A espera foi longa, longa até demais. Os norte-americanos do FUNEBRARUM levaram 17 anos para lançar um novo álbum e deixaram os death metal maníacos do mundo todo órfãos de sua música doentia. Ainda que lançamentos esporádicos como splits e um Ep tenham sido lançados, um novo álbum era uma dívida antiga desses bastardos com o seu publico.
Muito uma surpresa e um motivo de grande alegria receber esse material promocional da banda apresentando o seu novo álbum, que será lançado no próximo dia 29 de Maio via Pulverised Records.
Uma Intro e um Epilogue se unem a nove composições do mais puro death metal americano que traz em sua essência uma podridão que era algo que eu particularmente esperava. Não há malabarismos e muito menos uma tentativa de reinventar a roda. Há apenas metal da morte tocado com um peso descomunal, uma avalanche de riffs malditos e gélidos e um vocal que foi pensado e idealizado por um troll das cavernas. É disso que o povo gosta. Imundície vocal sendo vomitada sem cerimônias.
“Beckoning the Void of Eternal Silence” é um álbum direto, curto e grosso. Apresenta um equilíbrio perfeito entre peso, brutalidade, atmosferas obscuras e dissonância assassina. Ainda que existam inúmeros momentos de pura brutalidade, esse novo trabalho usa o peso e o doom metal de forma muito poderosa, criando momentos que são caoticamente densos. “Sa Nagba Amāru” é uma dessas faixas. Tudo se desenvolve de forma violenta e intensa.
O groove pode ser algo perigoso, mas se usado da forma correta cria recortes de pura destruição como o que podemos ouvir na música “Through the Barren Halls of Grieving Emptiness”, que deve soar uma marretada ao vivo. É o tipo de música que você vai querer bater cabeça como um maldito em frente ao palco. E tiro o chapéu para o solo assassino nessa faixa.
Se você precisasse de um cartão de visitas para entrar no universo do FUNEBRARUM, “Into Dark Domains” seria a escolha mais óbvia. A faixa reúne todas as características marcantes da banda e mostra exatamente como o death metal deve soar. Isso é perfeição.
“Anhela Odor Mortuorum (The Adepts)” é outra música infernal — uma das mais pútridas do álbum. As partes mais lentas se destacam como um ponto alto, criando uma atmosfera sufocante.
Outro grande destaque é a sombria e gélida “Turning the Stones of Torment”, que carrega algo que remete ao início do Amorphis. É incrivelmente suja, mas há melodia entrelaçada — e soa fantástica.
A arte da capa também merece elogios por fugir dos tons vermelhos, que se tornaram quase um padrão no death metal nos últimos anos. Ela captura perfeitamente a atmosfera que emana de cada nota do álbum e, sem dúvida, ficará deslumbrante em vinil.
No geral, trata-se de um lançamento excepcional que prova que o FUNEBRARUM só evoluiu com o passar do tempo. Não tenho dúvidas de que este é o melhor trabalho já entregue por esse quinteto de New Jersey. O death metal se apresenta aqui em toda a sua glória. Ouça, apoie, compre, tenha.

The wait was long—far too long. The American band FUNEBRARUM took 17 years to release a new album, leaving death metal maniacs worldwide starved of their sickening sound. While sporadic releases like splits and an EP kept their name alive, a full-length album had long been an overdue debt these bastards owed their fans.
It came as both a surprise and a great pleasure to receive this promotional material presenting their new album, set for release on May 29 via Pulverised Records.
Two intros and an epilogue join eight compositions of pure American death metal, steeped in the kind of rot one would expect from the band. There are no gimmicks here, no attempts to reinvent the wheel—just death metal played with overwhelming heaviness, an avalanche of cursed, icy riffs, and vocals that sound like they were conceived by a cave-dwelling troll. And that’s exactly what the people want: filth-laden vocals spewed forth without restraint.
“Beckoning the Void of Eternal Silence” is a direct, no-frills album—short, sharp, and crushing. It strikes a perfect balance between weight, brutality, dark atmospheres, and murderous dissonance. While there are countless moments of sheer aggression, this new effort also wields heaviness and doom metal influences with great power, creating passages of chaotic density. “Sa Nagba Amāru” is one such track, unfolding with relentless intensity and violence.
Groove can be a dangerous element, but when used correctly, it carves out moments of pure destruction—just like in “Through the Barren Halls of Grieving Emptiness”,which is bound to hit like a sledgehammer live. It’s the kind of track that will have you headbanging like a maniac in front of the stage. And I have to tip my hat to the killer solo on this one.
If you needed a calling card to get into FUNEBRARUM’s music, “Into Dark Domains” would be the obvious choice. It showcases all the band’s defining traits and demonstrates exactly how death metal should sound. This is perfection.
“Anhela Odor Mortuorum (The Adepts)” is another hellish track—one of the most putrid on the album. The slower sections stand out as a highlight, creating a suffocating atmosphere.
Another standout is the eerie, frostbitten “Turning the Stones of Torment”, which carries something reminiscent of early Amorphis. It’s incredibly filthy, yet there’s melody woven in—and it sounds fantastic.
The cover artwork also deserves praise for steering away from the overused red tones that have become almost synonymous with death metal in recent years. It perfectly captures the feeling that emanates from every note on the album and will undoubtedly look stunning on vinyl.
Overall, this is an outstanding release that proves FUNEBRARUM has only improved with time. I have no doubt this is the finest work ever delivered by this New Jersey quintet. Death metal is presented here in all its glory. Listen, support, buy it, own it.
