Saudações meu caro, Alessandro! Seja bem-vindo às páginas do The Old Coffin Spirit zine. A banda lá no início de 2014 começou como uma dupla você e o Eduardo e gravaram a primeira demo tape “First Demo 2015 (Previously Unreleased Rehearsal)”. Apesar de ser divulgado como uma “demo”, o trabalho contém 11 faixas, ou seja: é um álbum completo. Como foi a aceitação desse artefato no submundo e porque saiu como demo na época?
Alessandro: Muito obrigado pelo espaço no The Old Coffin Spirit Zine, é uma imensa satisfação estar figurando nesta publicação, estamos muito felizes em poder falar do Coldwinter para todos que querem conhecer a banda, nossa música, é também a nossa história…… Nossa primeira Demo 2015, foi onde tudo começou, Eu & Eduardo, nós somos músicos de estúdio e resolvemos testar nossos conhecimentos gravando algo diferente foi aí que gravamos 11 músicas e esse CD Demo foi lançado independente em poucas cópias, recebemos muitas críticas positivas de diversas revistas e fanzines e de vários países, essa Demo depois foi lapidada todas as músicas que entrou para o full-length CD com o Junior Paschoal na bateria…lançado em 2017 no bandcamp da banda
Ah, tá. Então, praticamente o Debut – álbum “Cold Light of the Horizon Dawning”(2017) são as mesmas faixas do Demo – CD, mas foi dada uma lápida melhor em estúdio. E antes de lançar o álbum cheio vocês lançaram um EP “The Horizon Dawning”. (2016) O que você pode nos dizer sobre ambos os trabalhos lançados? Resultado final foi o almejado pela banda?
Alessandro: Cold Light of the Horizon Dawning, são as 11 musicais da Demo só que nós demos uns ajustes nas músicas com uns arranjos novos, regravamos os Vocals….. e antes do full-length CD sair nós soltamos o The Horizon Dawning – 2016 (EP) com 3 músicas, 01.Before Dawn to Darkness, 02. Embracing My Funeral, 03.The Solitude of Eternity… esse Ep foi bem recebido pela mídia especializada, e nós ficamos muito bem satisfeitos, com esse trabalho…..que nos rendeu um relançamento do Ep na Argentina pelo selo Herrecords, que não só lançou o ep e também a Demo……
Olha que interessante foi lançado na Argentina também. Argentina tem uma cena, metal muito forte! Tenho vários contatos por lá, inclusive com a Daniela do selo Del Imaginários Discos. E antes de sair o Debut – CD vocês fecharam um contrato com o Leandro Fernandes da Eclipsy Lunarys Records, e como foi essa parceria?
Alessandro: Sim a Demo é o Ep Foi lançado pelo selo Herrecords, Underground label e distro de Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe, Argentina….. o Adrián Herrero, foi um cara muito legal conosco até hoje temos contatos com o Adrián….na Argentina tem uma cena muito grande e muito forte….nosso Full-length CD é distribuído aqui em São Paulo pela Voice Music, e também pelo selo Icarus Music da Argentina…. então em 2020 o selo Anaites Records junto com a Eclipsys Lunarys Prods, entrou em contato conosco e lançou o CD em 500 cópias e nós ficamos muito felizes por esse brilhante trabalho dos 2 selos que nos brindou com muitos comentários positivos sobre esse álbum até os dias de hoje…..
No Brasil, infelizmente, não é fácil viver de metal e ainda mais se for extremo. Vocês já tiveram várias trocas de formações e como está a line up atualmente?
