O que dizer do “Devil Metal” que o Nunslaughter faz? É uma banda da qual, ao menos até o momento, você não deveria esperar grandes mudanças. Eles vêm fazendo seu manifesto anticristão desde o fim dos anos 1980, sem qualquer intenção de soar diferente, “evoluir”, “ser técnico” ou “soar moderno”.
É exatamente isso que este lançamento, com pouco mais de 30 minutos, faz: vomita, cospe e grita blasfêmias, satanismo e anticristianismo. Além disso, marca claramente um posicionamento contra muito do que tem sido produzido no metal mais mainstream atualmente.
O curioso é que os caras optaram por fazer isso em uma nova gravadora, maior e, segundo eles, com mais alcance, mas sem que isso influencie em nada suas composições. É um disco curto, frenético, violento e sem concessões. Estamos falando de uma banda que possui cerca de 200 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) lançamentos, se contarmos demos, splits, EPs e singles. Uma verdadeira máquina blasfêmica!!!!
São 14 faixas supercurtas, que vão direto ao assunto, entregando um metal que mistura death metal, black metal e punk na medida certa.
Para começar a devastação, a banda já entrega a faixa-título, “Satanic Chaos Legions”: três minutos de bases e riffs pesadíssimos, sem muita elaboração, bateria frenética e um refrão que você já sabe qual é. Eu já imaginei esse massacre ao vivo. Em seguida, nada diminui, absolutamente nada, e chega esse soco no estômago que é “Jesus Fu*king Dies”, outra música que já dá para imaginar ao vivo. Aliás, quem já viu a banda no palco sabe do que estou falando: é uma insanidade!
Em “Unsacrament”, há um pouco mais de elaboração tanto nos riffs quanto na construção da música como um todo, mas sem diminuir o ritmo. Há algumas pegadas punk no andamento da faixa e um riff que ficou na minha cabeça por dias. Puta música foda, sem mais!
“Christian Ruse” vem em seguida, um pouco mais cadenciada e mais longa (cerca de três minutos, não mais que isso!), com uma pegada mais death/black metal. Achei o andamento perfeito para quebrar pescoços. Não pense que você vai passar indiferente por ela, porque não vai.
“Die Your Own Death” mescla elementos mais punk e hardcore à construção da música, deixando-a extremamente energética. É uma combinação que deu muito certo para, você sabe, blasfemar com bastante peso e violência.
“Rotten Messiah” também traz uma pegada crossover, um belo refrão e uma execução rápida, com algumas quebras de andamento típicas de bandas de hardcore e grindcore, que ajudam a adicionar mais camadas a uma composição naturalmente direta.
“Peukharist” começa lenta, bem mais densa que as demais, enfatizando a rejeição ao corpo de Cristo. Os riffs puxam bastante para o punk, mesmo com o andamento mais arrastado.
Em “Undead Melody”, a velocidade volta para não deixar ninguém se acostumar com a banda em um ritmo mais lento. Aqui, a mistura de death metal, black metal e punk reina absoluta. Ou melhor: o Devil Metal!
“Cathedral of Stench” traz novamente uma desacelerada. Seu andamento me lembra um pouco bandas como Usurper e Cianide.
Em “In the Flames of Inferno”, eles já deixaram você respirar um pouco e agora o jogam contra a parede com um belíssimo death metal (e alguns riffs de thrash metal alemão no meio), reverenciando Lúcifer como símbolo de rebeldia e liberdade.
“Listen to the Lies”, “Infernal Reign” e “The Spear of Satan” — essas três últimas músicas possuem pouco mais de dois minutos cada. Então você já pode imaginar o que esperar: um verdadeiro rolo compressor, com todas as misturas que ajudaram a construir a identidade da banda ao longo de tantos anos e lançamentos.
Não sei se foi porque o disco me pegou em um dia em que eu estava mais aberto a escutá-lo, ou se foi por causa da minha saturação com o excesso de superprodução e com tanta gente querendo ser mais rápida e mais técnica do que os outros. Só sei que o álbum me pegou!
Este é apenas o sexto (!!!!!!!) álbum completo dessa banda altamente produtiva, que ainda demonstra ter ideias, disposição e continua engajada com o underground da mesma forma que sempre esteve.
