SERVANT – Death Devil Magick (Adv. CD 2024)

O SERVANT é uma banda oriunda da região da Baixa Saxônia, na Alemanha e tem tido uma carreira que, embora curta, tem sido bastante produtiva. A primeira demo tape foi lançada em 2021 e agora no próximo mês, o grupo já chega ao seu terceiro álbum oficial intitulado “Death Devil Magick”.

“Death Devil Magick” é um álbum que mistura de forma muito natural elementos da velha escola do black metal com a abordagem mais atual do estilo, muito presente em bandas como Uada, MGLA, Gaerea e Wayfarer. Acredito que essa sonoridade acabou nos proporcionando um álbum realmente incrível. Todas as músicas (são 9 no total, incluindo uma introdução) usam a abusam de melodias cativantes, riffs certeiros, uma bateria que pode ir de momentos mais contidos até a mais pura velocidade. Os vocais são realmente muito bons e incluo nessa análise a qualidade mostrada em torno da forma que esses vocais são colocados dentro das composições.

Há momentos em que atmosferas mais lúgubres e etéreas se fazem presentes e isso dá um tempero a mais dentro da proposta do grupo. Algo que gostei bastante foi a forma como eles usaram as melodias em seus riffs. De alguma forma me lembra o Dissection e até mesmo o Dimmu Borgir em seu “Enthrone Darkness Triumphant”. Há uma classe que envolve todas as composições, lapidando-as como uma joia valiosa.

É muito difícil apontar músicas como sendo as melhores, já que “Death Devil Magick” é um álbum com um altíssimo nível de qualidade. Muito bem composto e equilibrado. Mas mesmo assim ainda conseguimos filtrar aquelas composições que soam grandiosas aos nossos ouvidos e depois de ouvir esse novo trabalho algumas vezes posso afirmar que as que se tornaram especiais foram “Devil” (belíssimas melodias e mudanças rítmicas para partes mais maléficas), a selvageria de “Fury” é devastadora, assim como o ritualismo bárbaro de “Death”. Finalmente a faixa que encerra esse álbum é um dos seus pontos altos. A climática “Magick” é realmente uma música poderosa.

Esse é um trabalho que irá agradar aos fãs da banda e certamente cairá nas graças dos que não os conhecem mas apreciam o metal negro feito com classe, qualidade e poder.

SERVANT is a band from the Lower Saxony region of Germany and has had a career that, although short, has been very productive. The first demo tape was released in 2021 and now, next month, the group will be releasing their third official album entitled “Death Devil Magick”.

“Death Devil Magick” is an album that very naturally mixes elements of old-school black metal with the more current approach to the style, which is very present in bands like Uada, MGLA, Gaerea and Wayfarer. I think this sound has given us a truly incredible album. All the songs (there are 9 in total, including an intro) use and abuse catchy melodies, sharp riffs, drums that can go from more restrained moments to pure speed. The vocals are really good and I include in this analysis the quality shown in the way these vocals are placed within the compositions.

There are moments when more lugubrious and ethereal atmospheres are present and this gives an extra spice to the group’s proposal. Something I really liked was the way they used melodies in their riffs. It somehow reminds me of Dissection and even Dimmu Borgir in their “Enthrone Darkness Triumphant”. There is a class that surrounds all the compositions, polishing them like a valuable jewel.

It’s very difficult to pinpoint the best songs, as “Death Devil Magick” is an album of the highest quality. Very well composed and balanced. But even so, we can still filter out those compositions that sound great to our ears and after listening to this new work a few times I can say that the ones that have become special are “Devil” (beautiful melodies and rhythmic changes to more evil parts), the savagery of “Fury” is devastating, as is the barbaric ritualism of “Death”. Finally, the album’s closing track is one of its highlights. The climatic “Magick” is a truly powerful song.

This is a work that will please fans of the band and will certainly appeal to those who don’t know them but appreciate black metal made with class, quality and power.