Alessandro: Infelizmente aqui no Brasil, é difícil viver de metal e principalmente se for metal extremo…muitas bandas estão migrando para outros países enfim…. nós fazemos um som Atmospheric Doom Metal….então já passei por 2 formação foi quando o Eduardo o Guitarra sai do projeto por motivo familiar…..em seu lugar entrou o Thiago Lima que não deu muito certo…e tiramos ele fora, em seu lugar entrou o talentoso músico que eu já acompanhava o trabalho dele no Rites of Passage o Limac, entrou para a banda e já chegou mostrando quem ele é um grande músico, gravou o álbum (A New Beginning Forever) estamos finalizando as mixagens do álbum que está muito bom deu um novo up na banda e nós estamos muito satisfeitos com ele no Coldwinter… a formação atual é: Alessandro Paiz: Vocals (vocal principal), Jéssica Gartz: (vocais femininos), Limac: (Guitarra, baixo, teclados) e Junior Paschoal: (bateria)
Eu tenho o Rites Of Passage! O EP que leva o nome da banda foi lançado em 2018, pela Black Hearts. Mas esse segundo trabalho que vocês estão finalizando está um pouco atrasado na agenda de vocês, né ? Mais uma vez não é fácil manter uma banda no submundo brasileiro. Como está o processo de produção e criação das faixas? Você pode nos dar maiores detalhes sob o mesmo?
Alessandro: Rites of Passage, é um grande projeto do Limac, grande músico, esse álbum (The Days Were Like This CD 2021) saiu em formato Digipack um belo álbum. Então esse novo álbum nosso está muito atrasado desde 2019 que eu e Eduardo começamos trabalhar nele, foi então que Eduardo saiu da banda as 9 músicas eu engavetei elas, e comecei procurar um guitarra que se encaixasse no perfil da banda…testei o Thiago Lima e não deu certo…..foi aí que o Limac…que eu já acompanhava o trabalho dele, e convidei ele é o cara topou encara o desafio é esta na banda desde 2022. Nosso álbum era para ter saído esse ano de 2022, mas teve muito atraso, você sabe como é todos nós 4 da banda somos muito ocupado com nossos trabalhos, o nosso baterista o Junior ele é dono do Krypta Bestial estúdio….. o cara trabalha muito como produtor musical como músico no estúdio dele….então a prioridade é mais dele…. eu e o Limac somos muito atarefados com nossos trabalhos…..mas agora no segundo semestre de janeiro de 2024 o álbum está saindo porque também temos um compromisso com a gravadora Covil Records e apostou no nosso trabalho….. o cd tem 8 faixas e tem uma participação da nossa amiga… da Alemanha,Carolina Salmona tocando violino na faixa (Where Flowers Will Never Die) Karolina: já tocou violino para o Empyrium e outras bandas……por enquanto as novidades são essas do novo álbum que posso te falar por enquanto….kkkkk, enfim o álbum já está pronto só falta uns pequenos ajustes nas mixagens das músicas…..que está bem diferente do primeiro álbum, com uma pegada sombria…..mas continua com a mesma atmosfera sombrias e melancólicas….
Bah que legal que vocês já assinaram com o selo Covil Records. O Debut saiu pela união de dois selos e o segundo também por um selo. É difícil conseguir lançar um trabalho por selos e muitas bandas têm potencial e ficam no caminho por falta desse suporte. Como rolou a parceria com a Covil Records e o quão importante é para uma banda ter um suporte de um selo?
Alessandro: Sim o Lucas da Covil Records apostou nesse novo álbum e nós estamos muito satisfeitos com isso…..então o primeiro álbum saiu por 2 selos a Anaites Records & Eclipsys Lunarys Productions…..que fizeram um trabalho excelente…..que nos rendeu bons resultados até os dias de hoje. Então meu amigo tem muitas bandas novas por aí muito legal que estão ralando a procura de um selo, ou união de selos para lançar seu trabalho e não acham…. mas isso também depende do estilo de som que você faz, que mais chama a atenção da galera e dono de selos nós somos músicos de estúdio….às vezes dá umas loucuras em nós que sai umas ideias muito loucas e nós colocamos essas ideias em práticas em músicas kkkkkk… Cara para uma banda ter um suporte de uma gravadora basta fazer um trabalho bom que chame a atenção de gravadora antes de gravar um CD faça o projeto como vai ser o álbum uma arte bem feita e músicas que chame a atenção das pessoas e donos de selos e também colocando suas ideias musicais em prática com novos elementos em sua música deixe a mente fluir….eu acho que você sabe quem é músico de estúdio tem muitas ideias musical na mente e 2 a 3 músicos de estúdio juntos com ideias diferentes sai muitas coisas legal…não tenha medo de colocar em suas músicas novas influências para agradar os outras e sim a você, faça aquilo que vem em sua mente que deixe sua música do jeito que você quer que ela seja…..que você vai chegar a uma gravadora boa que vai dá um suporte bom para você e sua música……
Você é músico de estúdio e já gravou com muitos outros artistas e sua especialidade é dentro do metal ou participa de outros estilos musicais, afinal é sua fonte de renda né?
