ALBURNUM – Buitenlucht (2022)

Vamos para mais uma estreia nas páginas do T.O.C.S. – desta vez, uma jovem formação holandesa de nome ALBURNUM, que inicia sua trajetória pelo universo do metal extremo lançando seu primeiro álbum de estúdio, o sólido e melancólico “Buitenlucht”.

 A dupla responsável pelo projeto elabora um Black Metal significativamente gélido, porém de inclinação melódica, concebido por meio de músicas extensas e bem estruturadas, criando momentos hipnóticos e cativantes com facilidade.

 Há uma infusão inteligente de elementos Atmosféricos, Pagan e Folk, acrescentando principalmente em melancolia, e explorando um amplo espectro de emoções opressivas. As composições foram inspiradas pelo resultado da reflexão sobre realidades tão humanas e atuais como depressão, tristeza e solidão, em contato direto com a natureza.

 A excepcional faixa de abertura “Ik Kan Niet Zien” abre com agressividade e aspereza, com a bateria veloz e sóbria de “R.v.R.” (Bateria e Vocais Adicionais) e os vocais rasgados competentes do multi-instrumentista “D.B.” (Vocais, Guitarras, Baixo, Bandolim e Acordeom). O efeito magnético dos primeiros quatro minutos é quebrado pelo som distinto do acordeom, seguido por riffs melódicos, enérgicos e persistentes. Belíssima apresentação.

 “Eeuwig Licht” é introduzida por um riff poderoso, que a estrutura e a conduz turbulenta e melodicamente. Guitarras acústicas tomam a frente, e criam uma sessão atmosférica, interrompida pela bateria, vocais extremos e vocais em coro. Vigorosa, soa muito mais épica, e até triunfante. Não à toa, seu título pode ser traduzido como “Luz Eterna”.

 “Buitenlucht” retoma os ares mais melancólicos e decididamente hipnóticos. O ritmo médio predomina, e beneficia-se da atmosfera soturna e sorumbática. Ao final, os vocais em coro somam-se e alternam-se com os extremos, criando um contraste interessante.

“Fluisterend Water” encerra prematuramente o trabalho, mantendo foco no clima depressivo, porém com mais veemência e agressividade. Pausa para o riffão melódico, expressivo e intenso. Volta às levadas persistentes, que progressivamente transportam a faixa à sua conclusão contraditoriamente suave, regida por violões e acordeom.

 Considerando a duração do Play, eu o chamaria de um mini álbum, ou EP. De qualquer forma, trata-se de uma ótima estreia dos holandeses do ALBURNUM. Potencial enorme, banda para se manter no radar. Trabalho de natureza intimista e reflexivo, que transmite as emoções do compositor com potência e clareza.

 Recomendável aos fãs de sons como WINDIR (NOR), VREID (NOR), DRUDKH (UCR), AGGALOCH (EUA), FLUISTERAARS (HOL), WIEGEDOOD (BEL), FEN (GBR).

Let’s head for yet another debut on “T.O.C.S.” pages – this time, a young Dutch formation named ALBURNUM, which starts their journey through the extreme metal universe releasing the solid and melancholic “Buitenlucht”.

 The duo in charge elaborates a significantly icy Black Metal, while keeping a melodic inclination, conceived through lengthy, well-structured songs, creating hypnotic and captivating moments with ease.

 There’s a clever infusion of Atmospheric, Pagan and Folk elements, mostly adding to melancholy, and exploring a wide spectrum of overwhelming emotions. The compositions were inspired by the result of reflection in direct contact with nature, about current human struggles, such as depression, sadness and loneliness.

 The exceptional opening track “Ik Kan Niet Zien” opens aggressively and harshly, with the fast, sober drumming of “R.v.R.” (Drums and Additional Vocals) and the competent growls of multi-instrumentalist “D.B.” (Vocals, Guitars, Bass, Mandolin, and Accordion). The magnetic effect of the first four minutes is broken by the distinct accordion sound, followed by melodic, energetic, and persistent riffs. A beautiful introduction.

 “Eeuwig Licht” sets off with a powerful riff, which structures and drives it turbulent and melodically. Acoustic guitars take the lead, and create an atmospheric session, interrupted by drums, extreme vocals, and chorus vocals. Vigorous, it sounds much more epic, even triumphant. No wonder its title can be translated as “Eternal Light”.

 “Buitenlucht” takes up the most melancholic and decidedly hypnotic aura. The medium rhythm predominates, and benefits from the grim and gloomy atmosphere. In the end, the chants add up and alternate with the black metal shrieks, resulting in a fine contrast.

“Fluisterend Water” ends the record prematurely, keeping the focus on the depressive mood, but with more vehemence and aggression. Pause for the melodic, expressive, and intense riff. Back to the persistent sections, which progressively transport the track to its contradictorily smooth conclusion, led by acoustic guitars and accordion.

 Considering the record’s length, I would call it a mini album, or EP. Anyway, it’s a great debut by the Dutch ALBURNUM. Huge potential, a band to be kept on the radar. A work of intimate and contemplative nature, which conveys the composer’s emotions with power and clarity.
