ORTHOSTAT – The Heat Death (CD 2023)

Tudo que nós amantes do submundo e do metal queremos é que surjam muitas bandas brasileiras do estilo e que lancem os seus trabalhos e façam muitos shows, que ganhem respeito no Underground. E quando essa banda faz tudo isso e chega ao seu segundo trabalho e melhor de tudo; evoluindo em todos os quesitos e lançado um magnífico álbum, cheio de criatividade e ainda melhor que o seu Full álbum que já era bom.

O novo trabalho dos catarinenses do ORTHOSTAT deu um passo muito grande em relação ao primeiro álbum cheio deles, “Monolith of Time” de 2019. Com toda essa qualidade sonora, nem parece que são só 4 anos que separa o primeiro para esse segundo “The Heat Death”. Uma produção limpa, mas que priorizou o peso, onde dá para ouvir cada nota executada por esses arqueólogos do Death Metal.

O processo de concepção deste álbum começou em 2019, quando o membro fundador David Lago começou a esboçar o conceito teórico que servirá como o cerne do álbum. Este é um álbum conceitual, que investiga as profundezas científicas insondáveis do universo.

São 10 faixas de um Death Metal old school, técnico sem soar demasiado chato, com camadas sombrias e obscuras, tétricas e muito pesado, carregado de uma energia negra, densa, melancólica, claustrofóbica e angustiante.

É até difícil escolher um destaque porque estão todas no mesmo nível. Cada música é de uma qualidade e técnica absurda. Com solos de guitarras cheio de melodias, técnica e que remete ao Heavy Metal. Cheio de sentimentos, paixão, peso, e riffs poderosos. Ótimo trabalho da dupla de guitarrista “Hille & Lago”. A cozinha não fica atrás. Com a entrada de Igor Thomaz e com o contrabaixo de Eduardo é absurdamente matadora. Baixo pesado, estridente e os graves explodindo nos alto falantes. E a bateria com pegada única e trabalhada, com passagens rápidas e cadenciadas, muito peso e quebradas absurdas. Inclusive, até o vocal de David Lago tá diferente e muito melhor! Se no primeiro era ultra gutural e urros insanos, aqui continua gutural e cavernoso, porém audível e dá para entender seus fraseados vocálicos. Como disse: os caras se superam em todos os quesitos!

Mas com certeza a faixa “Singularity” é um grande destaque com uma base poderosa, riffs e solos mágicos, o baixo pesado e técnico, e a bateria quebrada e destruidora. Aliás, a bateria é um grande destaque neste novo trabalho. E no final da música, passagens de violões clássicos que traz uma calmaria no meio de um Death Metal violento e pesado! Faixas como: “Radioactivity” que inclusive tem vídeo clip no YouTube e “Nothingness” vai deixar todos com um sorriso de felicidade na cara de quem é apreciador de um Death Metal. O disco foi gravado no home-studios da banda,a bateria no Marmotas estúdio em Rio Negrinho,(SC) a produção já citada foi de David Lago e Rudolph Hille, e a masterização foi feita por Rudolph Hille.

Para os amantes e cultuadores do metal da morte, certeza que não vão se arrepender de ouvir esse trabalho dos catarinenses. “The Heath Death” com certeza tornará – se um clássico do metal da morte brasileiro. E isso mostra o quanto nossas bandas não devem nada para cenas europeias ou americanas. A produção do álbum ficou a cargo da dupla David Lago (G/V) e Ruddolph Hille (G) e ficou ótima. Diria até que foi produzida por medalhões(se não soubesse que foram eles) e fora do país. Aqui o nível é gringo! Tamanho qualidade sonora dessa produção.

Os instrumentos aparecem todos. E falando nisso, os caras tiveram a manha de inserir teclados em algumas faixas numa pegada tipo gótico/pós-punk dos anos 80 e tudo com peso e volume no momento certo. Todos instrumentos bem destacados e poderosos.

Arte da capa feita pelo mestre Márcio Blasphemator e gostei muito das cores e a viagem que ela representa, que, aliás tem tudo a ver com a temática do álbum. Vale citar: que essa arte foi pintada a mão.

Se a morte chegar por calor, seria bom os deathbangers estarem tomando uma cerveja bem gelada e ouvindo esse poderoso Death Metal do ORTHOSTAT!

All we underworld and metal lovers want is for many Brazilian metal bands to emerge and release their work, play lots of gigs and gain respect in the underground. And when this band does all of that and comes up with their second album, and best of all; evolving in all aspects and releasing a magnificent album, full of creativity and even better than their Full album, which was already good.

The new work by ORTHOSTAT from Santa Catarina has taken a huge step forward compared to their first full-length album, “Monolith of Time” from 2019. With all this sound quality, it doesn’t seem like it’s only been four years since their first full-length, “The Heat Death”. A clean production, but one that prioritised heaviness, where you can hear every note played by these death metal archaeologists.

The process of conceiving this album began in 2019, when founding member David Lago began sketching out the theoretical concept that will serve as the core of the album. This is a concept album that delves into the unfathomable scientific depths of the universe. There are 10 tracks of old school Death Metal, technical without sounding too boring, with dark and obscure layers, tetric and very heavy, loaded with a dark, dense, melancholic, claustrophobic and distressing energy.

It’s hard to pick a highlight because they’re all on the same level. Each song is of absurd quality and technique. The guitar solos are full of melodies, technique and are reminiscent of heavy metal. Full of feeling, passion, heaviness and powerful riffs. Great work from the guitar duo “Hille & Lago”. The kitchen is second to none. With the addition of Igor Thomaz and Eduardo’s double bass, it’s absurdly killer. The bass is heavy, shrill and explodes out of the speakers. And the drums have a unique and elaborate feel, with fast and cadenced passages, a lot of weight and absurd breaks. Even David Lago’s vocals are different and much better! If in the first album it was ultra guttural and insane, here it’s still guttural and cavernous, but audible and you can understand his vocal phrasing. As I said: the guys outdo themselves in every respect!

But the track “Singularity” is certainly a highlight, with a powerful base, magical riffs and solos, a heavy, technical bass and shattering, destructive drums. In fact, the drums are a great highlight of this new work. And at the end of the song, passages of classic guitars that bring a calm in the middle of violent and heavy Death Metal!

Tracks like “Radioactivity”, which even has a video clip on YouTube, and “Nothingness” will leave anyone who enjoys death metal with a happy smile on their face. The album was recorded at the band’s home-studio, the drums at Marmotas studio in Rio Negrinho, (SC) the aforementioned production was by David Lago and Rudolph Hille, and the mastering was done by Rudolph Hille.

For lovers and worshippers of death metal, you certainly won’t regret listening to this album from Santa Catarina. “The Heath Death” is sure to become a classic of Brazilian death metal. And that shows how much our bands owe nothing to the European or American scenes. The album was produced by the duo of David Lago (G/V) and Ruddolph Hille (G) and it turned out great. I’d even say it was produced by big names (if I didn’t know better) and outside the country. Here the level is gringo! Such is the sound quality of this production.

All the instruments are there. And speaking of which, the guys had the knack of inserting keyboards into some of the tracks in an 80s gothic/post-punk style, and all with weight and volume at just the right moment. All instruments well emphasised and powerful.

The cover artwork was done by the master Márcio Blasphemator and I really liked the colours and the journey it represents, which, by the way, has everything to do with the theme of the album. It’s worth mentioning that this artwork was painted by hand.

If death comes in hot weather, deathbangers would do well to drink a cold beer and listen to ORTHOSTAT‘s powerful death metal!
