MIASTHENIA – Espíritos Rupestres (CD 2024)

Seis anos após o seu último álbum de estúdio “Antípodas”, a banda brasiliense de pagan black metal MIASTHENIA finalmente retorna com um novo trabalho intitulado “Espíritos Rupestres”. Esses seis anos entre um álbum e outro trouxeram mudanças tanto na formação da banda quanto em aspectos musicais que compõe o som do quarteto de Brasília. Pela primeira vez o MIASTHENIA tem uma formação quase toda feminina, o que aconteceu com a entrada da baixista Aletea e da baterista Lith.

A formação se fortaleceu com a entrada das duas e o resultado foi um álbum realmente poderoso. Suzane Hécate continua nos vocais e teclados, assim como Thormianak continua na guitarra, sendo a diferença a adição da baterista Lith (que após o álbum parece ter saído de sua posição) e da baixista Aletea.

Com mais de 30 anos de carreira e uma música com uma sonoridade muito própria, o MIASTHENIA lançou esse novo trabalho e mais uma vez adicionou novas camadas ao seu pagan black metal. Inicialmente a produção de “Espíritos Rupestres” é uma das melhores que a banda já fez, principalmente no que diz respeito a todo o aspecto lírico e gráfico. O álbum vez em uma versão digibook lindíssima, com letras, fotos e um extenso encarte com o conto “A Bruxa Xamã”, conto este que embasa todas as músicas do álbum.

O álbum abre com a ritualística “Evocação”, que tem uma linha melódica incrível, uma atmosfera épica envolvente e um trabalho de guitarras certeiro. Mas é quando “Bruxa Xamã” é executada que você percebe que esse novo trabalho está em um nível acima me termos de criação na banda. A primeira surpresa fica para o uso de vocais limpos cantados que soam como lamentos das profundezas da floresta. O solo de guitarra nessa composição tem um baita feeling.

Mais intensa e violenta é “Cárcere da Inquisição”. Letra poderosa e uma linha de melodias profundas que fazem dessa um destaque no álbum. Os corais ficaram muito bons.

‘Saga de Mil Povos” e “Guerra dos Bárbaros” constroem um clímax impactante, principalmente a segunda. A conexão entre partes mais pesadas e as linhas melódicas sempre presentes é algo diferenciado. A próxima composição seja, ao meu ver, a melhor de “Espíritos Rupestres”. “Tapuia Marcha” tem uma força vital própria, soa muito agressiva ao mesmo tempo que preserva as características marcantes da música do MIASTHENIA. Eu sempre fui um grande fã de solos de guitarra e aqui temos mais um que é matador.

As próximas são “Guardiã dos Mistérios Rupestres” e a faixa título “Espíritos Rupestres”. A primeira não se distancia das faixas anteriores e conta com grande momentos como no solo final. Já “Espíritos Rupestres” é outro grande momento do álbum. Uma grande linha melódica guia a música do início ao fim, os teclados soam épicos como se esperaria. Há um riff nessa música que me lembrou muito o Venom e os teclados criam algo que parece o Master´s Hammer. O resultado final é muito bom.

Finalmente “Transmutação” fecha o álbum com sua pegada mais tribal e marcial na bateria e guitarra. Há algo de heavy metal e hard rock que soou muito bom. Os vocais cantados me lembraram algo do rock progressivo brasileiro dos anos 70 e ainda assim caiu como uma luva à ideia da composição.

“Espíritos Rupestres” só solidifica o nome do MIASTHENIA na cena brasileira e com certeza foi um dos melhores álbuns do ano passado.

Six years after their last studio album “Antípodas”, the Brasilian pagan black metal band MIASTHENIA has finally returned with a new album entitled “Espíritos Rupestres” (Rupestrian Spirits). The six years between one album and the next have brought changes both in the band’s line-up and in the musical aspects that make up the Brasília quartet’s sound. For the first time, MIASTHENIA has an almost all-female line-up, with the addition of bassist Aletea and drummer Lith.

The line-up was strengthened by the addition of the two women and the result was a really powerful album. Suzane Hecate continues on vocals and keyboards, as does Thormianak on guitar, the difference being the addition of drummer Lith (who seems to have left her position after the album) and bassist Aletea.

With a career spanning more than 30 years and music with a very distinctive sound, MIASTHENIA have released this new album and once again added new layers to their pagan black metal. Initially, the production of “Rupestrian Spirits” is one of the best the band has ever done, especially when it comes to the whole lyrical and graphic aspect. The album comes in a beautiful digibook version, with lyrics, photos and an extensive booklet with the story “A Bruxa Xamã” (The Shaman Witch), the story that underpins all the songs on the album.

The album opens with the ritualistic “Evocation”, which has an incredible melodic line, an enveloping epic atmosphere and precise guitar work. But it’s when “Bruxa Xamã” is played that you realize that this new work is on a higher level in terms of the band’s creation. The first surprise is the use of clean sung vocals that sound like laments from the depths of the forest. The guitar solo in this composition has a great feeling.

More intense and violent is “Cárcere da Inquisição”. Powerful lyrics and a line of deep melodies make this one an album highlight. The choirs are very good.

‘Saga de Mil Povos” and “Guerra dos Bárbaros” build to an impactful climax, especially the latter. The connection between the heavier parts and the ever-present melodic lines is something different. The next composition is, in my opinion, the best of “Espíritos Rupestres”. “Tapuia Marcha” has a vital force of its own, sounding very aggressive while preserving the striking characteristics of MIASTHENIA‘s music. I’ve always been a big fan of guitar solos and here we have another killer one.

Next up are “Guardiã dos Mistérios Rupestres” and the title track “Espíritos Rupestres”. The former is not dissimilar to the previous tracks and has some great moments, such as the final solo. “Espíritos Rupestres” is another great moment on the album. A great melodic line guides the song from start to finish, and the keyboards sound as epic as you’d expect. There’s a riff in this song that reminded me a lot of Venom and the keyboards create something that sounds like Master´s Hammer . The final result is very good.

Finally, “Transmutação” closes the album with its more tribal and martial drums and guitars. There’s something heavy metal and hard rock about it that sounds very good. The sung vocals reminded me of Brazilian progressive rock from the 70s and yet they fit the idea of the composition like a glove.

“Espíritos Rupestres” only solidifies MIASTHENIA‘s name on the Brazilian scene and was certainly one of the best albums of last year.
