LITOSTH – Farther from the Sun (2022)

Eu acho incrível como o Brasil produz metal extremo de muita qualidade desde os tempos remotos do underground lá no início dos anos 80 e 90. E no século XXI, a tradição continua e melhor de tudo, cada lançamento melhor que outro, e bandas cada vez melhores, e com músicos com nível técnico absurdo, além de uma produção muito boa. Aceitamos ou não, mas a tecnologia dentro do submundo só ajudou as bandas atualmente.

É o caso dessa “one man band “, projeto do músico gaúcho Maicon Ristow que também faz parte do Patria e outras bandas do estado dos irmãos Kolesne. Em 2022, ele lançou o segundo trabalho “Farther from the Sun” que foi todo escrito e produzido durante a pandemia de covid que assolou o mundo e inclusive no Brasil, onde morreram muitas pessoas, infelizmente.  

O play contém 8 faixas magníficas. Abrindo com “Unlived” e que música foda! Rápida, direta, agressiva e com partes trabalhadas e melódicas. “Sic Parvis Magna” e “The Omnipresent” continuam na mesma pegada, adicionando partes agressivas e momentos com bastante melodias nas guitarras, e um teclado dando um clima obscuro e tétrico. 

“Raven’s Circle” é a faixa que foi divulgada como single nas plataformas digitais. Com guitarras poderosas, bateria direta e vocais viscerais. O play segue uma temática sobre a morte, e formas diferentes e filosóficas de morrer. E seguindo com as faixas: “Epicenter”, “Rotten”, “Saviour” e fechando esse trabalho com a faixa que dá nome ao álbum “Farther from the Sun”.

Músicas fantásticas com guitarras trabalhadas, bases com muito sentimento, bateria e baixo dando peso e suporte. Vocais infernais invocando a morte e o desespero. Sem fé em Deus! A morte surge à sua frente e só ela é real! Apesar desse trabalho conter bastante passagens melódicas, ele é mais direto, mais black metal que o debut cd lançado em 2019, “Crossed Parallels of Self Refraction” que inclusive já foi resenhado aqui no site.

Em “Farther From The Sun” a pegada é mais ríspida e agressiva. Para os amantes da suprema arte negra terem uma pequena noção do som do LITOSTH eu vejo algo do grandioso Dissection, Dimmu Borgir, (fase anos 90) Emperor e Borknagar, mas tudo com a qualidade e bom gosto do músico Ristow, que dá uma identidade sonora as suas composições.

O trabalho é matador!  Com uma grandiosa produção. Gravado no estúdio Dead Marshall, em Caxias do Sul (RS) e produzido por Dave Deville. A capa também foi feita pelo próprio Maicon, é uma mistura de desenho nanquim com acabamento digital e ficou a cargo de Marcelo Vasco. Aliás, o desenho é um cavaleiro que representa a morte montado em um cavalo caminhando em cima de esqueletos em um vale frio e tenebroso. Não sei porque, mas essa arte me fez lembrar do clássico filme do sueco Ingmar Bergman “O Sétimo Selo” e o desenho tem tudo a ver com a temática deste trabalho.

Antes que a morte bate na porta, escute esse trabalho e veja: as nossas bandas brasileiras têm lançado ótimos trabalhos e continuam a levar o metal brasileiro pelo submundo e nos deixar orgulhosos.

I think it’s amazing how Brazil has been producing high-quality extreme metal since the early days of the underground in the early 80s and 90s. And in the 21st century, the tradition continues and best of all, each release is better than the last, and the bands are getting better and better, with musicians of an absurd technical level, as well as very good production. Whether we accept it or not, technology within the underworld has only helped bands today.

This is the case with this “one man band”, a project by musician Maicon Ristow from Rio Grande do Sul, who is also part of Patria and other bands from the Kolesne brothers’ state. In 2022, he released his second album “Farther from the Sun”, which was written and produced during the Covid pandemic that ravaged the world, including Brazil, where many people unfortunately died.  

The play contains 8 magnificent tracks. Opening with “Unlived”, what a fucking song! Fast, direct, aggressive and with melodic parts. “Sic Parvis Magna” and “The Omnipresent” continue in the same vein, adding aggressive parts and moments with a lot of melody in the guitars, and a keyboard giving it a dark and grim atmosphere. 

“Raven’s Circle” is the track that has been released as a single on digital platforms. With powerful guitars, direct drums and visceral vocals. The play follows a theme of death and different, philosophical ways of dying. It continues with the tracks “Epicenter”, “Rotten”, “Saviour” and closes with the album’s title track “Farther from the Sun”.

Fantastic songs with hard-working guitars, heartfelt backing vocals, drums and bass giving weight and support. Hellish vocals invoking death and despair. No faith in God! Death looms in front of you and only it is real! Although this work contains a lot of melodic passages, it is more direct, more black metal than the debut CD released in 2019, “Crossed Parallels of Self Refraction”, which has already been reviewed here on the site.

In “Farther From The Sun”, the approach is rougher and more aggressive. For lovers of supreme black art to get a sense of LITOSTH‘s sound, I see something of the great Dissection, Dimmu Borgir, (90s Era) Emperor and Borknagar, but all with the quality and good taste of the musician Ristow, who gives his compositions a sonic identity.

The work is killer!  With a great production. Recorded at the Dead Marshall studio in Caxias do Sul (RS) and produced by Dave Deville. The cover was also done by Maicon himself, it’s a mixture of ink drawing and digital finishing and was done by Marcelo Vasco. In fact, the drawing is a knight representing death on a horse walking over skeletons in a cold, dark valley. I don’t know why, but this artwork reminded me of Ingmar Bergman’s classic film “The Seventh Seal” and the drawing has everything to do with the theme of this work.

Before death knocks on the door, listen to this work and see: our Brazilian bands have been releasing great work and continue to take Brazilian metal through the underworld and make us proud.
