O POWER FROM HELL não pode ser considerado, atualmente, apenas mais uma banda Brasileira dentre as tantas praticantes de Black Metal. A formação originada em Guarulhos, São Paulo, no ano de 2001 (até então, um projeto paralelo ao ANARKHON), adquiriu status Cult internacional, uma verdadeira instituição nacional do Metal Extremo.
Seu primeiro disco de estúdio “The True Metal” lançado em 2004 é um clássico do underground mundial, e abriu caminho para mais cinco álbuns de estúdio, intercalados por EPs, Compilações e um Split, lapidando uma discografia altamente respeitável.
Três anos após “Profound Evil Presence”, o quarteto retornou ao estúdio para registrar o seu sétimo álbum, com lançamento oficial em 30/09/22. O poderoso “Shadows Devouring Light” será lançado mundo afora pela gravadora francesa “Debemur Morti” em CDs (Digipack, com direito a uma edição limitada a apenas 100 cópias), discos de vinil e em versão digital.
Pontos extra pelo impacto inicial, conferido pela arte de capa espetacular, de cores soberbas e totalmente blasfema. Trampo fenomenal do chileno “Rodrigo Pereira Salvatierra”.
O novo trabalho coloca-se, tranquilamente, entre os melhores da banda. Sombrio, pungente, com agressividade e potência de sobra, e maldade quase palpável.
A Intro “Forsaken by the Father” é gélida, e transmite o desespero do nazareno diante do abandono à morte por seu suposto “todo-poderoso” pai. Clima criado com sucesso para uma manifestação real e aterradora do Metal Negro.
É com guitarras avassaladoras que a matadora “Silence” (contraditoriamente ao seu título) se impõe em seu início, desenvolvendo-se com ritmo acelerado, excelente percussão, riffs grotescos, vocais ríspidos no ponto e baixo explosivo. A aposta é redobrada em “The Serpent’s Earthly Throne”, criação abjeta e, ao mesmo tempo, tecnicamente refinada.
A faixa título tem início mais atmosférico, interrompido por guitarras caóticas e vocais que soam como sussurros dos mais perturbadores. O ritmo médio comanda a faixa em tom provocador, até as acelerações finais, inesperadas e muito efetivas.
“Primordial Impurity” tem pegada lenta e letal, com ótimos riffs em tremolo, linhas fudidas de baixo e percussão. O arsenal da banda, a essa altura, é muito mais vasto que nos seus primórdios, algo que essa faixa exemplifica bem demais. A guinada com aceleração aqui é monstruosa, e deixa o ouvinte sedento pelo caos e barbarismo. Fantástica.
Com o altíssimo nível do disco até aqui, não esperava por muito mais. Mas “Mother of Abominations” segue punindo e devastando tudo em seu caminho. Impossível não se contagiar com esse som. “Wings of Perdition” abre com cara de interlúdio, mas não é. Pelo contrário, engrena com velocidade, veemência e excelente técnica na condução das partes insanamente tensas, quer seja rápida ou cadenciada.
Em “Eve’s Holy Vulva” a pegada Black Thrash Marcial dá o tom, em meio a muito peso e levadas hipnóticas. Alguns dos riffs mais mortíferos formam a espinha dorsal da cativante “Adversary of Creation”. Finalizando, mais uma peça insana e blasfema com “Summoning the Abjection”.
O Sétimo álbum de estúdio do POWER FROM HELL é estupendo, maduro, bem-composto e finamente executado. Agride implacavelmente, como um ser atroz a serviço das entidades mais obscuras e perversas do submundo. Tipo de trabalho que apenas confirma a grandeza atemporal do metal extremo brasileiro, sua representatividade e influência globais desde sempre.
Imperdível aos fãs de VULCANO (BRA), SARCÓFAGO (BRA), HELLHAMMER (SUI), MIDNIGHT (EUA), VENOM (GBR), BESTIAL WARLUST (AUS), DESTROYER 666 (AUS), TOXIC HOLOCAUST (EUA).

POWER FROM HELL can’t be considered, at this point, just another Brazilian band among the many practitioners of Black Metal. The formation originated in Guarulhos, São Paulo, in 2001 (back then, a parallel project to ANARKHON), acquired international cult status, a true national institution of Extreme Metal.
Their first studio album “The True Metal” released in 2004 is a classic of the underground metal world, which paved the way for five more studio albums, interspersed with EPs, Compilations, and a Split, polishing a highly respectable discography.
Three years after “Profound Evil Presence”, the quartet returned to the studio to record their seventh album, to be officially released on 9/30/22. The powerful “Shadows Devouring Light” will be released worldwide by French label “Debemur Morti” on CDs (Digipack, including a 100- copy limited edition), vinyl records and also digitally.
Bonus points for the initial impact, thanks to the spectacular, superbly colored and downright blasphemous cover art. A phenomenal job by Chilean “Rodrigo Pereira Salvatierra”.
The new record can easily be placed among the band’s best releases. Dark, poignant, with plenty of aggression and potency, and almost palpable evil.
The Intro “Forsaken by the Father” is bone-chilling, and conveys the despair of the Nazarene in the face of abandonment and death by his supposed “almighty” father. Mood successfully created for a real and terrifying manifestation of Black Metal.
It is with overwhelming guitars that the killer “Silence” (contradictory to its title) imposes itself in its beginning, developing with fast rhythm, excellent percussion, grotesque riffs, harsh vocals and explosive bass. The bet is doubled in “The Serpent’s Earthly Throne”, an abject and technically refined creation.
The title track has a more atmospheric start, interrupted by chaotic guitars and vocals that sound like the most unsettling whispers. Midtempo commands the track in a provocative tone, until the unexpected and quite effective, final accelerations.
“Primordial Impurity” has a slow and lethal feel, with great tremolo riffs, blasting bass lines and percussion. The band’s arsenal, at this point, is much broader and deadlier than in its early days, something this track exemplifies all too well. The swerve with acceleration here is monstrous, it leaves the listener thirsty for chaos and barbarism. Fantastic piece.
After such a monumental start and sequence, I didn’t expect much more. But “Mother of Abominations” keeps punishing and devastating everything in its path. Impossible not to be infected by this track. “Wings of Perdition” opens similar to an interlude, but it’s actually not. On the contrary, it engages with speed, vehemence, and excellent technique in driving the insanely tense parts, whether fast or cadenced.
In “Eve’s Holy Vulva” Martial Black Thrash sets the tone, amid crushing heaviness and hypnotic segments. Some of the deadliest riffs form the backbone of the catchy “Adversary of Creation”. Closing the album, another insane and blasphemous piece with “Summoning the Abjection”.
POWER FROM HELL’s seventh studio album is stupendous, mature, well-composed and finely executed. It attacks relentlessly, like an atrocious entity summoned by the darkest and most perverse deities of the underworld. The kind of record that only endorses the timeless greatness of Brazilian extreme metal, its global significance and influence since the early days.
A must for fans of VULCANO (BRA), SARCÓFAGO (BRA), HELLHAMMER (SWI), MIDNIGHT (USA), VENOM (GBR), BESTIAL WARLUST (AUS), DESTRÖYER 666 (AUS), TOXIC HOLOCAUST (USA).
