FARSCAPE – Purged and Forgotten (Adv. CD 2023)

Exatamente uma década após o lançamento do seu último álbum de estúdio “Primitive Blitzkrieg” (2013), os thrashers cariocas do FARSCAPE pegam todos de assaulto com um novo álbum intitulado “Purged and Forgotten”, que será lançado dia 22 de Setembro via Dying Victims Records.

De todas as bandas thrash brasileiras que vieram surgindo nos últimos 15 anos, o FARSCAPE era a que eu mais curtia por sua pegada mais agressiva de lado e técnica de outro. E fico feliz que nesse quesito a banda não mudou. Há agressividade inerente ao estilo, mas há muita técnica aqui envolvida.

O grupo está muito mais maduro e essa maturidade se reflete nas composições. Quando o álbum se inicia com a faixa título “Purged and Forgotten” você percebe essa pegada mais apurada na execução da música. Há alguns experimentos interessantes em relação a vocais, mas é um thrash metal técnico e direto. Uma faixa muito boa.

“Leucotomy” é uma faixa thrash metal em sua essência. Há uma pegada evidente das bandas europeias dos anos 80. Riffs mais ríspidos e em alguns momentos chegando a soar quase death metal. Há algo do velho Destruction e Kreator aqui e isso já deixa clara a qualidade da faixa. Na mesma pegada vem a matadora “The Last Solstice”, uma pancadaria com riffs após riffs, uma vocalização cortante e uma energia destruidora.

É impossível não perceber o tamanho da influência que o thrash metal alemão tem no som desses caras. “Backing from the Hole” tem um riff de abertura que esfrega isso na nossa cara. Aqui, novamente há uma experimentação de voz fora do convencional. O resultado é bem diferente, para dizer o mínimo.

O pé sai do acelerador com “Miss Violence“. Ainda que haja momentos mais rápidos, é uma faixa que experimenta em cima de mudanças de andamento e riffs diferentes. Gostei bastante dessa composição por causa disso. A velocidade é retomada com a quase brutal “Captivity of Souls” e seus riffs diretos e secos. A vocalização é desesperada e muito foda. Me lembrou os dois primeiros trampos do Sadus.

A última faixa é “Vengeance of the Forgotten” é tem exatamente 9:44 de duração, algo bem incomum para uma composição de thrash metal. Mas se você acha que vai ser uma faixa quase doom, pode esquecer. A pancadaria já se inicia logo desde o princípio e os riffs comandam.

Obviamente uma faixa desse tamanho não vai ser rápida o tempo inteiro e por volta dos 4:50 temos o início de passagens mais “tranquilas” e logo depois algo quase heavy metal, bem na linha de um Bewitched, por exemplo.

“Purged and Forgotten” é um excelente álbum e mostra que o FARSCAPE não perdeu o jeito de criar um thrash metal realmente de qualidade. Não sei se há previsão de lançamento do Brasil, mas de qualquer forma, dia 22 de Setembro o álbum será lançado no exterior.

Exactly a decade after the release of their last studio album “Primitive Blitzkrieg” (2013), Rio de Janeiro thrashers FARSCAPE take everyone by storm with a new album titled “Purged and Forgotten”, which will be released on the 22nd of September via Dying Victims Records.

Of all the Brazilian thrash bands that have emerged in the last 15 years, FARSCAPE was the one I liked the most for its more aggressive footprint on the one hand and technique on the other. And I’m glad that in this regard the band has not changed. There is inherent aggressiveness in the style, but there is a lot of technique involved here.

The group is much more mature and this maturity is reflected in the compositions. When the album starts with the title track “Purged and Forgotten” you realise this more refined approach in the execution of the song. There are some interesting experiments regarding vocals, but it is a technical and direct thrash metal. A very good track.

“Leucotomy” is a thrash metal track in its essence. There is an evident footprint of the European bands of the 80s. Rougher riffs and at times sounding almost death metal. There is something of the old Destruction and Kreator here and that already makes clear the quality of the track. In the same vein comes the killer “The Last Solstice”, a pummelling with riff after riff, a cutting vocalisation and a destructive energy.

It’s impossible not to realise the size of the influence that German thrash metal has on these guys’ sound. “Backing from the Hole” has an opening riff that rubs it in your face. Here, again, there is an unconventional experimentation with voice. The result is quite different, to say the least.

The foot comes off the accelerator with “Miss Violence”. Although there are faster moments, it is a track that experiments with tempo changes and different riffs. I really liked this composition because of that. The speed is resumed with the almost brutal “Captivity of Souls” and its direct and dry riffs. The vocalisation is desperate and very fucked up. It reminded me of the first two Sadus tracks.

The last track is “Vengeance of the Forgotten” and is exactly 9:44 long, something quite unusual for a thrash metal composition. But if you think it’s going to be an almost doom track, you can forget it. The thrashing starts right from the beginning and the riffs command. Obviously a track of this size is not going to be fast all the time and around 4:50 we have the beginning of more “quiet” passages and soon after something almost heavy metal, right in line with a Bewitched, for example.

“Purged and Forgotten” is an excellent album and shows that FARSCAPE has not lost the way to create a really quality thrash metal. I don’t know if there is a release forecast for Brazil, but anyway, on the 22nd of September the album will be released abroad.