Alessandro: Eu já gravei com banda de black metal, de death metal na época que eu fazia parte delas, hoje me dedico 100% ao Coldwinter. Já Eduardo até hoje continua produzindo para várias bandas que precisam de músicas e só contactar ele e fechar negócio, o Junior tem o estúdio dele produzindo para várias bandas de vários estilos musicais…..hoje o Coldwinter é minha prioridade demora sair um cd porque as ideias vem de mim mesmo, eu crio o projeto e arranjos e passo para o Limac trabalhar em cima das ideias e o contexto musical…..meu tempo é curto depois que casei desde 2007 dobrou os compromissos…..kkkkk o Limac trabalha como professor….. eu trabalho em uma empresa que tem aqui em São Paulo e em Houston (Texas) e em Quito (Equador). Trabalho na base de pressão….kkkkkk meu tempo é muito curto ultimamente….. por isso que os trabalhos do Coldwinter demora sair…..
Já que estamos nesse assunto de vida corrida, trabalho e banda. Não vi nada relacionado ao Coldwinter tocar ao vivo, fazer shows, apresentações. Nos diga como é uma apresentação da banda ao vivo já que o som de vocês é complexo e tem bastante detalhes. O que um metalhead vai encontrar numa apresentação de vocês ao vivo?
Alessandro: Olha o primeiro álbum nós não tocamos ao vivo, porque cada um da banda e compromissado…mas quando sair o novo álbum nós pretendemos tocar ao vivo…. vamos precisar de uns músicos bom, a mulher do nosso baterista ela toca violino, piano, e bateria etc….. pode nos acompanhar como tecladista e violino…. o Limac mora em BH……kkkk a Jéssica agora em janeiro vai ter o bebê dela não sei como vai ser algumas apresentações da banda ao vivo……mas que vai acontecer alguma apresentação ao vivo vai sim….
Eu fiquei sabendo recentemente que você editou um fanzine relacionado ao Doom Metal chamado: Dreamaker. Eu também desde os anos 90 estou envolvido com fanzine impresso. Mas sempre como colaborador no Azathoth Zine do meu amigo Jeff lá em Foz do Iguaçu e lá por 2006 ou 2007 estive no Warzine artefato do meu amigo Wilson “Sir Henkels” primeiro zine de Bombinhas no litoral catarinense. Em 2016, resolvi montar o meu projeto solo e felizmente foi bem aceito e acabei de lançar a quinta edição. Como surgiu a ideia de você editar um zine impresso nos dias atuais, que infelizmente, tem pouca procura. A nova geração não vai atrás desse tipo de arte tão importante do submundo.
Alessandro: Então o Dreamaker zine comecei ele como um zine dedicado ao Doom Metal… saiu 2 edição mas infelizmente é muito difícil, porque a maioria das banda não responde as entrevistas e fica difícil de você manter um zine impresso sem umas entrevistas legais, ultimamente as bandas não estão nem aí para divulgar seu trabalho em fanzines, vejo uma falta de interesse por parte de algumas bandas….. eu sou um cara que dou muito valor aos zines impressos, porque é uma forma das bandas falarem abertamente do que se passa com elas em geral…. mas estou esperando algumas entrevistas para a 3° edição do Dreamaker zine…
Realmente cara, algumas bandas atualmente não valorizam mais o suporte que os fanzines e toda a história de resistência que eles representam dentro do Underground. E os Zines são histórias daquele momento que estava rolando na cena, né! Eu felizmente, nunca tive problemas com bandas em relação às entrevistas e olha que já saíram 5 edições do Maléfica Existência Zine e fora as bandas que entrevistei para o site The Old Coffin Spirit Zine & Portal. Sabe por quê? Porque não entrevisto qualquer banda e só bandas que sei que entendem o que é o Underground e faço uma pesquisa antes, se não tenho contato com algum membro da banda e vejo as posturas deles no Underground. Alessandro, quais zines te chamaram atenção ultimamente e que tens seu apoio?
