MORBIFIC – Squirm Beyond the Mortal Realm (ADV. CD 2022)

 Ano passado, os fãs de Death Metal foram presenteados com um ótimo número de lançamentos acima da média. Um dos melhores da safra 2021 foi o álbum de estreia do MORBIFIC, “Ominous Seep of Putridity”. Os colecionadores brasileiros foram agraciados, inclusive, com uma versão nacional matadora da “Old Shadows Records”.

 Desde o sucesso do petardo de estreia, o jovem trio finlandês manteve-se ativo em ritmo intenso, e esse ano já houve o registo de um Split EP com os veteranos japoneses do ANATOMIA. Celebrando um ano extremamente positivo, o MORBIFIC lançará em outubro o seu sucessor “Squirm Beyond the Mortal Realm”.

 O novo álbum sairá na gringa em esforço conjunto entre os tradicionais selos “Memento Mori” (CDs) e “Me Saco Un Ojo Records” (Vinil). Na América do Norte, a “Headsplit Records” estará encarregada dos discos de vinil e fitas cassete.

 Felizmente, a letalidade do Death Metal composto e executado pelos finlandeses permanece absolutamente intacto. De fato, vale afirmar que o novo registro apresenta evolução e amadurecimento musical do trio.

 A faixa de abertura divide o título com o disco, e “Squirm Beyond the Mortal Realm” abre com efeitos sonoros etéreos que se dissipam rapidamente, dando lugar às guitarras imensas e graves e à pancadaria da percussão. Impressiona como esses caras têm classe pra criar riffs memoráveis e, ao mesmo tempo, podres. Início perfeito com rifferama implacável, leads e solos espertos e os vocais monstruosos, muito bem postados.

 A máquina segue azeitada em “Bind, Torture, Snuff”, ora veloz ora cadenciada, com segmentos certamente criados para induzir ao headbanging nonstop nas apresentações ao vivo. Ainda mais agressiva é a seguinte “Meal from an Open Skull”, que atinge velocidades absurdas e conta com as partes mais brutais da obra. São três minutos absurdamente intensos.

 Em contraste, temos a extensa “Suicide Sanctum”. Igualmente matadora, explora seus quase sete minutos com frieza e desfila riffs descomunais, quase todos lentos, venenosos e certeiros. O entrosamento do trio salta aos ouvidos, mas é preciso destacar o trampo surreal de guitarras do “Olli Väkeväinen”.

 Pausa na insanidade para a instrumental “Initiation into Oblivion”, que dá uma quebrada forte no ritmo. O que se segue é bagaceira da melhor qualidade com a saborosa “Meth Mansion Murders”. Curta, bem variada, fantástica.

 A nojeira reina gloriosa em “Baptized in the Fluids of Decay”, e os falantes beiram a explosão, tamanho extremismo. Empolgante e ignorante, principalmente em sua reta final. Quer mais riffs explosivos e afiadíssimos? “Pathogenic Injection” é um festival deles. As acelerações são sempre divertidas, mas pra mim, os momentos cadenciados e mortíferos Doom Metal são imbatíveis.

 Outra faixa curta, direta ao ponto e extremamente divertida é a carniceira “The Head Harvest”. Aqui, a banda ataca o ouvinte com a voracidade de um predador faminto, desmembrando e despedaçando sua presa. A conclusão se dá com a pesadíssima “Malignant Germination”, que oscila inteligentemente mas firma-se, primordialmente, nos segmentos mais lentos.

 Excepcional segundo álbum de estúdio do MORBIFIC. A banda fez muito bem em aproveitar o momento criativo e seu entrosamento para entregar um sucessor ainda mais feroz e punitivo. Certamente, um dos melhores álbuns de Death Metal do ano. Obrigatório aos fãs de AUTOPSY (EUA), GRAVE (SUE), UNDERGANG (DIN), ANATOMIA (JAP), PURTENANCE (FIN), CONVULSE (FIN), MORTIFERUM (EUA).

Last year, Death Metal fans were treated to a great number of quality releases. One of the best of the 2021 crop was MORBIFIC’s debut album, “Ominous Seep of Putridity”. Brazilian fans and collectors were even graced with a killer national version, courtesy of “Old Shadows Records”.

 Since the successful debut full-length, the young Finnish trio has remained active at an intense pace, and this year has already witnessed the recording of a Split EP with Japanese veterans ANATOMIA. Celebrating an extremely positive year, MORBIFIC is about to put out its successor “Squirm Beyond the Mortal Realm” in late October.

 The new album will be released internationally as a joint effort between traditional labels “Memento Mori” (CDs) and “Me Saco Un Ojo Records” (Vinyl). In North America, “Headsplit Records” will oversee the vinyl records and cassette tapes.

 Fortunately, the lethality of the Death Metal composed and performed by the Finns remains intact. In fact, it is worth saying that the new record presents musical evolution and maturation.

 The opening track shares title with the Opus, and “Squirm Beyond the Mortal Realm” kicks-off with ethereal sound effects that quickly dissipate, giving way to massive, abusive guitars and oppressive percussion. It’s amazing how classy these gents are, when crafting memorable yet rotten riffs at the same time. A perfect beginning with relentless riffage, smart leads and solos and abysmal vocals.

 The machine is well oiled in “Bind, Torture, Snuff”, sometimes fast and sometimes cadenced, with sections certainly produced to induce nonstop headbanging during live performances. Even more aggressive is the following “Meal from an Open Skull”, reaching absurd speed and displaying the most brutal parts of the record during absurdly intense three minutes.

 In contrast, we have the lengthy “Suicide Sanctum”. Equally killer, it explores its almost seven minutes with deep coldness, parading gargantuan riffs, most of them slow, poisonous, and accurate. The trio’s chemistry is remarkable, and a natural highlight is the surreal guitar work by “Olli Väkeväinen”.

 Instrumental “Initiation into Oblivion” strongly breaks the insane pace. What follows is top-tier dementia with the tasty “Meth Mansion Murders”. Short, well-balanced, fantastic.

 Filth gloriously reigns when “Baptized in the Fluids of Decay” hits, and speakers clearly sound on the verge of explosion, such is the extremism. Exciting and ignorant, especially in its final stretch. Feel like more explosive, razor-sharp riffs? “Pathogenic Injection” is a true festival. Accelerations are always fun, but to me, the slower and deadly Doom Metal moments are unbeatable.

 Another short, straight to the point and extremely fun track is “The Head Harvest”. Here, the band attacks the listener with the voracity of a hungry predator, dismembering and tearing apart its prey. Conclusion comes with massive “Malignant Germination”, which intelligently oscillates, but mainly establishes itself in doomier, darker segments.

 An exceptional second MORBIFIC studio album. The band did a great job taking advantage of their creative moment and chemistry, to deliver an even more ferocious, catchy, and punishing successor. Certainly, one of the best Death Metal albums of the year. A must for fans of AUTOPSY (US), GRAVE (SUE), UNDERGANG (DIN), ANATOMY (JAP), PURTENANCE (FIN), CONVULSE (FIN), MORTIFERUM (US).
