Muita gente duvida que seja possível identificar um bom álbum pelos seus primeiros acordes… Eu já discordo dessa afirmação. Ao ouvir os primeiros momentos do debut álbum do DÉCRYPTAL eu já percebi que estava diante de um trabalho com um imenso feeling e grande qualidade na arte de despejar metal da morte mundo afora.

Esse quarteto canadense não está buscando alterar as leis do universo nesse álbum. Seu objetivo fica claro em cada nota aqui executada – e com perfeição – em torno de um old school death metal que não trilha caminhos brutais, mas apresenta sua essência em torno de uma sonoridade mais pesada, cheia de sentimentos obscuros, riffs carregados de maldade, vocais ríspidos e aquela atmosfera opressiva que apenas quem entende do negócio é capaz de produzir.

A banda já apresenta um diferencial em sua música que é o uso do francês em suas letras. Soa realmente interessante e não perde absolutamente nada em termos de impacto nas músicas. São oito composições que expõem uma banda que apesar de estar lançando apenas o seu primeiro trabalho de estúdio, já demonstra uma grande maturidade em sua criação. A primeira música tem o papel de ser a porta de entrada a um universo grotesco, onde o metal da morte reina incólume. É uma música com uma pegada mais rápida, mas nunca indo para a brutalidade extrema. Em vários momentos a banda me fez lembrar o Incantation, principalmente nas partes mais lentas.

Já “Ombre hantant les ombres” é uma música ainda mais cadenciadas, super pesada e com riffs matadores. As mudanças rítmicas trazem dinamismo à composição e não cansam quem está ouvindo o trabalho. Na sequências vem “Horde d´invertébrés”, cujo primeiro riff te engana, fazendo-o acreditar que tudo vai soar ainda mais lento. Mas é violência que se manifesta nessa faixa, uma das melhores do álbum. Os riffs são carregadíssimos de maldade, os vocais aqui escapam de cavernas profundas e tudo soa intenso e contundente. Gostei muito da complexidade aqui apresentada. Na mesma pegada vem “Dendrites” e “Flétrissement”. Duas músicas bastante diretas e violentas, mas sem esquecer os momentos mais atmosféricos e tétricos.

“D´autres corps” é uma composição que me fez perceber diferentes camadas nas linhas de guitarra, que soam mais técnicas aqui. Tem momentos que fogem do tradicional e outros que o abraçam com força. Nesses momentos não dá para resistir à vontade de bater a cabeça. O clima mais opressivo te faz lembrar o Immolation, mas sem a mesma complexidade estrutural.

O álbum finaliza com “Zisurru” e a faixa título “Simulacre”, ambas mantendo o álbum em um alto nível. A primeira tem excelentes momentos em que o peso é maior do que a velocidade, mesmo essa não ficando totalmente ausente. Já “Simulacre” começa cheia de contratempos e mudanças de ritmo que se tornam mais uma grande composição.

A capa do álbum é ok, nada que vá chamar muita a atenção de quem procura um novo álbum para ouvir, mas espero que seja o suficiente para despertar a curiosidade, pois o que está além da arte aqui representada é uma banda que toca o seu death metal com raiva e gana. Um debut álbum realmente muito bom para todos aqueles que apreciam brutalidade aliada à maldade e frieza.

Many people doubt that it is possible to identify a good album by its first chords… I disagree with that statement. When listening to the first moments of DÉCRYPTAL‘s debut album, I realized that I was facing a work with immense feeling and great quality in the art of pouring death metal out into the world.

This Canadian quartet is not seeking to change the laws of the universe on this album. Their goal is clear in every note played here—and played to perfection—around old school death metal that doesn’t follow brutal paths, but presents its essence around a heavier sound, full of dark feelings, riffs loaded with evil, harsh vocals, and that oppressive atmosphere that only those who understand the business are capable of producing.

The band already presents a difference in their music, which is the use of French in their lyrics. It sounds really interesting and loses absolutely nothing in terms of impact on the songs. There are eight compositions that expose a band that, despite only releasing their first studio work, already shows great maturity in their creation. The first song serves as a gateway to a grotesque universe where death metal reigns supreme. It is a faster-paced song, but never veering into extreme brutality. At various points, the band reminded me of Incantation, especially in the slower parts.

“Ombre hantant les ombres” is an even more rhythmic song, super heavy and with killer riffs. The rhythmic changes bring dynamism to the composition and do not tire the listener. Next comes “Horde d’invertébrés”, whose first riff deceives you, making you believe that everything will sound even slower. But it is violence that manifests itself in this track, one of the best on the album. The riffs are loaded with evil, the vocals here escape from deep caves, and everything sounds intense and forceful. I really liked the complexity presented here. In the same vein come “Dendrites” and “Flétrissement.” Two very direct and violent songs, but without forgetting the more atmospheric and gloomy moments.

“D’autres corps” is a composition that made me notice different layers in the guitar lines, which sound more technical here. There are moments that stray from the traditional and others that embrace it with force. In those moments, it’s impossible to resist the urge to bang your head. The more oppressive atmosphere reminds you of Immolation, but without the same structural complexity.

The album ends with “Zisurru” and the title track “Simulacre,” both of which keep the album at a high level. The first has excellent moments where the weight is greater than the speed, even though the latter is not entirely absent. “Simulacre,” on the other hand, begins full of setbacks and rhythm changes that become yet another great composition.

The album cover is okay, nothing that will attract much attention from those looking for a new album to listen to, but I hope it’s enough to arouse curiosity, because what lies beyond the art represented here is a band that plays its death metal with anger and desire. A really good debut album for all those who appreciate brutality combined with evil and coldness.