Alessandro: Então brother, hoje em dia você entrevista as bandas e faz resenhas de seus trabalhos e algumas não divulgam na própria página deles em suas redes sociais, o cara só respondeu e não dá a mínima para a divulgação da sua própria banda que saiu naquele zine…. eu vejo uma falta de interesse por parte de algumas bandas….. os fanzines ainda são o meio de divulgação do submundo que registra no papel a história da cena e que chega nas mãos de quem ainda vive e ama realmente o submundo…..mas quem compra zine, lê zine é da geração que tem o hábito de ter o físico em mãos….hoje vejo que os zines estão voltando a todo vapor…. o sepulchral Voice Zine nos dias de hoje nos orgulha com seu excelente trabalho…..o Zine Death Metal é outro zine que está me surpreendendo a cada edição…outro zine que descobri esses dias é o Éter Zine, um zine de excelente qualidade que está começando dá seus primeiros passos já com a 3 edição….o Akkeldama Zine outro zine fiel ao underground nacional….O Fly Kintal Zine, outro zine fiel ao underground, o Maléfica existência zine, e por aí vai….são muitos que ainda se mantém fiel…..
Realmente cara, existem bandas que não dão a mínima para ajudar na divulgação e isso é triste. Comigo aconteceu com poucas bandas e essas já não divulgo mais e até os materiais delas passei para frente. Para mim o metal e o underground é união e parceria. De todos os Zines citados são foda e ainda acrescentaria: Desgraça Zine, The Glory Of Pagan Fire Zine, Pecatorio Zine, The Crush The Cross zine,Manifesto em Furia Zine, Warfare book zine,Manifesto do Fim do Mundo e tantos outros que estão fazendo um grandioso trabalho. E Alessandro, como você vê o cenário atual brasileiro, o que mudou para melhor e o que precisa melhorar?
Alessandro: Realmente….tem umas bandas novas por aí que não estão nem aí para divulgar seu material em fanzines…..o zine é uma forma de divulgar as bandas underground nacional que está procurando conhecimento….e são vários zines e fanzines magazine….muito legal que a cada dia estão surgindo para divulgar a cena underground nacional…..são todos zines que eu até esqueço de mencionar os nomes……então hoje eu vejo o cenário atual…..bem moderno hoje qualquer banda pode gravar seu CD em um home estúdio em sua casa sem precisar ir a um estúdio profissional e enfrentar todos os instrumentos na raça…..hoje é tudo no computador uma one man band grava tudo em casa, nada contra bandas que só tem um músico porque todas one man band o músico e muito inteligente e criativo…..vejo também muitas bandas novas que grava seu CD e não liga para gravadora, joga o material na Internet tudo digital….nada contra os meio de plataformas digitais….isso ajuda muito na divulgação de que qualquer banda…..eu sinto a falta da mídia física….e isso que as bandas underground nacional precisam dar mais atenção em CDS físicos…mas fazer o que estamos na era moderna agora….termos que aceitar de qualquer forma…..eu sou daqueles que procuro divulgar meu cd seja lá onde for, em zines web-zines, website nos canais do YouTube… enfim porque uma banda é uma família a cada cd que é lançado e como um filho que chegou ao mundo….e isso é uma coisa que não tem preço….para você fazer uma boa divulgação da sua banda grave um material bom, faça merchandising da sua banda camisetas, adesivos, pôster, botton etc….se você não tem uma condição financeira procure uma produtora de divulgação…para fazer a merchandising da sua banda eu indico a Dissonanz.metal.shop…procure n12 –
E o que você anda ouvindo ultimamente? Quais bandas têm chamado sua atenção e que você indicaria para nossos leitores ?
