BLOOD CHALICE – The Blasphemous Psalms of Cannibalism (Adv. 2022)

Há quem diga que o grau de imundície originado pelos grandes nomes do metal extremo finlandês é incomparável. Exagero ou não, os integrantes do BLOOD CHALICE propõem uma modalidade de Black Death Metal das mais repulsivas, blasfemas e devastadoras da atualidade.

 Formada em 2015 por maníacos experientes, e representantes de diferentes vertentes do metal extremo, a banda lançou seu primeiro álbum em 2017, o sólido “Sepulchral Chants of Self-Destruction”. Esse ano marca a chegada do segundo disco de estúdio, profanamente batizado “The Blasphemous Psalms of Cannibalism”.

 O trabalho tem lançamento previsto para a primeira quinzena de setembro, com CDs e Fitas Cassete saindo via “Werewolf Records”. Os discos de vinil serão disponibilizados mais adiante.

 Aos não iniciados, o Black Death do BLOOD CHALICE é envolto em obscuridade, brutalidade e heresia extremas. A sonoridade da banda conta com fortes elementos de Deathgrind e Grindcore, e as composições apresentam uma variedade excepcional, agregando atmosfera em pontos cruciais e resultando em uma experiência vertiginosa e atordoante.

 A arte de capa do álbum segue a orientação explícita, altamente blasfema e provocativa do trabalho anterior. Confira e depare-se com uma das obras mais chocantes e profanas do ano.

 Apesar de toda a selvageria e caos produzidos pela banda, suas composições têm apelo, e é fácil empolgar-se com a demência satânica oferecida pelo quarteto. Os vocais de múltiplas entonações, muitas vezes sobrepostos, desempenham papel fundamental, e acrescentam em insânia.

 O início com “The Black Mass” não poderia ser melhor, uma convocação aos ritos obscuros em grande estilo, brutal, implacável e viciante. Puro War Metal, a sequência “The Last Supper of Insects”, esmagando o ouvinte como um verdadeiro rolo compressor.

 Confirmando a versatilidade das composições, “Antichristian War Declaration” e “Matanbuchus” desaceleram quando necessário, investem em atmosfera carregada e sabem descambar com acelerações inacreditáveis (caso da segunda, que transita brilhantemente entre o Black Doom e o Grindcore).

 O solo mais doentio e selvagem encontra-se na vitriólica “Burned Faith”. Já “Celestial Destroyer” difere da maioria por ser mais extensa e atmosférica, apesar de manter intacto o peso esmagador e aura nefasta.

 A imunda faixa título tem muito de Grindcore em seu início, ganhando contornos Doom a partir da entrada dos vocais demoníacos e retomando a violência desmedida do Deathgrind em sua reta final. “Blood Worship” soa fantástica, uma das mais cativantes e diretas do trabalho.

 “Hate Meditation” funciona exatamente como entrega seu título, uma odiosa meditação que faz a ponte com “Temet Nosce”, uma nova explosão de puro Black Metal finlandês, veemente e irresistível como faziam (e ainda fazem) alguns dos pilares do estilo. Fantástica.

 Uma enxurrada de riffs cortantes dá corpo a “From the Grave of Livyatan”, em meio aos vocais mais perturbadores do play. O final se dá com a doentia “The Rise of Iconoclast”, que oscila entre seções atmosféricas e outras brutalmente velozes e pesadas com naturalidade ultrajante. Excelente escolha para a conclusão.

 O segundo álbum de estúdio do BLOOD CHALICE afirma-se como um colossal foda-se a qualquer traço de modernidade e às religiões organizadas em geral. Um caldeirão fervente e pulsante de metal extremo, abrangendo muitos dos subgêneros sob uma amálgama quase perfeita.

Some say the degree of filth achieved by the great Finnish extreme metal hordes is unmatched. Exaggeration or not, BLOOD CHALICE members offer one of the most repulsive, ungodly, and devastating current brands of Black Death Metal.

 Formed in 2015 by experienced maniacs, representing diverse sorts of extreme metal, the band released their first album in 2017, the solid “Sepulchral Chants of Self-Destruction”. This year marks the arrival of their second studio album, profanely baptized “The Blasphemous Psalms of Cannibalism”.

 The work is set for release in the first half of September, with CDs and Cassette Tapes coming out via “Werewolf Records”. Vinyl records will be made available later in the year.

 For the uninitiated, BLOOD CHALICE’s Black Death is shrouded in extreme obscurity, brutality, and heresy. The band’s sound has poisonous Grindcore and Deathgrind elements, and the compositions present an exceptional variety, adding suffocating atmosphere at crucial points and resulting in a bewildering experience.

 The album’s cover art follows the explicit, highly profane, provocative guidance of the previous work. Check it out at your own risk and come across one of the most shocking and sacrilegious pieces of art so far in 2022.

 For all the savagery and chaos produced by the band, their songwriting is appealing, and it’s easy to get carried away by the satanic madness conjured by the quartet. The multi-toned vocals, often overlapping, play a key role, adding salt to the wound (in this case, in the best possible way).

 The beginning with “The Black Mass” couldn’t be better, a sinister gathering summoning dark rites in a brutal, relentless, and addictive fashion. The sequel “The Last Supper of Insects” is pure War Metal, crushing the listener like a steamroller.

 Confirming the compositions versatility, “Antichristian War Declaration” and “Matanbuchus” slow down, when necessary, invest in a heavily charged atmosphere and turns the table with unbelievable accelerations (mostly the second one, which brilliantly transitions between Black Doom and Grindcore).

 The sickest and most schizophrenic guitar solo can be found in the vitriolic “Burned Faith”. “Celestial Destroyer” differs from most tracks, lengthy and atmospheric, despite keeping its oppressive heaviness and ominous aura intact.

 The filthy title track has a lot of Grindcore at first, turning Doomy as soon as the demonic vocals lead the way, only to fire away Deathgrind’s outright violence in its final stretch. “Blood Worship” sounds fantastic, one of the record’s most captivating and straightforward pieces.

 “Hate Meditation” delivers exactly what its title implies, an odious meditation that bridges the gap with “Temet Nosce”, yet another burst of sheer Finnish Black Metal, vehement and irresistible as some of the style’s Deities did in the glorious days of old (and some still do). Fantastic.

 A barrage of cutting riffs flesh out “From the Grave of Livyatan”, amidst the Opus’ most disturbing vocals. The end comes with the sickening “The Rise of Iconoclast”, which oscillates between atmospheric and brutally fast, crushing sections with outrageous naturalness. Excellent choice for a closure.

 BLOOD CHALICE’s second studio album asserts itself as a colossal fuck off to any traces of modernity, as well as to organized religions in general. A boiling, pulsating cauldron of extreme metal, spanning several of the subgenres under a near-perfect blend.
