A escola de metal extremo da Oceania é algo que nunca se permite aliviar a podridão de sua essência. Quando escutamos bandas vindas desse lado do mundo sempre nos deparamos com uma sonoridade que desafia a delicadeza e a beleza do mundo.

Uma banda como o IFRIT não adora a beleza. Tudo é caos, distorção, peso descomunal e um intrincado labirinto de brutalidade e crueza.

“Haunting Charnel Grounds” é o novo EP desse grupo oriundo da Nova Zelândia e esqueça as paisagens bucólicas do Senhor dos Anéis. Tudo aqui é sombrio e pútrido, tal como nos desertos áridos de Mordor. A banda investe em um death metal que soa como um soco. Musicalmente falando a banda se insere em um inferno flamejante que já gerou grupos como Morbid Angel, Immolation, Nox, Centurian, entre outras atrocidades sonoras.

Após uma longa Intro, o mundo desmorona com a brutal “Sites Unhallowed” com riffs rápidos, sujos e intrincados. Você vai se sentir absolutamente desconfortável com essas “melodias” que são vomitadas na sua face. Uma música que define um padrão a ser seguido e um perfeito cartão de visitas para os ouvintes que nunca ouviram a banda. Há momentos em que o caos se faz tão evidente que qualquer um que não aprecie metal extremo irá implorar para que a dor cesse.

“Salts of Penitence” vem na sequência e flerta mais abertamente com o peso, bases de guitarra totalmente tortas, bateria que não aceita ser um mero coadjuvante e riffs que são pura maldade. A melhor composição desse lançamento, com toda a certeza. Quando a brutalidade se inicia tudo mais é lançado aos ares. Aqui os solos são realmente muito bons e ríspidos. Pura death metal oculto.

A desconstrução da beleza tem continuidade com a apavorante “Howling Catacomb”. Os dois mentores desse ritual de brutalidade realmente entendem do negócio e entregam tudo com absoluta maestria e ódio. A música mantém a qualidade das anteriores e se aprofunda na complexidade em diversos níveis. Os riffs aqui são matadores, nada menos que matadores.

A última gota de sangue vem com uma versão que a banda faz para a faixa “Watain”, do lendário VON. Uma coisa eu vou ter que afirmar, com a velocidade de execução e os riffs e a sonoridade dessa música, o resultado final parece saído dos primórdios do Sarcófago. Há aqui algo da selvageria do metal extremo sul-americano. Versão realmente assassina.

Um trabalho como esse não poderia deixar de contar com uma arte de capa que refletisse toda a maldade aqui apresentada. Simples e profana. O IFRIT realmente me surpreendeu.

The Oceania school of extreme metal is something that never allows itself to let go of the rottenness of its essence. When we listen to bands from this side of the world, we are always faced with a sound that challenges the delicacy and beauty of the world.

A band like IFRIT doesn’t love beauty. Everything is chaos, distortion, uncompromising heaviness and an intricate labyrinth of brutality and rawness.

“Haunting Charnel Grounds” is the new EP from this New Zealand group and forget the bucolic landscapes of Lord of the Rings. Everything here is dark and putrid, just like in the arid deserts of Mordor. The band invests in death metal that packs a punch. Musically speaking, the band is part of a blazing inferno that has spawned groups like Morbid Angel, Immolation, Nox, Centurian, among other sonic atrocities.

After a long intro, the world collapses with the brutal “Sites Unhallowed” with its fast, dirty and intricate riffs. You will feel absolutely uncomfortable with these “melodies” being thrown up in your face. A song that sets a standard to follow and a perfect calling card for listeners who have never heard the band. There are moments when the chaos is so evident that anyone who doesn’t appreciate extreme metal will beg for the pain to stop.

“Salts of Penitence” follows and flirts more openly with heaviness, totally crooked guitar bases, drums that won’t accept being a mere supporting player and riffs that are pure evil. The best composition on this release, for sure. When the brutality kicks in, everything else is blown out of the water. Here the solos are really good and harsh. Pure occult death metal.

The deconstruction of beauty continues with the terrifying “Howling Catacomb”. The two masterminds of this ritual of brutality really understand the business and deliver everything with absolute mastery and hatred. The song maintains the quality of its predecessors and delves into complexity on several levels. The riffs here are killer, nothing short of killer.

The last drop of blood comes with the band’s version of the track “Watain” by the legendary VON. One thing I have to say, with the speed of execution and the riffs and the sonority of this song, the end result seems straight out of the early days of Sarcophagus. There’s something of the savagery of South American extreme metal here. A really killer version.

A work like this couldn’t fail to have cover art that reflected all the evil presented here. Simple and profane. IFRIT really surprised me.
