Desde a criação da banda, seus membros sempre deixaram muito claro que o GRUESOME era uma entidade musical que procurava homenagear o legado de uma das figuras mais criativas do metal extremo em todos os tempos.
E é por isso que comentários depreciativos soam tão infantis, pois aqui não se trata de ninguém querendo “copiar” o DEATH ou algo assim. São músicos que foram contemporâneos ao Chuck, o conheceram e tem um grande apreço por sua arte.
Dito isso, “Silent Echoes” é o terceiro álbum oficial da banda que agora navega nas águas turbulentas da sonoridade do DEATH, mas abraçando as características mais complexas e técnicas que marcaram o lançamento do fenomenal “Human”, de 1991.
Talvez a pergunta seja: “será que esses caras conseguiram criar algo que se encaixasse naquela sonoridade tão única?” A resposta a essa pergunta é absolutamente sim.
O GRUESOME e seus membros absorveram tão bem os aspectos musicais mais complexos e a estética daquele período que lançaram aqui o seu melhor álbum até agora. “Silent Echoes” é como beber um vinho envelhecido, ficar desacordado e ao abrir os olhos ter retornado ao início dos anos 90.
É um trabalho que, ainda que não seja tão complexo quanto a própria genialidade de Chuck seria capaz de criar, ele oferece aquela sonoridade com um alto nível de impacto no ouvinte. Há a complexidade em cada música, mas também é possível perceber a rispidez do que seria a música anterior do Death. Isso talvez seja por causa da produção do álbum. Ao contrário do “Human” que soava um tanto estranho em sua produção, esse do GRUESOME é mais na cara, soa mais intenso. Uma mistura perfeita do que seria a mistura do DEATH mais brutal e sujo com sua faceta mais técnica e refinada.
O álbum é um trabalho que me agradou demais do início ao fim. Não há músicas a se destacar, pois todas cumprem o seu papel com uma qualidade incrível. Musicalmente é poderoso, mas é no seu poder de nos transportar a uma época em que o metal extremo estava vivendo um era de ouro que esse álbum se destaca como os outros não conseguiram (ainda que sejam dois trabalhos matadores). Conseguir emular essa atmosfera não é um tarefa para qualquer um e o GRUESOME conseguiu mais uma vez.
Não vou destacar nenhuma música, mas não dá para ignorar a performance dos quatro músicos que gravaram esse trabalho, em especial os vocais do Matt Harvey, que soam perfeitos na proposta desse trabalho. Matador em todos os sentidos.
A arte da capa é mais uma coisa a ser destaca pois traz de volta o lado artístico mais intrincado do que seria um álbum do DEATH naquele período de transição entre o caos e a finesse musical.
Agora falta o GRUESOME trazer esse trabalho para os palcos brasileiros e mostram às novas gerações como o death metal soava para todos nós que pudemos vivenciar e apreciar a música do DEATH enquanto Chuck ainda estava entre nós.
Soar como o DEATH não me incomoda. Fechar os olhos, voltar no passado e apreciar o bom e velho metal extremo com essa qualidade é o mais importante. Gravadoras nacionais, que tal lançar esse trabalho por aqui ?

Since the band’s inception, its members have always made it very clear that GRUESOME was a musical entity that sought to honor the legacy of one of the most creative figures in extreme metal of all time.
And that’s why derogatory comments sound so childish, because this isn’t about anyone wanting to “copy” DEATH or anything like that. These are musicians who were contemporaries of Chuck, knew him, and have a great appreciation for his art.
That said, “Silent Echoes” is the band’s third official album, which now navigates the turbulent waters of DEATH‘s sound, but embraces the more complex and technical characteristics that marked the release of the phenomenal “Human” in 1991.
Perhaps the question is: “Did these guys manage to create something that fits that unique sound?” The answer to that question is an absolute yes.
GRUESOME and its members have absorbed the more complex musical aspects and aesthetics of that period so well that they have released their best album to date. “Silent Echoes” is like drinking aged wine, passing out, and when you open your eyes, you’re back in the early 90s.
It’s a work that, while not as complex as Chuck’s own genius would be capable of creating, offers that sound with a high level of impact on the listener. There is complexity in each song, but it is also possible to perceive the harshness of what would be Death’s previous music. This may be because of the album’s production. Unlike “Human”, which sounded a bit strange in its production, this one by GRUESOME is more in your face, sounds more intense. A perfect blend of what would be the most brutal and dirty DEATH mixed with its most technical and refined side.
The album is a work that I enjoyed from start to finish. There are no songs that stand out, as they all fulfill their role with incredible quality. Musically, it is powerful, but it is in its power to transport us to a time when extreme metal was experiencing a golden age that this album stands out as the others have not (even though they are two killer works). Emulating this atmosphere is not a task for just anyone, and GRUESOME has done it once again.
I won’t highlight any songs, but it’s impossible to ignore the performance of the four musicians who recorded this work, especially Matt Harvey’s vocals, which sound perfect for this project. Killer in every sense of the word.
The cover art is another thing to highlight, as it brings back the more intricate artistic side of what a DEATH album would be like in that period of transition between chaos and musical finesse.
Now GRUESOME needs to bring this work to Brazilian stages and show the new generations how death metal sounded to all of us who were able to experience and appreciate DEATH‘s music while Chuck was still with us.
Sounding like DEATH doesn’t bother me. Closing my eyes, going back in time, and enjoying good old extreme metal with this quality is what matters most. Brazilian record labels, how about releasing this work here?