Alessandro: Olha o que eu ando escutando ultimamente são bandas novas…do Ambient Drone, Atmospheric Funeral Doom Metal, Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal…. são bandas muito criativas que são elas…..The Howling Void, Mesarthim, kokomo, Mare Infinitum, Wine From Tears, Slow, Moonlight Sorcery…as bandas que eu indicaria para os leitores….conhecem são elas, Funeral Fukk, Inborn Suffering, Clouds, Shape of Despair, Aeonian Sorrow, Eye Of Solitude, Pantheist, Atten Ash, Evadne, do Doom metal e funeral Doom Metal… ouçam essas bandas que são grandes pérolas do Doom metal de 98 a 2015……
E bandas do nosso cenário nacional o que você escuta e apoia ?
Alessandro: Bandas do cenário nacional que mais curto e apoio são elas… Mythological Cold Towers, HellLight, Lacrimas Mortis, The Taciturn, Eternal Solitude, Eternal Sorrow…..

About to release the second album “A New Beginning Forever” we exchanged an idea with Alessandro, lead singer of the São Paulo Black Doom Metal band, Coldwinter.
Greetings my dear, Alessandro! Welcome to the pages of The Old Coffin Spirit zine. The band at the beginning of 2014 started as a duo, you and Eduardo and recorded the first demo tape “First Demo 2015 (Previously Unreleased Rehearsal)”. Despite being released as a “demo”, the work contains 11 tracks, in other words: it is a complete album. How was this artifact accepted in the underworld and why did it come out as a demo at the time?
Alessandro: Thank you very much for the space in The Old Coffin Spirit Zine, it is an immense pleasure to be featured in this publication, we are very happy to be able to talk about Coldwinter to everyone who wants to know the band, our music, it is also our story. Our first Demo 2015, was where it all started, Me & Eduardo, we are studio musicians and we decided to test our knowledge by recording something different, that’s when we recorded 11 songs and this Demo CD was released independently in a few copies, we received many positive reviews from several magazines and fanzines and from various countries, this Demo was then polished with all the songs that were included on the full-length CD with Junior Paschoal on drums… released in 2017 on the band’s bandcamp
Oh, okay. So, practically the Debut – album “Cold Light of the Horizon Dawning” (2017) are the same tracks as the Demo – CD, but they were given a better polish in the studio. And before releasing the full album you released an EP “The Horizon Dawning”. (2016) What can you tell us about both released works? Was the final result what the band wanted?
Alessandro: Cold Light of the Horizon Dawning, there are the 11 songs in the Demo but we made some adjustments to the songs with some new arrangements, we re-recorded the Vocals….. and before the full-length CD came out we released the The Horizon Dawning – 2016 (EP) with 3 songs, 01.Before Dawn to Darkness, 02. Embracing My Funeral, 03.The Solitude of Eternity… this Ep was well received by the specialized media, and we were very pleased, with this work…..which gave us a re-release of the Ep in Argentina on the Herrecords label, which not only released the ep but also the Demo……
Look how interesting it was launched in Argentina too. Argentina has a very strong metal scene! I have several contacts there, including Daniela from the Del Imaginários Discos label. And before the Debut – CD came out, you signed a contract with Leandro Fernandes from Eclipsy Lunarys Records, and how was that partnership?
Alessandro: Yes, the Demo is the Ep It was released by the Herrecords label, Underground label and distro of Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe, Argentina….. I have Rites Of Passage! The EP that bears the band’s name was released in 2018, by Black Hearts. But this second project that you are finishing is a little behind your schedule, right? Once again it is not easy to maintain a band in the Brazilian underworld. How is the production and track creation process? Can you give us more details?
