PESTLEGION – Sathanas Grand Victoria (Adv. CD 2022)

Como adjetivar o Black Metal forjado na Alemanha? A maior nação da Europa amaldiçoou o mundo com nomes grandiosos como NAGELFAR, KATHARSIS, THE RUINS OF BEVERAST, NYKTALGIA, FARSOT, MOONBLOOD, LUNAR AURORA, BETHLEHEM, só pra mencionar alguns.

 O PESTLEGION é uma banda formada em 2012 no oeste da Alemanha, e desenvolve um Black Metal ortodoxo, altamente fiel aos preceitos do estilo nos anos 90 e que olha, ao mesmo tempo, para o futuro. Ouve-se um som impiedoso, veloz na maior parte do tempo, blasfemo e instigante.

 O quarteto acaba de produzir seu segundo álbum de estúdio, “Sathanas Grand Victoria”, que será lançado mundialmente no final de setembro pela gravadora francesa “Osmose Productions” em CDs (Jewel Case e Digipack Limitado), fitas cassete e Discos de Vinil.

 O trabalho soa extremamente potente, e recebeu mixagem e masterização de “Toni Merkel”, baterista do SODOM. Além dele, participa do álbum o eterno “Tom Angelripper”, fundador, baixista e vocal do SODOM, prestando vocais adicionais.

 A Intro do álbum é uma marcha infernal e um tanto épica, que convoca o ouvinte a rebelar-se contra todas as formas organizadas de religião. Quando “We Deny Thy Name” explode nos falantes, instala-se o caos. O trampo de bateria de “Daementhor” é marcante, tanto pela velocidade quanto pela precisão absurdos. Tudo funciona excepcionalmente bem nessa abertura, riffs viciantes, a brutalidade dos blasts, melodias bem-posicionadas, vocais odiosos…

 Após essa coturnada na boca, “The Portal” desenvolve-se mais vagarosamente, e com pegada mais melódica. O apoio sutil dos teclados deixa a atmosfera mais densa. Do meio em diante, a faixa ganha ímpeto e alternativas rítmicas interessantes.

 “Into the Golden Valley” retoma a velocidade intensa, e confesso que é quando a banda se fato se destaca. Os caras são mestres em criar andamentos velozes e cativantes, com um senso melódico superior, que se funde perfeitamente à selvageria proposta. Riffs sobre riffs, percussão excelente, uma das melhores do álbum.

 Igualmente matadora é “Ketzer Reim”, de levadas absolutamente triunfantes. Impossível não se empolgar com essas “Rimas Heréticas” que deverão render bem demais ao vivo. E tome mais riff foda, dessa vez ganhando o suporte de teclados muito bem sacados. Fudida.

 Hora da música tema do álbum, com seu título em latim facilmente inteligível. O som oscila entre a velocidade extrema e os segmentos de ritmo médio, que não perdem em nada em termos de bestialidade. Mais uma digna de destaque, com belos leads e solos de guitarra.

 O massacre não cessa, e “Adjuration of the Elder Gods” é outro hino de propagação do fim dos tempos e de adoração às deidades primordiais. Letal, com teclados aterradores no final. Estava faltando ao menos uma faixa cantada em alemão. E ela chega com “Entsage Gott”, que clama pela apostasia (renúncia a Deus). Viciante, de riffs melódicos estrondosos e a blasfêmia quase poética, entonada em uma língua que casa natural e perfeitamente com a agressividade do Black Metal (tal qual todas as demais do tronco germânico).

 O final da obra é representado pela fantástica “The Warlock’s Curse”, rica em variações rítmicas, composta e executada com excepcional técnica e sangue nos olhos. De tirar o fôlego. Seu encerramento com guitarras acústicas é o real único momento de respiro do disco.

 Concluindo, o segundo álbum de estúdio do PESTLEGION é memorável, um significativo passo evolutivo em relação ao seu trabalho de estreia, o ótimo “Dominus Profundum”, de 2017. Golaço da “Osmose”.

