Existem álbum que são bons e que te chamam atenção logo na primeira audição, mas existem alguns álbuns que te atingem como uma marreta desde o primeiro acorde. Conheci o VOID há cerca de três semanas durante minhas jornadas aleatórias pelo Youtube. Ao me deparar com um vídeo da banda resolvi assistir e conferir. A banda chutou meu traseiro no primeiro riff. hahahaha Havia ali uma quantidade absurda de musicalidade, qualidade de composição e soava heavy metal até os ossos.
Talvez seja por essa aspecto que “Forbidden Morals” me impressionou tanto. Por soar com um daqueles álbuns clássicos de metal que você vai lembrar por décadas. O VOID poderia facilmente ser confundido com alguma banda clássica do speed/thrash/heavy metal dos anos 80.
Mas tudo vai além de apenas mimetizar uma época e uma sonoridade. Há uma modernidade sempre presente no som, mas sem soas “modernoso”, que é algo que eu pessoalmente odeio em uma parcela da cena metal atual. Chame-me de velho ou algo assim, mas não quando não há conexão com a música não adianta vir com argumentação. Música é algo que você gosta ou não.
“Forbidden Morals” é um álbum de metal matador. Grandes riffs de guitarra, vocais insanos e de uma qualidade enorme. Os solos de guitarra soam magníficos e tocados com uma técnica apuradíssima. A bateria e baixo constroem uma complexa linha rítmica. Tudo composto de forma a criar uma música intensa, técnica, com melodia e virtuosismo quando necessário.
Como uma forma de situar quem está lendo o review, musicalmente o VOID traz uma enorme gama de influências e é difícil pensar em apenas uma. Annihilator (dos primeiros álbuns), Forbidden, Vio-lence, Coroner, entre outras. É agressivo quando necessário, mas altamente técnico e melódico em outros momentos. Quando você ouve os primeiros acordes de “Forbidden Morals” tudo explode em intensidade, com um thrash metal direto e técnico. Os vocais de Jackson Davenport são absolutamente perfeitos para o som que a banda faz.
Gabe LeJeune e Chris Braune são duas bestas nas seis cordas. Grandes riffs, criatividade, grandes solos de guitarra. Você percebe como essa parceria funciona em faixas como “Judas Cradle”, uma das melhor músicas do álbum. Em “Apparition” está um dos solos que mais gostei. O som que sai dessa guitarra durante o solo é incrível.
Outra música que coloca o nível lá em cima é “Return of the Phantom”, que em seu início lembra demais o Forbidden. É muito raro ouvir bandas com essa pegada hoje em dia. Mais uma vez as guitarras jogam gasolina na fogueira… Música para se ouvir várias vezes….
Músicas longas podem ser uma armadilha, mas “Beneath…Lives the Impaler” consegue escapar disso e se desenvolve bem durante seus mais de 10 minutos, tudo acontece com naturalidade. Apesar de momentos mais diretos, a música é bastante complexa na sua execução.
Não tenho a menor dúvida de que “Forbidden Morals” é um álbum que estra direto para a minha lista de melhores do ano. O VOID mostra que o metal está mais vivo do nunca ! Tomara que esse álbum seja lançado no Brasil o quanto antes. Grande álbum e grande banda !!!

There are albums that are good and catch your attention right away on first listen, but there are some albums that hit you like a sledgehammer from the very first chord. I discovered VOID about three weeks ago during my random journeys through YouTube. When I came across a video of the band, I decided to watch it and check them out. The band kicked my ass on the first riff. Hahahaha There was an absurd amount of musicality, quality of composition, and it sounded heavy metal to the core.
Perhaps that’s why “Forbidden Morals” impressed me so much. Because it sounds like one of those classic metal albums that you’ll remember for decades. VOID could easily be mistaken for some classic speed/thrash/heavy metal band from the 80s.
But it goes beyond just mimicking an era and a sound. There is a modernity that is always present in the sound, but without sounding “trendy,” which is something I personally hate in a portion of the current metal scene. Call me old or something, but when there is no connection with the music, there is no point in arguing. Music is something you either like or you don’t.
“Forbidden Morals” is a killer metal album. Great guitar riffs, insane vocals, and tremendous quality. The guitar solos sound magnificent and are played with exquisite technique. The drums and bass build a complex rhythmic line. Everything is composed in such a way as to create intense, technical music, with melody and virtuosity when necessary.
To give readers of this review some context, musically VOID brings a huge range of influences and it’s hard to think of just one. Annihilator (from the early albums), Forbidden, Vio-lence, Coroner, among others. It’s aggressive when necessary, but highly technical and melodic at other times. When you hear the first chords of “Forbidden Morals”, everything explodes in intensity, with direct and technical thrash metal. Jackson Davenport’s vocals are absolutely perfect for the band’s sound.
Gabe LeJeune and Chris Braune are two beasts on the six strings. Great riffs, creativity, great guitar solos. You can see how well this partnership works on tracks like “Judas Cradle”, one of the best songs on the album. “Apparition” has one of my favorite solos. The sound that comes out of that guitar during the solo is incredible.
Another song that raises the bar is “Return of the Phantom”, which in its beginning is very reminiscent of Forbidden. It’s very rare to hear bands with this vibe nowadays. Once again, the guitars add fuel to the fire… Music to listen to over and over again….
Long songs can be a trap, but “Beneath…Lives the Impaler” manages to escape this and develops well during its more than 10 minutes, everything happening naturally. Despite some more straightforward moments, the song is quite complex in its execution.
I have no doubt that “Forbidden Morals” is an album that goes straight to my list of the best of the year. VOID shows that metal is more alive than ever! I hope this album is released in Brazil as soon as possible. Great album and great band!!!
