Os londrinos do VACUOUS ocuparam-se, durante o ano de propagação da peste moderna (2020), lançando sua primeira demo e um EP de nome “Katabasis”, ambos recebidos com entusiasmo no underground global do Death Metal (especialmente este último).
No ano seguinte, gravaram uma apresentação ao vivo com cinco músicas em Leeds (Inglaterra), e lançaram o material em edição limitadíssima, exclusivamente em fitas cassete.
O jovem quinteto desenvolve uma espécie muito particular de Death Metal, unindo com personalidade características da velha escola, traços marcantes do Death Doom e prestando especial atenção à criação de atmosferas dementes, perturbadoras e maléficas.
Tal caldeirão resulta em uma sonoridade inquietante e pavorosa (no melhor sentido possível), de pesadelo febril e constante, típico das mais transtornadas mentes humanas.
O aguardado álbum completo materializou-se, enfim, e será lançado em 18 de outubro internacionalmente. Adequadamente intitulado “Dreams of Dysphoria”, o trabalho será disponibilizado em Vinil pelo selo britânico “Me Saco Un Ojo Records”, e em CDs pelo norte-americano “Dark Descent Records”.
A abertura do álbum com “Devotion” convida o ouvinte a um tour por uma psique desequilibrada. O que poderia ser meramente uma intro atmosférica, torna-se uma faixa potente de Death Doom, pútrido e arrastado. De cara, destacam-se os vocais excelentes, o instrumental impecável, de riffs assassinos e percussão criativa e impiedosa, além da atmosfera de horror.
Há ótimo equilíbrio no andamento da obra, com faixas velozes e brutais como “Body of Punishment”, que se transforma radicalmente em sua seção final. “Matriarchal Blood” é outra peça brutal e totalmente viciante, que apresenta trabalho brilhante de guitarras e bateria.
Talvez o maior destaque individual, “Paranoia Rites” soa imponente, matadora. Aula de extremismo de ponta a ponta, com variações muito bem sacadas. A tensão e a insanidade seguem intactas com “Stigmata Scourge”.
A instrumental “Lucid (Interlude)” injeta sutileza ao arsenal, abrindo caminho para a faixa título, que encerra o disco em altíssimo nível. Riffs monumentais e irresistíveis convertem o ritmo médio em caos total, transtornando o psicológico do ouvinte, e deixando-o com um sorriso maníaco na cara.
Excelente trabalho de estreia do VACUOUS. Compacto, com apenas trinta e dois minutos, faz valer cada segundo e passa voando. Formação pronta para representar o que há de melhor no Death Metal britânico. Altamente recomendo aos fãs de AUTOPSY (EUA), CRUCIAMENTUM (GBR), GRAVE MIASMA (GBR), BOLT THROWER (GBR), DISMA (EUA), CORPSESSED (FIN), BØLZER (SUI).

Young Londoners behind VACUOUS kept themselves busy during the year of the modern plague’s dissemination (2020), releasing their first demo and the “Katabasis” EP, both enthusiastically received in the global death metal underground (especially the latter).
The following year, they recorded a five-song live performance in Leeds (England), and released such material under a strictly limited edition, exclusively on cassette tapes.
The quintet develops a very particular brand of Death Metal, uniting with personality old school traits, striking elements of Death Doom and paying special attention to creating demented, disturbing and evil atmospheres.
Such cauldron releases miasmic fumes, and results in a disquieting and terrifying, one of a feverish and never-ending nightmare, typical of the most disturbed human minds.
The long-awaited full-length album has finally materialized and will be released on October 18th internationally. Aptly titled “Dreams of Dysphoria”, the record will be made available on Vinyl by the British label “Me Saco Un Ojo Records”, and on CDs by North American “Dark Descent Records”.
The album’s opening with “Devotion” invites the listener to a tour into an unhinged psyche. What could merely be an atmospheric intro becomes a striking Death Doom track, putrid and sluggish. Right off the bat, the excellent vocals, impeccable instrumentals with killer riffs and creative, pounding percussion stand out, in addition to the well-crafted eerie atmosphere.
“Dreams of Dysphoria” is a well-balanced record, presenting fast and brutal tracks like “Body of Punishment”, which radically metamorphoses in its final section. “Matriarchal Blood” is another brutal and utterly addictive piece, which features brilliant guitar and drum work.
Perhaps the single biggest standout, “Paranoia Rites” sounds towering, killer indeed. It’s a masterclass in extremism, packed with variations. The high levels of tension and insanity remain intact with following “Stigmata Scourge”.
The instrumental “Lucid (Interlude)” adds subtlety into the arsenal, clearing the way for the title track, which brightly closes the album. Monumental, irresistible riffs convert the midpaced rhythm into full chaos, upsetting the listener’s mind, and leaving him with a maniacal smile on his face.
Excellent debut full-length by VACUOUS. Compact with only thirty-two minutes, it makes every second count and flies by. A formation ready to represent the best of British Death Metal. Highly recommended for fans of AUTOPSY (USA), CRUCIAMENTUM (GBR), GRAVE MIASMA (GBR), BOLT THROWER (GBR), DISMA (US), CORPSESSED (FIN), BØLZER (SUI).
