DEATH KOMMANDER – Never to grow old (Adv. CD 2025)

Tenho aqui um álbum que com certeza vai criar infinitas discussões sobre originalidade de uma banda, se ela abraça influências, ou seja, ela apenas copia cada elemento de uma banda específica e cria sua carreira a partir daí. Bom, acredito que ambas teorias poderiam ser aplicadas, mas querem saber de uma coisa ? Para mim, cada vez mais, é a música e apenas a música que me atrai. Não significa que irei ouvir qualquer coisa, longe disso, existem aquelas porcarias que nunca chegamos pertos e isso não vai mudar.

Mas em termos musicais o DEATH KOMMANDER simplesmente criou um álbum incrível de death metal. Com membros vindo de vários países diferentes, tais como Escócia, Alemanha, Grécia, Polônia e Suíça, esse quinteto conseguiu unir diferentes experiências e moldar um tributo poderoso ao incomparável Bolt Thrower. Sim, caros ouvintes/leitores rabugentos, eu sei que o Bolt Thrower já existe (ou existia) e que o DEATH KOMMANDER replica sua fórmula, mas sinceramente eu não ligo a mínima.

Quando escuto uma banda que se encaixa em um contexto musical que me agrada eu quero ouvir é boa música e eu garanto que nesse caso o DEATH KOMMANDER destrói tudo ao seu redor. Da mesma forma que o Bolt Thrower sempre teve em sua temática lírica o conceito da guerra, esses caras abraçaram o período da Primeira Guerra Mundial para servir de pano de fundo para sua música. A própria arte da capa do álbum é um exemplo disso e que bela arte temos em “Never To Grow Old”. Gostei muito da paleta de cores mais discretas e principalmente pela banda não ter escolhido o vermelho. Isso é algo que está saturado em termos de artes. Todo mundo enche a capa de vermelho.

Musicalmente o death metal do grupo foca intensamente no peso, em bases de guitarra cheias de feeling, em arranjos que criam atmosferas quase épicas e bélicas, da mesma forma que os álbuns mais clássicos do Bolt Thrower o faziam. E tudo funciona de forma incrível. São pouco mais de 30 minutos de puro metal da morte cheios de grandes momentos, uma vocalização intensa e pútrida.  Se alguém me perguntasse qual a maior característica desse trabalho eu diria sem grandes delongas que “Never To Grow Old” é um álbum para você bater cabeça até seu pescoço travar. Desligar os celulares e em um local pequeno, com uma intensa iluminação que mistura vermelho, azul, verde e muita fumaça de gelo seco com o DEATH KOMMANDER executando essas faixas na íntegra. Isso seria o verdadeiro cenário do metal da morte sendo saudado por todos os maníacos presentes.

Não há músicas ruins. “Never to grown old” é um álbum matador em sua totalidade, com uma produção excelente e músicas criadas por quem entende do negócio. Isso é death metal meus caros. Puro e direto metal bélico da morte. As músicas que mais me chamaram a atenção foram: a faixa de abertura “Bayonet Drill” (e seus riffs e arranjos), “Through the Chest” (que música ! Aqui você vai bater cabeça como um insano e prepare-se para o peso absurdo dessa composição), “Aftermath Master” (com partes mais rápidas e uma coleção de riffs destruidores e talvez a melhor música do álbum), a dupla “Never to Grow Old” e “Where is the Front” são muito interessantes pois trazem elementos muito próprios do DEATH KOMMANDER e soam com mais personalidade, mostrando aqui, talvez, um caminho que a banda seguirá no futuro.

Não há dúvidas que os debates sobre originalidade ocorrerão, mas “Never to grow Old” é um álbum que me agradou totalmente. Death metal é o meu negócio e esses caras souberam como “vender” seu produto. Comprei imediatamente!

I have here an album that is sure to create endless discussions about a band’s originality, whether it embraces influences, or whether it just copies every element of a specific band and creates its career from there. Well, I think both theories could be applied, but you know what? For me, more and more, it’s the music and only the music that attracts me. That doesn’t mean I’m going to listen to just anything, far from it, there are those pieces of crap that you never get close to and that’s not going to change.

But in musical terms DEATH KOMMANDER have simply created an incredible death metal album. With members coming from several different countries, such as Scotland, Germany, Greece, Poland and Switzerland, this quintet has managed to bring together different experiences and shape a powerful tribute to the incomparable Bolt Thrower. Yes, dear grumpy listeners/readers, I know that Bolt Thrower already exists (or existed) and that DEATH KOMMANDER replicates his formula, but I honestly don’t give a damn.

When I listen to a band that fits into a musical context that I like, I want to hear good music and I guarantee that in this case DEATH KOMMANDER destroys everything around them. In the same way that Bolt Thrower have always had the concept of war in their lyrical themes, these guys have embraced the period of the First World War as a backdrop for their music. The album cover art itself is an example of this and what a beautiful artwork we have on “Never To Grow Old”. I really liked the more discreet color palette and especially the fact that the band didn’t go for red. That’s something that’s saturated in terms of artwork. Everyone fills the cover with red.

Musically, the band’s death metal focuses intensely on heaviness, on guitar bases full of feeling, on arrangements that create almost epic, warlike atmospheres, just as Bolt Thrower’s more classic albums did. And it all works incredibly well. It’s just over 30 minutes of pure death metal full of great moments, intense and putrid vocalizing.  If someone were to ask me what the greatest characteristic of this work is, I would say without much ado that “Never To Grow Old” is an album that will make you bang your head until your neck snaps. Turn off your cell phones and in a small venue, with intense lighting that mixes red, blue, green and lots of dry ice smoke with DEATH KOMMANDER performing these tracks in their entirety. That would be the real death metal scene being greeted by all the maniacs present.

There are no bad songs. “Never to grow old” is a killer album in its entirety, with excellent production and songs created by those who understand the business. This is death metal, my friends. Pure and direct warlike death metal. The songs that caught my attention the most were: the opening track “Bayonet Drill” (and its riffs and arrangements), “Through the Chest” (what a song ! Here you will bang your head like an insane person and be prepared for the absurd weight of this composition), “Aftermath Master” (with faster parts and a collection of destructive riffs and perhaps the best song on the album), the duo “Never to Grow Old” and “Where is the Front” are very interesting because they bring very DEATH KOMMANDER elements and sound with more personality, showing here, perhaps, a path that the band will follow in the future.

There’s no doubt that there will be debates about originality, but “Never to grow Old” is an album that I thoroughly enjoyed. Death metal is my thing and these guys know how to “sell” their product. I bought it immediately!