Alessandro: Rites of Passage, is a great project by Limac, a great musician, this album (The Days Were Like This CD 2021) came out in Digipack format, a beautiful album. So this new album of ours has been long overdue since Eduardo and I started working on it in 2019, it was then that Eduardo left the band, the 9 songs I shelved, and I started looking for a guitar that fit the band’s profile… I tested Thiago Lima and it didn’t work out…..that’s when Limac…I already followed his work, and I invited him and he was the guy who accepted the challenge and has been in the band since 2022. Our album was supposed to come out this year, 2022, but there was a lot of delay, you know how it is, all 4 of us in the band are very busy with our work, our drummer Junior, he owns the Krypta Bestial studio….. the The guy works a lot as a music producer as a musician in his studio….so the priority is more his…. Limac and I are very busy with our work…..but now in the second half of January 2024 the album is coming out because we also have a commitment with the label Covil Records and they invested in our work….. the CD has 8 tracks and features our friend… from Germany, Carolina Salmona playing violin on the track (Where Flowers Will Never Die) Karolina: has already played violin for Empyrium and other bands……for now the news is the new album that I can tell you about for now….lol, finally the album is ready, it just needs to be done some small adjustments to the song mixes…..which is very different from the first album, with a dark feel…..but it still has the same dark and melancholic atmosphere….
Oh, how cool that you guys have already signed with the Covil Records label. Debut came out through the union of two labels and the second also through one label. It’s difficult to get work released on labels and many bands have potential and get in the way due to lack of support. How did the partnership with Covil Records happen and how important is it for a band to have support from a label?
Alessandro: Yes, Lucas from Covil Records invested in this new album and we are very pleased with it…..so the first album came out on 2 labels, Anaites Records & Eclipsys Lunarys Productions…..who did an excellent job. ….which has given us good results to this day. So, my friend, there are a lot of really cool new bands out there that are trying hard to find a label, or union of labels to release their work and they can’t find it…. but that also depends on the style of sound you make, what appeals most to you? the attention of the crowd and label owners, we are studio musicians….sometimes it makes us go crazy and some really crazy ideas come up and we put these ideas into practice in songs hahaha… It’s expensive for a band to have support of a record company, just do a good job that catches the attention of the record company before recording a CD, create the project, what the album will be like, well-made art and songs that attract the attention of people and label owners and also putting your musical ideas into practice with new elements in your music, let your mind flow….I think you know that anyone who is a studio musician has a lot of musical ideas in their mind and 2 to 3 studio musicians together with different ideas comes out with a lot of cool things…no be afraid to add new influences to your music to please others and yourself, do what comes to your mind to make your music the way you want it to be… and you will get to a good record label which will provide good support for you and your music……
You are a studio musician and have recorded with many other artists and your specialty is metal or participating in other musical styles, after all it is your source of income, right?
Alessandro: I’ve recorded with black metal and death metal bands when I was part of them, today I dedicate myself 100% to Coldwinter. Eduardo, to this day, continues to produce for several bands that need songs and just contact him and close a deal, Junior has his studio producing for several bands of different musical styles….. today Coldwinter is my priority. It takes a while for a CD to come out because the ideas come from myself, I create the project and arrangements and pass it on to Limac to work on the ideas and the musical context…..my time is short after being married since 2007 and my commitments have doubled….. kkkkk Limac works as a teacher….. I work in a company here in São Paulo and Houston City in Texas, and in Quito, Capital of Ecuador….I work under pressure….kkkkkk my time is very short lately…..that’s why coldwinter work takes a long time to come out….. Since we are on the subject of busy life, work and band. I didn’t see anything related to Coldwinter playing live, doing shows, presentations.
Tell us what the band performs live as your sound is complex and has a lot of details. What will a metalhead find at a live performance of yours ?
Alessandro: Look at the first album we didn’t play live, because everyone in the band is committed… but when the new album comes out we intend to play live… we’re going to need some good musicians, our drummer’s wife is her plays the violin, piano, and drums etc….. he can accompany us as a keyboardist and violin…. Limac lives in BH……lol Jéssica is going to have her baby in January, I don’t know how it’s going there will be some live performances by the band……but there will be some live performances….
