SACRIFICE – Volume Six (CD 2025)

Existem duas bandas canadenses que eu sempre tive em minha lista das favoritas de todos os tempos. Uma é o Razor e a outra é o SACRIFICE. Ter tido a chance de ver a banda ao vivo em 2014 foi uma experiência incrível. Ao vivo tudo soava tão brutal e cheio de energia quanto a banda mostrava em seus álbuns clássicos e naquelas velhas fitas VHS cheias de shows gravados com câmeras amadoras, mas que serviam para matar a vontade dos fãs que moravam a anos-luz de distância.

“Volume Six” é o primeiro álbum do SACRIFICE desde “The Ones I Condemn”, lançado em 2009, ou seja, 16 anos atrás e a espera, apesar de indesejável, valeu a pena, pois esse novo trabalho é, na minha opinião, o melhor álbum da banda desde o clássico absoluto “Soldiers of Misfortune”. Já vinha acompanhando vários comentários dos fãs que já haviam recebido o álbum e não vi um único comentário depreciativo em qualquer nível. Isso aumentou a minha vontade de ouvir o sexto álbum desses veteranos canadenses.

Hoje finalmente pude colocar minhas mãos no álbum e fui prontamente atropelado por um trabalho digno da história dos caras. O thrash metal característicos da banda estava lá em seu estado puro. Duvida ? Ouça “Missile”. Os riffs dessa música seriam capazes de arrancar telhados de casas, tamanho o peso dessa composição. Os caras não perderam a sua mágica. As mudanças de ritmo, o trabalho perfeito da bateria e os vocais que não mudaram nada desde os álbuns clássicos da banda.

Você pensa que talvez os caras vão pisar no freio, ir mais devagar, mas quando o álbum começa com “Comatose” tudo se desfaz em caos. Música absolutamente extrema, riffs matadores, bateria martelando sem nenhuma piedade. Isso é como o thrash metal deve soar. Na mesma pegada vem a não menos apocalíptica “We Will Not Survive”, que eu posso afirmar com toda a certeza, vai colocar os headbangers presentes nos shows o SACRIFICE para sangrar suas cabeças na frente do palco.

Mais peso ? Claro que tem. “Antidote of Poison” já começa atirando para todos os lados com um peso descomunal, arranjos que te fazer reconhecer imediatamente quem está por trás dessa música. Em seus momentos finais a energia sísmica é liberada e tudo vai na velocidade da luz. “Underneath Milennia” é a música que vai mais devagar, investe nas camadas musicais e arranjos cheios de feeling, mas ainda assim muito pesados.

“Your Hunger for War” tem um riff principal que soa quase como death metal em meio a palhetadas incendiárias e uma vocalização que joga mais combustível nas chamas. Tudo se mantém inabalável com “Incoming Mass Extinction”, mas há partes aqui em que não haverá esperança para os seus pescoços. “Explode” merece esse título. Tudo explode ao seu redor com o impacto dessa composição. Solos insanos e precisos. Nos momentos mais lentos é que você percebe o quanto a produção desse novo álbum deixou a música pesada. A qualidade é incrível.

A música que mais difere do resto do álbum é a surpreendente “Black Hashish”. Há muito feeling envolvido e até mesmo uma influência do Death em sua essência. Mais rápida e até mais punk é “Trapped in a World”, cover da banda Direct Action, que ficou excelente e fechou “Volume Six”. Não mudaria nada nesse novo trabalho do SACRIFICE. Espero que algum selo nacional o lance no Brasil.
Como disse anteriormente, a espera valeu a pena. “Volume Six” já entra direto na lista dos melhores álbuns do ano… Não consigo parar de ouvi-lo.

There are two Canadian bands that I’ve always had on my list of all-time favorites. One is Razor and the other is SACRIFICE. Having the chance to see the band live in 2014 was an incredible experience. Live, everything sounded as brutal and full of energy as the band showed on their classic albums and on those old VHS tapes full of shows recorded with amateur cameras, but which served to satisfy the cravings of fans who lived light years away.

“Volume Six” is SACRIFICE‘s first album since ‘The Ones I Condemn’, released in 2009, i.e. 15 years ago and the wait, although undesirable, was worth it, as this new work is, in my opinion, the band’s best album since the absolute classic ‘Soldiers of Misfortune’. I had been following various comments from fans who had already received the album and I didn’t see a single derogatory comment on any level. This increased my desire to hear the sixth album from these Canadian veterans.

Today I was finally able to get my hands on the album and was promptly blown away by a work worthy of the guys’ history. The band’s characteristic thrash metal was there in its purest state. Do you doubt it? Listen to “Missile”. The riffs on this song could tear roofs off houses, the weight of the composition. The guys haven’t lost their magic. The changes of pace, the perfect drum work and the vocals that haven’t changed a bit since the band’s classic albums.

You think that maybe the guys are going to put the brakes on, go slower, but when the album starts with “Comatose” everything breaks down into chaos. Absolutely extreme music, killer riffs, pounding drums with no mercy. This is what thrash metal should sound like. In the same vein comes the no less apocalyptic “We Will Not Survive”, which I can tell you for sure will make the headbangers at SACRIFICE shows bleed their heads off in front of the stage.

More weight? Of course there is. “Antidote of Poison” kicks off with an unbelievable heaviness and arrangements that make you immediately recognize who’s behind the song. In its final moments, seismic energy is released and everything goes at the speed of light. “Underneath Milennia” is the song that goes slower, investing in musical layers and arrangements full of feeling, but still very heavy.

“Your Hunger for War” has a main riff that sounds almost like death metal amid incendiary picking and a vocal that adds fuel to the flames. Everything remains unshakable with “Incoming Mass Extinction”, but there are parts here where there will be no hope for your necks. “Explode” deserves that title. Everything explodes around you with the impact of this composition. Insane and precise solos. It’s in the slower moments that you realize how heavy the production of this new album has made the music. The quality is incredible.

The song that differs most from the rest of the album is the surprising “Black Hashish”. There’s a lot of feeling involved and even a Death influence at its core. Faster and even more punk is “Trapped in a World”, a cover by the band Direct Action, which was excellent and closed “Volume Six”. I wouldn’t change a thing about this new SACRIFICE album. I hope some national label releases it in Brazil.
As I said before, it was worth the wait. “Volume Six” is already on the list of the best albums of the year… I can’t stop listening to it.
