CRYPTWORM – Oozing Radioactive Vomition (CD 2023)

Ouvir bandas como o CRYPTOWORM é um prazer inenarrável para os meus ouvidos. Eu sempre apreciei demais a sonoridade que esses caras abraçaram e fazem com uma competência ímpar. Eu me refiro a aquele death metal pútrido, com influências do splatter e com uma dose muito balanceada de groove em meio a toda a imundície que é espalhada pelo recinto. A banda foi formada há uma década atrás e após uma demo, dois EPs e um split, finalmente chegou ao debut álbum em 2022. O material foi intitulado “Spewing Mephitic Putridity”.

Já o novo álbum é intitulado “Oozing Radioactive Vomition” e foi lançado há poucas semanas atrás. A banda acertou em cheio na sua pegada. O álbum tem peso, é extremamente bem tocado e apesar de ter achado o som da bateria meio “magro”, ele se encaixa na proposta.

Acredito que, como base de referência, citar influências como Carcass (old), General Surgery, Medical Count Examiners… Com essa bússola, fica evidente que a música do CRYPTWORM foi feita para te fazer passar muito mal. O odor nauseabundo é contagiante, o chorume escorre pelos auto falantes e as paredes tremem.

Não é preciso um álbum enorme para impressionar. Se você oferece o produto certo, uma embalagem menor vai ter um efeito mais contundente. “Oozing Radioactive Vomition” tem apenas seis composições e isso basta.

A faixa de abertura é também a faixa título e já desde os primeiros momentos deixa muito claro que caminho vai seguir em sua busca pela perpetuação da carnificina. O groove é mortal, vocais imundos, linhas de guitarra secas, mas com um toque de classe. Cara, isso é agradável demais aos ouvidos (se é que me permitem usar o termo agradável a algo feito de forma tão desgraçada hahaha).

Mais ríspida e grotesca é “Organ Snatcher”, um música um pouco mais longa, mas que joga montes e montes de esterco na sua cara sem pensar duas vezes. “Miasmatic Foetid Odour” é um mergulho em um pântano de caos musical. Não tão brutal, mas que vai crescendo em violência e sede de sangue.

“Necrophagous (Postmortal Devourment)” é uma das que mais curti. Os arranjos são perfeitos para a proposta sonora mais do que depravada do grupo. Isso é puro miasma sonoro. Um puro hino de abominações transformadas em metal da morte.

Impossível ouvir “Engulfed by Gurgling” e não imaginar o pessoal abrindo uma roda de porrada em meio ao caos de um show do CRYPTWORM. A bateria dita a regra e o ritmo nessa faixa cheia de groove nauseabundo. E cerrando a tapa do recipiente de lixo tóxico, “Submerged into Vile Repugnance”, cria uma ritmo mais lento, mais denso e ainda assim totalmente vil. É uma introdução apropriada para a pancadaria que vem na sequência.

O som desses ingleses (sim, a banda é do Reino Unido) não oferece nada de novo, mas que se foda, isso aqui é bom demais. Capa e som totalmente compatíveis com baldes de dejetos e o CRYPTWORM fecha o ano de 2023 com um puta álbum. Infelizmente não ouvi antes, senão estaria na minha lista de melhores do ano passado. Imundícies como essa nunca são demais.

Listening to bands like CRYPTOWORM is an unspeakable pleasure for my ears. I’ve always appreciated the sound these guys have embraced and do with unrivalled competence. I’m referring to that putrid death metal, with splatter influences and a very balanced dose of groove amidst all the filth that is spread around the venue. The band was formed a decade ago and after a demo, two EPs and a split, they finally released their debut album in 2022. The material was entitled “Spewing Mephitic Putridity”.

The new album is entitled “Oozing Radioactive Vomition” and was released a few weeks ago. The band has hit the nail on the head. The album has weight, is extremely well played and although I found the drumming a bit “thin”, it fits the bill.

I believe that, as a reference base, you could cite influences such as Carcass (old), General Surgery, Medical Count Examiners… With this compass, it’s clear that CRYPTWORM’s music is designed to make you very ill. The nauseating odour is contagious, the slurry drips from the speakers and the walls shake.

You don’t need a huge album to impress. If you offer the right product, a smaller package will have a more powerful effect. “Oozing Radioactive Vomition” has just six compositions and that’s enough.

The opening track is also the title track and from the very first moments it makes it very clear which path it will follow in its quest to perpetuate the carnage. The groove is deadly, the vocals filthy, the guitar lines dry, but with a touch of class. Man, this is so pleasing to the ear (if I may use the term pleasing to something done in such a disgraceful way hahaha).

More harsh and grotesque is “Organ Snatcher”, a slightly longer song, but one that throws lots and lots of dung in your face without a second thought. “Miasmatic Foetid Odour” is a plunge into a swamp of musical chaos. Not so brutal, but growing in violence and bloodlust.

“Necrophagous (Postmortal Devourment)” is one of my favourites. The arrangements are perfect for the group’s more than depraved sound. This is pure sonic miasma. A pure hymn of abominations transformed into death metal.

It’s impossible to listen to “Engulfed by Gurgling” and not imagine the crowd opening up a round of fisticuffs amidst the chaos of a CRYPTWORM concert. The drums dictate the rules and the rhythm in this track full of nauseating groove. And clenching the lid of the toxic waste container, “Submerged into Vile Repugnance” creates a slower, denser and yet totally vile rhythm. It’s a fitting introduction to the thrashing that follows.

The sound of these Englishmen (yes, the band is from the UK) doesn’t offer anything new, but fuck it, this is too good. Cover and sound totally compatible with buckets of rubbish and CRYPTWORM closes the year 2023 with one hell of an album. Unfortunately I didn’t hear it before, otherwise it would have been on my list of last year’s best. You can never have too much filth like this.