 Recomendo muito a qualquer fã de Black Metal veloz e ríspido, sem deixar de ser bem tocado. Obrigatório aos fãs de MARDUK (SUE), DARK FUNERAL (SUE), SETHERIAL (SUE), BELPHEGOR das antigas (AUT), 1349 (NOR), ENDSTILLE (ALE), BESATT (POL).

How to properly qualify the Black Metal forged in Germany? Europe’s greatest nation has cursed the world with great names as NAGELFAR, KATHARSIS, THE RUINS OF BEVERAST, NYKTALGIA, FARSOT, MOONBLOOD, LUNAR AURORA, BETHLEHEM, just to mention a few.

 PESTLEGION are a band formed in 2012 in western Germany, they develop an orthodox brand of Black Metal, highly faithful to the concepts of the 90’s while looking, at the same time, towards the future. Their sound is merciless, insane fast most of the time, blasphemous and provocative.

 The quartet has just delivered their second studio album, “Sathanas Grand Victoria”, set for worldwide release in late September via French label “Osmose Productions”, on CDs (Jewel Case and Limited Digipacks), Cassette tapes and Vinyl Records.

 The record sounds extremely powerful, and was mixed and mastered by “Toni Merkel”, SODOM’s drummer. The eternal “Tom Angelripper”, SODOM’s founder, bassist, and vocalist also joined the recordings, providing backing vocals.

 The album’s intro is a hellish and epic march, challenging the listener to defy all organized religion forms. When “We Deny Thy Name” blasts from the speakers, chaos ensues. The drum work by “Daementhor” is remarkable, with absurd speed and precision. Everything works exceptionally well in this opening. It offers addictive riffs, insane blasts, well-placed melodies, and hateful vocals.

 After such an impressive start, “The Portal” develops more slowly, and with a more melodic feel. The subtle support provided by keyboards makes the atmosphere a lot denser. From the middle onwards, the track gains momentum and interesting rhythmic alternatives.

 “Into the Golden Valley” brings back the intense speed, and I confess, that’s when the band really stands out. These gentlemen are masters in crafting fast and captivating sections, with a superior melodic sense, which perfectly merges with the savagery delivered. Killer riff following killer riff, excellent percussion, certainly one of the album’s highlights.

 Equally monstrous is “Ketzer Reim”, with absolutely triumphant movements. It’s impossible not to get excited with these “Heretical Rhymes“, which should pay off quite well when played live. More supreme riffs, this time backed by creative, ominous keyboards. Damn, this is so good.

 Time for the album’s theme song, with its easily intelligible Latin title. It oscillates between high speed and mid-tempo segments, which lack nothing in terms of bestiality. Another remarkable piece, with fine leads and guitar solos.

 The slaughter does not cease, and “Adjuration of the Elder Gods” is another hymn disseminating the end of times and the worship of primal, pagan deities. Lethal, with terrifying keyboards at the end. The album needed at least one track in German, and it finally arrives with “Entsage Gott,” calling for Apostasy (the renunciation of God). Addictive, filled with thunderous melodic riffs and nearly poetic blasphemy, intoned in a language that naturally and perfectly matches the aggressiveness of Black Metal (like all other Germanic languages, by the way).

 The record’s end is represented by fantastic “The Warlock’s Curse”, rich in rhythmic variations, composed and performed with fine technique, by a band with four members permanently seeing red. Breathtaking track. Its closure with acoustic guitars is the only real breather.

 In conclusion, PESTLEGION’s second studio album is memorable, a significant evolution in relation to their debut work, 2017’s “Dominus Profundum”. A great pick by “Osmose”.

 Highly recommended for any fans of fast Black Metal, especially if you enjoy it well-structured and played. A must have for fans of MARDUK (SWE), DARK FUNERAL (SWE), SETHERIAL (SWE), old BELPHEGOR (AUT), 1349 (NOR), ENDSTILLE (GER), old BESATT (POL).