I recently learned that you edited a fanzine related to Doom Metal called: Dreamaker. I have also been involved with printed fanzine since the 90s. But always as a collaborator on my friend Jeff’s Azathoth Zine there in Foz do Iguaçu and back in 2006 or 2007 I was on the Warzine artifact of my friend Wilson “Sir Henkels”, the first Bombinhas zine on the coast of Santa Catarina. In 2016, I decided to set up my solo project and luckily it was well received and I just released the fifth edition. How did you come up with the idea of publishing a printed zine nowadays, which unfortunately has little demand? The new generation does not go after this type of art that is so important in the underworld.
Alessandro: So Dreamaker zine I started as a zine dedicated to Doom Metal… 2 editions came out but unfortunately it’s very difficult, because most bands don’t respond to interviews and it’s difficult for you to keep a zine printed without some cool interviews, lately bands don’t care about promoting their work in fanzines, I see a lack of interest on the part of some bands….. I’m a guy who values printed zines a lot, because it’s a way for bands to talk openly about their what’s going on with them in general… but I’m waiting for some interviews for the 3rd edition of Dreamaker zine…
Really man, some bands nowadays no longer value the support that fanzines and the entire history of resistance that they represent within the Underground. And the Zines are stories from that moment that was happening in the scene, right! Fortunately, I’ve never had any problems with bands in relation to interviews and 5 editions of Maléfica Existência Zine have already come out, apart from the bands I interviewed for the website The Old Coffin Spirit Zine & Portal. Do you know why? Because I don’t interview any band and only bands that I know understand what the Underground is and I do research beforehand, if I don’t have contact with a member of the band and see their stances on the Underground. Alessandro, which zines have caught your attention lately and which have your support?
Alessandro: So brother, nowadays you interview bands and do reviews of their work and some don’t publish it on their own page on their social networks, the guy just responded and doesn’t give a damn about the promotion of his own band that came out in that zine…. I see a lack of interest on the part of some bands….. fanzines are still the means of disseminating the underworld that records the history of the scene on paper and reaches the hands of those who still live and really love the underworld…..but those who buy zines and read zines are from the generation that has the habit of having the physical in hand….today I see that zines are making a comeback…the sepulchral Voice Zine nowadays makes us proud with its excellent work…..the Death Metal Zine is another zine that is surprising me with each edition…another zine that I discovered these days is Éter Zine, a zine of excellent quality that is starting to take its first steps with its 3rd edition….Akkeldama Zine, another zine faithful to the national underground….Fly Kintal Zine, another zine faithful to the underground, Maléfica existencia zine, and so on…there are many that still remain faithful…..
Really man, there are bands that don’t give a damn about helping with promotion and that’s sad. It happened to me with a few bands and I no longer share those and even their materials I passed on. For me, metal and the underground are union and partnership. Of all the Zines mentioned, they are amazing and I would also add: Desgraça Zine, The Glory Of Pagan Fire Zine, Pecatorio Zine, The Crush The Cross zine, Manifesto in Furia Zine, Warfare book zine, Manifesto do Fim do Mundo and many others that are doing a great work. And Alessandro, how do you see the current Brazilian scenario, what has changed for the better and what needs to improve?
Alessandro: Look what I’ve been listening to lately, they’re new bands… Ambient Drone, Atmospheric Funeral Doom Metal, Sludge/Stoner/Doom Metal….they are very creative bands…..The Howling Void, Mesarthim, kokomo, Mare Infinitum, Wine From Tears, Slow, Moonlight Sorcery. ..the bands that I would recommend to readers….you know are them, Funeral Fukk, Inborn Suffering, Clouds, Shape of Despair, Aeonian Sorrow, Eye Of Solitude, Pantheist, Atten Ash, Evadne, from Doom metal and funeral Doom Metal… listen to these bands that are great gems of Doom metal from 98 to 2015……
And bands from our national scene, what do you listen to and support?
Alessandro: Bands from the national scene that I enjoy the most and support… Mythological Cold Towers, HellLight, Lacrimas Mortis, The Taciturn, Eternal Solitude, Eternal Sorrow…..
