RAVENOIR – Cultus Inferi (Adv. CD 2023)

Depois de dois excelentes álbuns oficiais, “The Darkest Flame of Eternal Blasphemy” (2021) e “In the Woumb of Sin” (2022), o RAVENOIR retorna com seu terceiro e melhor álbum até o momento.
“Cultus Inferi” coloca a música da banda em um patamar superior em relação aos trabalhos anteriores e a qualidade apresentada em cada composição e arranjos é realmente um ponto a ser destacado.

“Cultus Inferi” traz um banda que investe muito mais do feeling de suas músicas do que propriamente em velocidade. A atmosfera criada em cada uma das oito músicas que compõem esse novo trabalho é envolvente e fria como gelo. Poderia dizer que a música do RAVENOIR chegou em um nível que pode ser apontado como o momento em que a sonoridade do grupo se sobressai e cria uma identidade pessoal mais evidente.

Obviamente é impossível escapar de influências, mas essas influências estão ali como algo a somar, não apenas como um copia e cola desprovido de criatividade. Ao ouvir o álbum inteiro pude percer momentos que me lembraram do Ancient Rites, do Behemoth (em algumas bases de guitarra), do Acheron (fase Lex Talionis), há muito do doom metal também, já que as músicas são pesadíssimas e cheias de melodias mais tétricas e instrospectivas.

Há momentos mais intensos como na faixa de abertura “Glorification of Godlessness”, com um poderoso riff que dita o andamento marcial da música. Certamente é uma faixa que soará incrível ao vivo. “Black Luna” vai na direção contrária e se encolhe em uma perspectiva de pura introspecção. Os solos de guitarra são belíssimos (assim como em todo o álbum). É uma das melhores faixas desse álbum com toda a certeza.

Mais energia é liberada com a cadenciada, mas poderosa “Crow´s Call”. Na mesma estrada segue “Confession to the Darkness”, que tem linhas muito interessantes de teclados. A faixa que se segue é “Requiem”, uma experiência tribal com uma ambientação e vocalização mais profunda.

A faixa anterior cria o clima perfeito para a entrada de “Belial´s Realm”. Uma música que se torna uma viagem intimista e blasfema por reinos inferiores da percepção. Mais pesada e carregada é “Orgiastic Ceremony”, que já se inicia impactante com seu andamento de dois bumbos e um riff caótico e realmente destruidor. Minha faixa favorita desse trabalho.

Finalmente temos a inicialmente tétrica “Kingdom of Amnesia”, que em seus mais de seis minutos de duração irá te guiar por diversos círculos infernais. Mais uma vez os solos de guitarra são puro sentimento e como soam limpos e claros.

A arte da capa desse trabalho é repleta de simbologias e os detalhes são muito bonitos. O RAVENOIR conseguiu se superar nesse novo álbum e criou uma obra musical que se vale da obscura beleza dos arranjos com peso e qualidade indiscutíveis. Seria muito bom ter esse material lançado em uma versão nacional por aqui no Brasil.

After two excellent official albums, “The Darkest Flame of Eternal Blasphemy” (2021) and “In the Woumb of Sin” (2022), RAVENOIR returns with its third and best album to date. “Cultus Inferi” puts the band’s music on a higher level than previous albums and the quality presented in each composition and arrangement is truly a point to be emphasised.

“Cultus Inferi” features a band that invests much more in the feeling of its songs than in speed. The atmosphere created in each of the eight songs that make up this new work is enveloping and cold as ice. I could say that RAVENOIR‘s music has reached a level that can be described as the moment when the group’s sound stands out and creates a more evident personal identity.

Obviously it’s impossible to escape influences, but those influences are there as something to add to, not just as a copy and paste devoid of creativity. Listening to the whole album, I could see moments that reminded me of Ancient Rites, Behemoth (in some of the guitar bases), Acheron (Lex Talionis phase), and there’s a lot of doom metal too, since the songs are very heavy and full of dark, instrospective melodies.

There are more intense moments, such as the opening track “Glorification of Godlessness”, with a powerful riff that dictates the song’s martial tempo. It’s certainly a track that will sound incredible live. “Black Luna” goes in the opposite direction and shrinks into a perspective of pure introspection. The guitar solos are beautiful (as they are throughout the album). It’s one of the best tracks on the album for sure.

More energy is unleashed with the slow but powerful “Crow’s Call”. On the same road follows “Confession to the Darkness”, which has very interesting keyboard lines. The next track is “Requiem”, a tribal experience with a deeper ambience and vocalisation.

The previous track sets the perfect mood for the entrance of “Belial’s Realm”. A song that becomes an intimate and blasphemous journey through the lower realms of perception. Heavier and more charged is “Orgiastic Ceremony”, which starts off with an impact with its double bass and a chaotic, truly destructive riff. My favourite track on this album.

Finally we have the initially tetchy “Kingdom of Amnesia”, which in its more than six minutes will take you through several circles of hell. Once again, the guitar solos are pure feeling and sound clean and clear.

The cover art is full of symbolism and the details are beautiful. RAVENOIR have outdone themselves on this new album and created a musical work that uses the obscure beauty of the arrangements with undeniable weight and quality. It would be great to have this material released in a national version here in Brazil.