Quem acompanha um pouco da banda (porque acompanhar tudo com atenção é uma tarefa hercúlea) sabe exatamente o que esperar: eles soam como Nunslaughter tocando Devil Metal.
Nada mais que isso!

What can be said about the ‘Devil Metal’ that Nunslaughter plays? At least so far, this is a band from which you should not expect major changes. They have been carrying out their anti-Christian manifesto since the late 1980s with no intention whatsoever of sounding different, ‘evolving,’ ‘becoming technical,’ or ‘sounding modern.’
That is exactly what this release, running just over 30 minutes, does: it vomits, spits, and screams blasphemy, Satanism, and anti-Christianity. It also clearly marks a stance against much of what has been produced in the more mainstream metal scene nowadays.
The curious thing is that the band chose to do this through a new, larger record label which, according to them, has a broader reach, yet has had absolutely no influence on their songwriting. This is a short, frantic, violent, and uncompromising album. We are talking about a band that has around 200 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) releases if we count demos, splits, EPs, and singles. A true blasphemous machine!!!! There are 14 very short tracks that get straight to the point, delivering a style of metal that blends death metal, black metal, and punk in just the right proportions.
To begin the devastation, the band opens with the title track, ‘Satanic Chaos Legions’: three minutes of crushing riffs and heavy rhythm work, with little concern for sophistication, frantic drumming, and a chorus that you already know what it is. I could instantly picture this massacre being performed live.
Next, nothing slows down—absolutely nothing—and then comes the gut punch that is ‘Jesus Fu*king Dies’, another song that is easy to imagine in a live setting. In fact, anyone who has seen the band on stage knows exactly what I mean: it is complete insanity! ‘Unsacrament’ features slightly more elaborate riffing and songwriting, but without sacrificing intensity. There are some punk influences in the song’s pacing and a riff that stayed in my head for days. A damn awesome track, plain and simple.
‘Christian Ruse’ follows with a somewhat slower pace and a slightly longer runtime (around three minutes, and not much more than that!), carrying a stronger death/black metal feel. I found its tempo perfect for breaking necks. Don’t think you’ll remain indifferent to it, because you won’t. ‘Die Your Own Death’ blends punk and hardcore elements into its structure, making it extremely energetic. It is a combination that works perfectly for, well, blaspheming with plenty of weight and violence.
‘Rotten Messiah’ also carries a crossover vibe, featuring a great chorus and a fast-paced execution, along with tempo shifts typical of hardcore and grindcore bands that add extra layers to an otherwise straightforward composition. ‘Peukharist’ begins slowly, far denser than the other tracks, emphasizing the rejection of the body of Christ. The riffs lean heavily toward punk despite the slower pace. With ‘Undead Melody’, the speed returns to ensure nobody gets used to the band playing slowly. Here, the fusion of death metal, black metal, and punk reigns supreme. Or rather: Devil Metal! ‘Cathedral of Stench’ slows things down once again. Its pacing even reminds me somewhat of Usurper and Cianide.
On ‘In the Flames of Inferno’, after allowing you a brief moment to breathe, they throw you back against the wall with a magnificent death metal assault (with a few German thrash-style riffs appearing throughout), paying tribute to Lucifer as a symbol of rebellion and freedom. ‘Listen to the Lies’, ‘Infernal Reign’, and ‘The Spear of Satan’—these final three tracks all clock in at just over two minutes. So you can already imagine what to expect: a steamroller of aggression, packed with all the stylistic ingredients that have defined the band’s identity through so many years and releases. I don’t know if it was because I happened to listen to the album on a day when I was particularly receptive to it, or because I have become saturated with overproduction and with bands constantly trying to be faster and more technical than everyone else. All I know is that this album completely won me over.
This is only the sixth (!!!!!!!) full-length album from this highly productive band, which still demonstrates creativity, energy, and a commitment to the underground scene just as strong as it has always been. Anyone who follows the band, even casually (because keeping up with everything they have released is a Herculean task), already knows exactly what to expect: they sound like Nunslaughter playing Devil Metal.
Nothing more, nothing less.
