drums eating and Biff giving a lesson in technique and friendliness. And following this Heavy Metal class with “Strong Arm Of Law and Sacrifice”. The band simply doesn’t let the fans breathe and everyone is very happy headbanging and singing the choruses.
Biff Byford gives two options for the audience to choose one. And the options were between them playing: Crusader or Ride Like The Wind”. And in a fierce dispute Crusader won and the English sent this Heavy Metal classic and the audience went crazy headbanging and singing along. Beautiful thing to see. Biff has the audience in his hands and how charismatic, friendly and a lord he is on stage! Another figure who doesn’t stop on stage, runs all over the place, bangs his head, makes faces and calls out to the audience, to bang his head is also the great bassist Nibbs Carter, the guy is the most “let’s say young” in the band and with a lot of breath in him. on stage that a younger boy wouldn’t have the same grip. And Biff, who is nothing like a fool, and saw that there were a lot of people who wanted to hear the classic “Ride Like The Wind”, amended it immediately afterwards, making everyone happy.
Brian Tatler, the legendary Diamond Head guitarist who replaces the master Paul Quinn, at the beginning of the show he was calmer in his singing and little by little he started to loosen up and like this gentleman plays. I closed my eyes and thought to myself: man, what an incredible moment I have seeing the legends of Saxon and as a bonus Tatler, the man from Diamond Head. Doug Scarratt (guitar) is also another guy who is there playing his instruments with great enthusiasm and technique.
We are heading towards the end of the show and a powerful trio of the purest English steel with “Dallas 1pm, Denin And Leather and Wheels Of Steel” and then there was no way to control the emotion of hearing and seeing in front of you these gentlemen show how it’s done and forges eternal Heavy Metal classics that remain forever in our hearts. Perfect guitars! In fact, the duo Tatler and Scarratt were very well blended with powerful riffs, technique, speeds and melodies, and solos that fill our hearts with joy. And our dear Nigel Glockler is a drumstick monster and behind his drum kit he showed all his impeccable technique with many fills and double pedals and showing that despite his age he is in shape and will play the drums for a long time for us admirers of his work.
The band leaves the stage and the audience starts singing: olê, olê, Saxon, Saxon (…) and they come back for the encore and send out the classics: “747(Strangers In The Nigth) and Princess Of The Nigth” and it was a finale apotheotic and bringing joy to everyone present at the Ópera de Arame. I just have to say one thing: Saxon deserves all the respect he has and the guys have been there for almost five decades playing Heavy Metal around the world and best of all: with vigor, with respect for their audience! The band on stage communicates with the audience all the time, joking and laughing, they are happy to be there on stage doing what they do best: Heavy Metal! And we are privileged to be able to see this live and carry it forever in our memories and hearts for having seen a class of the purest English metal.
