SKELETAL REMAINS – Fragments of the Ageless (CD 2024)

Muitos usam a palavra evolução para esconder a queda de sua criatividade ou até mesmo a decadência de sua própria arte, mas quando a evolução se coloca como uma verdadeira aliada da música de uma banda, as coisas se tornam sérias… muito sérias. O SKELETAL REMAINS está falando muito sério com seu novo trabalho.

“Fragments of the Ageless” é, sem dúvida alguma, o melhor álbum desse grupo norte-americano. Sendo o seu quinto álbum de estúdio, era de se esperar que houvesse alguma diminuição da intensidade de tudo, mas o que eu tenho aqui em mãos é exatamente o contrário disso.

A banda não tem medo algum de abraçar suas origens e suas influências, que passam pelo death metal americano e por alguns nomes do death metal europeu. “Fragments of the Ageless” é brutal, técnico, ríspido, possui classe e tudo se conecta por uma banda que é como um relógio suíço.

O que mais me chamou a atenção nesse novo lançamento foi o nível absurdo dos riffs e bases de guitarra. O que já era muito poderoso se tornou uma hecatombe. Em todas as músicas as guitarras ditam as regras e regem uma orquestra de puro caos.

O que Mike de La O e Chris Monroy fizeram com seus instrumentos me trouxe à mente o que Luc Lemay e Sylvain Marcoux fizeram nos dois primeiros álbuns do Gorguts. As partes de guitarra são intrincadas, mas ainda assim são cativantes e cortantes. Não preciso nem falar dos solos de guitarra. Alguns são mais selvagens e “fora de controle”, outros melódicos e cheios de feeling. Mas em ambas as situações o resultado final é incrível.

Se fosse possível unir Gorguts, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Sinister e Malevolent Creation em um só grupo, o resultado poderia ser algo parecido ao que o SKELETAL REMAINS tem feito.

O novo trabalho traz uma arte de capa old school e uma produção de estúdio perfeita. Tudo soa absurdamente pesado e bem definido, deixando a experiência de perceber todos os detalhes do álbum ainda mais gratificante. E se há algo que pode ser afirmado sem medo de errar, é que esse novo trabalho da banda tem um nível absurdo de detalhes, arranjos, passagens entre as partes das músicas.

As músicas que resolvi destacar nesse novo trabalho são: “Repentless Appetite” (uma faixa de abertura que te atinge em cheio e que cartão de visitas para qualquer um), “To Conquer the Devout”, “Verminous Embodiment”, a destruidora “Void of Despair” (uma das minhas favoritas), “…Evocation (The Rebirth)” e o soco direto de “Messiah or Rage”.

Felizmente o selo brasileiro Kill Again resolveu, mais uma vez, trazer sua versão nacional para um álbum do SKELETAL REMAINS, facilitando a vida dos death metal maníacos que gostaria de ter esse álbum em sua coleção.

Um álbum mais do que obrigatório !

Many people use the word evolution to hide the decline of their creativity or even the decay of their own art, but when evolution becomes a true ally of a band’s music, things become serious… very serious. SKELETAL REMAINS are very serious about their new work.

“Fragments of the Ageless” is undoubtedly the best album from this North American group. As this is their fifth studio album, you’d expect everything to be a little less intense, but what I have here is exactly the opposite.

The band is not afraid to embrace its origins and influences, which include American death metal and some European death metal. “Fragments of the Ageless” is brutal, technical, harsh, classy and all connected by a band that is like a Swiss watch.

What struck me most about this new release was the absurd level of the riffs and guitar bases. What was already very powerful became a hecatomb. In every song the guitars dictate the rules and govern an orchestra of pure chaos.

What Mike de La O and Chris Monroy did with their instruments brought to mind what Luc Lemay and Sylvain Marcoux did on the first two Gorguts albums. The guitar parts are intricate, but they’re still catchy and cutting. I don’t even need to talk about the guitar solos. Some are more wild and “out of control”, others melodic and full of feeling. But in both situations the end result is incredible.

If it were possible to unite Gorguts, Deicide, Morbid Angel, Sinister and Malevolent Creation in a single group, the result could be something similar to what SKELETAL REMAINS has done.

The new album features old school cover art and perfect studio production. Everything sounds absurdly heavy and well-defined, making the experience of realising every detail of the album even more rewarding. And if there’s one thing that can be said without fear of being wrong, it’s that this new work by the band has an absurd level of detail, arrangements and passages between parts of the songs.

The songs I’ve decided to highlight from this new work are: “Repentless Appetite” (an opening track that hits you hard and is a calling card for anyone), “To Conquer the Devout”, “Verminous Embodiment”, the destructive “Void of Despair” (one of my favourites), “…Evocation (The Rebirth)” and the direct punch of “Messiah or Rage”.

Fortunately, the Brazilian label Kill Again has once again decided to bring out its national version of a SKELETAL REMAINS album, making life easier for death metal maniacs who would like to have this album in their collection.

A must-have album!
