O FUNERAL LEECH é uma banda relativamente nova (2015), oriunda dos Estados Unidos, que, mesmo não tendo membros conhecidos na cena extrema, mostra ser formada por músicos experientes e gabaritados, que dão cabo de um Death metal que bebe severamente na fonte do Doom Metal. Pode-se tratar um paralelo com formações do naipe de Incantation, Blood Incantation, Necrot e afins, devido ao fato das partes arrastadas e lentas, em que se destacam os vocais altamente guturais de Lucas Anderson (também baterista). São nestas partes que parecem que o clima fica realmente denso e sorumbático.
Mas o que realmente chama atenção em “Death Meditation” é o trampo das guitarras, que ficam a cargo de Zack Chumley e Alex Baldwin. Os caras criam uma parede pesada de riffs impressionantes e hipnóticos, que, por vezes, podem absorver uma atmosfera Black Metal. O baixista Kevin Kalb também demonstra maestria segurando perfeitamente a cozinha junto da bateria. Toda essa massa sonora é pano de fundo para exacerbações líricas que abordam o lado mais negativo e depressivo da alma humana. Não se trata de longas explanações, são letras curtas e diretas ao ponto.
O álbum foi lançado pelo pequeno selo americano Carbonized Records e traz uma produção extremamente condizente com a proposta da banda. Nada de pomposidade. E sim crueza e peso (como já fora dito), em que todos os instrumentos estão devidamente registrados na medida certa.
Por fim, é importante ressaltar que devido à homogeneidade das músicas, fica impossível destacar uma ou outra. O álbum se deixa ouvir tranquilamente, sem tropeços. A qualidade é tão latente que prende a atenção do ouvinte, mesmo nas partes lentas. É muito salutar ouvir bandas com a FUNERAL LEECH e perceber que o Underground ainda é capaz de dar à luz formações com esta

FUNERAL LEECH is a relatively new band (2015), from the United States, which, despite not having known members in the extreme scene, seems to be formed by experienced and skilled musicians, who finish off a Death Metal that drinks severely at the source of the Doom Metal.
A parallel can be treated with formations like Incantation, Blood Incantation, Necrot and others, due to the fact of the dragged and slow parts, in which the highly guttural vocals of Lucas Anderson (also drummer) stand out. It is in these parts that the climate seems to be really dense and sad.
But what really draws attention in “Death Meditation” is the work of the guitars, which are in hands of Zack Chumley and Alex Baldwin. The guys create a heavy wall of impressive and hypnotic riffs that can sometimes absorb a Black Metal atmosphere. Bassist Kevin Kalb also demonstrates mastery holding the “kitchen” perfectly to the drums. All of this sound mass is the backdrop for lyrical exacerbations that address the most negative and depressive side of the human soul. These are not long explanations, they are short and to the poinThe album was released by the small American label Carbonized Records and brings a production extremely consistent with the band’s proposal. No pomposity. Rather crudeness and weight (as already said), in which all instruments are duly registered in the right measure.
Finally, it is important to note that due to the homogeneity of the songs, it is impossible to highlight one or the other. The album allows itself to be heard quietly, without stumbling. The quality is so latent that it captures the listener’s attention, even in the slow parts. It is very salutary to hear bands with FUNERAL LEECH and realize that Underground is still capable of giving birth to formations with this one.
