Grindcore, Obscene Extreme Festival e uma gravação ao vivo… Essas três coisas se completam de forma perfeita, ainda mais se a banda em questão for o visceral grupo mineiro EXPURGO. Tocar no OEF é certamente uma experiência única devido às características desse festival que ocorre na República Tcheca. É um pequeno puxadinho do inferno que libera a desgraceira musical durante sua edição anual.
O EXPURGO se apresentou lá em 2018 durante sua primeira tour europeia e o ponto alto foi a apresentação no festival, que acabou gerando esse rebento maldito em forma de álbum ao vivo.
Eu sempre adorei álbuns ao vivo (para quem cresceu nos anos 80 ouvindo metal muitas vezes aquelas gravações podres eram a única forma de ouvir algumas bandas do underground e de as aproximar de todos nós, pobres coitados que estavam a milhares de quilômetros dos eventos mais assassinos) e esse “Live Obscenity” é um material que eu tenho ouvido muito. A captação da banda ao vivo soa como um martelo. Tudo bem gravado, muito pesado e claro.
O mais legal é que você sente a energia que estava sendo transmitida pelo grupo brasileiro em cima do palco. Aquele grindcore brazuca sendo vomitado sem piedade durante 25 composições. A produção do álbum é excelente e posso destacar a capa. Se trata de uma fotografia tirada no festival e que materializa da forma mais perfeita possível o que é o clima do Obscene Extreme Festival. A conexão com o caos, violência musical e atmosfera underground estão presentes nessa imagem.
Fica evidente o quão bruto e direto foi o show do EXPURGO e não poderia ser diferente. O som da banda é a cara da proposta do festival. Destacar músicas é até injusto diante de um set list longo e variado que inclui inclusive versões para músicas do Impetigo e Regurgitate.
O encarte proporciona aquela dose cavalar de nostalgia, com uma montagem de fotos dos brasileiros em sua passagem pelo festival. Um álbum realmente foda e com o espírito puro do underground de uma banda que foi ao velho mundo e representou de forma mortal o metal brasileiro.

Grindcore, Obscene Extreme Festival and a live recording… These three things complement each other perfectly, even more so if the band in question is the visceral group from Minas Gerais, EXPURGO. Playing at OEF is certainly a unique experience due to the characteristics of this festival that takes place in the Czech Republic. It’s a little slice of hell that unleashes musical doom during its annual edition.
EXPURGO performed there in 2018 during their first European tour and the highlight was their performance at the festival, which ended up spawning this cursed offspring in the form of a live album.
I’ve always loved live albums (for those of us who grew up listening to metal in the 80s, those rotten recordings were often the only way to hear some underground bands and bring them closer to all of us poor sods who were thousands of kilometres away from the most murderous events) and this “Live Obscenity” is material I’ve listened to a lot. The band’s live performance sounds like a hammer. Everything is well recorded, very heavy and clear.
The coolest thing is that you can feel the energy being transmitted by the Brazilian group on stage. That Brazilian grindcore being spewed out mercilessly over the course of 25 songs. The album’s production is excellent and I can highlight the cover. It’s a photograph taken at the festival and materialises the atmosphere of the Obscene Extreme Festival as perfectly as possible. The connection with chaos, musical violence and the underground atmosphere are all present in this image.
It’s clear how raw and direct EXPURGO‘s show was, and it couldn’t have been any different. The band’s sound is right in line with the festival’s proposal. Singling out songs is unfair in the face of a long and varied set list that even includes versions of songs by Impetigo and Regurgitate.
The booklet provides a huge dose of nostalgia, with a montage of photos of the Brazilians during their time at the festival. A really great album with the pure underground spirit of a band that went to the old world and represented Brazilian metal in a deadly way.
