Após 11 anos sem nenhum lançamento os mestres do black/death metal mesopotâmico estão de volta com um aperitivo para os fãs que há tanto tempo esperam por um novo trabalho. Apesar de não ser um álbum completo, o novo trabalho do MELECHESH traz três novas composições que tratam de acalmar o fã em relação a possíveis mudanças no som da banda.
O MELECHESH continua com sua sonoridade intacta, misturando black e death metal com música do oriente médio, algo que cria uma característica muito própria ao grupo, que já está na ativa com essa proposta desde 1993.
“Sentinels of Shamash” tem dois elementos muito importantes em relação a sua produção. Primeiro é a qualidade absurda da gravação desse EP. Tudo incrivelmente bem gravado. O segundo é a poderosa arte da capa, que traz elementos da cultura do Oriente Médio. Duas coisas que já fariam qualquer um ficar curioso.
As músicas que compõem esse EP são “The Seventh Verdict”, “In Shadows, in Light” e “Raptos of Anzu”. Cada uma delas traz a sonoridade típica do MELECHESH e adiciona a rispidez do black metal e a brutalidade do death metal, adicionando um bom gosto estético musical que imprime ainda mais qualidade.
A primeira faixa é “The Seventh Verdict” e é uma música um tanto mais tradicional. Já “In Shadows” é a faixa de destaque desse novo material. Tem uma grande energia, é ríspida e ainda assim bastante elegante e misteriosa por causa das influências folclóricas dentro da música.
“Raptos of Anzu” disputa com a anterior e anda lado a lado em termos de qualidade. Consegue ser mais agressiva e por isso mesmo a que mais gostei. Os riffs são realmente muito foda.
Espero que o MELECHESH não demore muito para lançar o seu novo álbum de estúdio e se tirarmos por essas três músicas, será um material de respeito. Aguardando ansioso por isso.

After 11 years without any new releases, the masters of Mesopotamian black/death metal are back with an appetizer for fans who have long awaited new material. Although it is not a full-length album, the new release from Melechesh brings three new compositions that reassure listeners that there have been no drastic changes to the band’s sound.
Melechesh continues with its signature style intact, blending black and death metal with Middle Eastern musical elements—something that creates a very distinctive identity for the band, which has been active with this concept since 1993.
“Sentinels of Shamash” features two very important aspects regarding its production. The first is the astonishing recording quality of this EP—everything sounds incredibly well produced. The second is the powerful cover artwork, which incorporates elements from Middle Eastern culture. These two factors alone would already spark anyone’s curiosity.
The tracks included on this EP are “The Seventh Verdict”, “In Shadows, in Light”, and “Raptos of Anzu”. Each of them carries the typical sound of Melechesh, combining the harshness of black metal with the brutality of death metal while adding a refined musical aesthetic that further enhances the overall quality.
The opening track is “The Seventh Verdict”, a somewhat more traditional composition. “In Shadows, in Light” is the highlight of this new material. It carries great energy, is raw, and at the same time elegant and mysterious due to the folkloric influences present in the music.
“Raptos of Anzu” competes closely with the previous track and stands side by side with it in terms of quality. It manages to be even more aggressive, which is exactly why it ended up being my favorite. The riffs are truly outstanding.
I hope Melechesh does not take too long to release their next full-length studio album. If these three songs are any indication, it will certainly be a remarkable release. I’m eagerly waiting for it.
