OSSUARY – Abhorrent Worship (Adv. CD 2025)

Após uma década de atividade subterrâneas na cena do metal pútrido da morte, os americanos do OSSUARY finalmente chegam ao seu primeiro álbum de estúdio e posso dizer que a demora valeu a pena. “Abhorrent Worship” é um álbum que não precisa durar uma eternidade para mostrar a que veio.

Em pouco mais de 37 minutos esses caras dão o seu recado, em alto e bom tom. A faixa que é responsável por abrir o álbum é “Volitional Entropy”, um death metal sujo, meio tempo e com vocais que soam como uma lixa. Tudo é performado de forma a destacar o peso das músicas, não a sua velocidade.

“Inborn Scourge Unbound” segue a mesma estrada e adiciona riffs e arranjos de guitarra cheios de um feeling nauseabundo. Me traz à mente muito do death metal underground dos anos 90. Tudo soa ríspido e isso é o ponto forte da banda nesse primeiro álbum de estúdio. Há pura maldade emanando dos riffs e a maneira como eles se desenvolvem e se conectam é matadora. Umas das melhores faixas do álbum é exatamente a próxima. “Forsaken Offerings (To the Doomed Spirit)” é uma música sufocante e desesperadora. O trabalho executado por Izzi Plunkett na guitarra e como vocalista é muito bom. O primeiro momento mais agressivo vem e se encaixa perfeitamente no que a banda oferece nesse contexto.

O nível sobe mais um pouco com a impiedosa “Instinctual Prostration”. A música traz o odor fétido de bandas como o Incantation em seus primórdios. A imaginação trabalho imaginando como deve soar pesada ao vivo. Mais cadenciada é “The Undrownable Howl of Evil” tem mais stamina e velocidade. A bateria nesses momentos se comporta com um bate-estaca.

A mais longa faixa do álbum é “Barren Lamentation” e tem a tarefa de fechar o álbum. Aqui o death doom comanda e encerra os trabalhos com pesado e feeling. Aliás, todo o álbum. Algo que me chamou também a atenção foi a capa do álbum. Achei bastante original e foge do usual. “Abhorrent Worship” é um excelente álbum de estreia e mostra que a banda evoluiu em sua própria musicalidade.

After a decade of underground activity in the putrid death metal scene, the Americans of OSSUARY have finally come up with their first studio album and I can say that the delay was worth it. “Abhorrent Worship” is an album that doesn’t need to last forever to show what it’s come for.

In just over 37 minutes, these guys make their point loud and clear. The track that opens the album is “Volitional Entropy”, a dirty, half-time death metal with vocals that sound like sandpaper. Everything is performed in such a way as to emphasize the weight of the songs, not their speed.

“Inborn Scourge Unbound” follows the same road and adds riffs and guitar arrangements full of a nauseating feeling. It brings to mind a lot of underground death metal from the 90s. Everything sounds harsh and that’s the band’s strong point on this first studio album. There’s pure evil emanating from the riffs and the way they develop and connect is killer. One of the best tracks on the album is exactly the next one. “Forsaken Offerings (To the Doomed Spirit)” is a suffocating and desperate song. Izzi Plunkett’s guitar and vocal work is very good. The first more aggressive moment comes and fits perfectly with what the band offers in this context.

The bar is raised a little higher with the merciless “Instinctual Prostration”. The song carries the stench of bands like Incantation in their early days. The imagination works imagining how heavy it must sound live. “The Undrownable Howl of Evil” has more stamina and speed. The drums at these moments behave like a pile driver.

The longest track on the album is “Barren Lamentation” and it has the task of closing the album. Here death doom takes over and closes the proceedings with heaviness and feeling. In fact, the whole album. Something that also caught my eye was the album cover. I found it quite original and out of the ordinary. “Abhorrent Worship” is an excellent debut album and shows that the band has evolved in its own musicality.
