Dessa vez, a brincadeira ficou um pouco mais cara. O ingresso custou US$ 29.00 mas optei por adquirir também o upgrade para o evento VIP que aconteceria antes dos shows, por mais US$ 60.00. Fiz a opção pelo ENSLAVED, já que o comprador podia escolher qual das bandas europeias cumprimentaria, faria fotos e receberia o merchandising.
A fila para o evento VIP começou a se formar às 16:30, horário indicado pelos organizadores. Às 17:00 já estávamos entrando e a casa pronta para o início das atividades. Fui o segundo a conhecer os caras do ENSLAVED, trocar uma ideia rápida enquanto eles autografavam um cartão da turnê e tirar algumas fotos. Posso afirmar que valeu a pena, foi uma honra conhecer uma das minhas bandas preferidas.
O ingresso VIP dava direito a um crachá bacana ilustrado frente e verso, o cartão e um poster da turnê autografados pelos cinco caras, uma camiseta exclusiva do evento, além do famoso “meet & greet”. Ainda aproveitei pra comprar o CD novo, o CD+DVD da “Cinematic Tour 2020” e mais uma camiseta da turnê.
O bar da casa foi meu lar (e de vários espectadores) até as 19:00 horas, quando os norte-americanos do BLACK ANVIL subiram ao palco para iniciar os shows. Primeiro contato com a banda, que faz um Black Metal bem diferente do tradicional, agregando elementos de muitos outros subgêneros, principalmente o Thrash.
Pouco antes das 20:00 horas o INSOMNIUM iniciou seu set de aproximadamente uma hora, e os finlandeses dominaram completamente a audiência.
Confesso que conheço bem pouco da discografia, mas gostei muito do novo álbum “Anno 1696”, o qual resenhei para o “The Old Coffin Spirit” semanas atrás. Instrumental impecável, banda altamente entrosada e vocais muito bons. Os dois guitarristas são habilidosos, e disparam riffs e solos estupidamente melodiosos e de alta qualidade.
A banda tocou, pela ordem: “1696”, “White Christ”, “While We Sleep”, “Godforsaken”, “Lilian”, “And Bells They Toll” (um dos momentos mais foda do show), “The Whitch Hunter”, “Valediction”, “The Gale” e encerraram com “Mortal Share” e “Heart Like a Grave”.
Tecnicamente, não há o que criticar. A banda é muito boa mesmo. Pro meu gosto, falta só um pouco mais de agressividade, de sangue nos olhos. A sonoridade ao vivo dos caras é meio “inofensiva” pra quem é considerado uma banda de Death Metal Melódico.
Eu estava lá pra ver o ENSLAVED, de fato. E a espera não foi em vão. Eram 21:30 quando subiram ao palco e “Jettegryta” começou a soar pela casa. Um bem-humorado “Grutle” cumprimentou os presentes e anunciou a destruidora “Homebound”, do álbum “Utgard” (2020) gerando uma atmosfera incrível.
Som alto, potente e pesado era o que saía do sistema de som da casa. Como se espera de uma banda de metal extremo, seja qual for a vertente.
“Kingdom” e “Forest Dweller” são ótimas faixas do novo álbum “Heimdal”, e foram executadas em sequência. Um dos pontos mais altos da apresentação rolou com a excepcional “The Dead Stare” do hoje clássico “Below The Lights” (2003).
Retorno ao novo álbum com a pesadona “Congelia”, antecedendo outro momento memorável do show com a ritualística e empolgante “Havenless”. A faixa título do trabalho recente veio em seguida, e o show foi finalizado com a épica “Allfǫðr Oðinn”, lançada originalmente no EP “Hordanes Land” do início dos anos 90.
Foi um espetáculo de uma hora e dez minutos, bem dividido entre a numerosa discografia e o novo trabalho. Para os fãs mais devotos da banda (como eu), um enorme prazer acompanhar de perto a evolução da sonoridade e a energia com que os cinco noruegueses interage com seu público.

For this gig, I decided to spend a few more bucks and treat myself to a special experience. The general admission ticket cost me US$ 29.00, and I also purchased the upgrade to the VIP event which would take place before the shows, for an additional US$ 60.00. I picked ENSLAVED, as the buyer could choose which of the European bands he would greet, take pictures, and get some merch from.
The queue for the VIP event began forming at 4:30 pm, as requested by organizers. By 5 we were all getting in, and the venue was ready for the activities. I was the second to meet and greet ENSLAVED, chat a bit while they autographed a tour card, and snap a few pictures. I can say it was well worth it, a true honor meeting one of my favorite bands.
The VIP ticket included a nice identification badge illustrated front and back, the tour card and a poster autographed by the five bandmembers and an exclusive t-shirt of the event, in addition to the “meet & greet” itself. After that, I ran to the merch booth to get the new CD, the CD+DVD box of the “Cinematic Tour 2020” and the current tour t-shirt.
The fine venue’s bar was my home (and that of several spectators) until 7 pm, when US BLACK ANVIL took the stage and started their show. First contact with the band, which plays a very unique brand of Black Metal, adding elements from several other subgenres, mainly Thrash.
They wear corpse paint, and play a very energetic set, carrying five albums under their belts; I really enjoyed what I saw, it reminded me of bands like GOSPEL OF THE HORNS, NOCTURNAL GRAVES (AUS) and GOATWHORE (USA). The half-hour presentation flew by and made me curious to check out the discography.
It was nearly 8 pm when INSOMNIUM started their one hour plus set, and the Finns completely dominated the audience.
Must confess I know very little of their discography, but I like the new album “Anno 1696” a lot, which I reviewed for “The Old Coffin Spirit” a few weeks ago. Impeccable instrumental, tight band and excellent vocals. Both guitarists are skilled, and fire off top-quality, highly melodious riffs and solos.
The band played, in order: “1696”, “White Christ”, “While We Sleep”, “Godforsaken”, “Lilian”, “And Bells They Toll” (one of the most badass moments of their set), “The Whitch Hunter”, “Valediction”, “The Gale” ending with “Mortal Share” and “Heart Like a Grave”.
Technically, there’s nothing to criticize. The band is really good. For my taste, it lacks just a little more aggression. Their live sound is kinda “harmless”, even for a Melodic Death Metal band.
I was there to see ENSLAVED, as a matter of fact. And the wait was not in vain. It was 9:30 pm when they took the stage and “Jettegryta” started sounding throughout the house. A good-humored “Grutle” greeted those present and announced “Homebound”, off the album “Utgard” (2020), generating an amazing atmosphere.
A loud, powerful, and heavy sound came out of the venue’s sound system. As one would expect from an extreme metal band, whatever the subgenre.
“Kingdom” and “Forest Dweller” are great tracks from the new album “Heimdal” and were performed in sequence. One of the highlights of the performance was the exceptional “The Dead Stare” from the now classic “Below The Lights” (2003).
A brief return to the new album with the powerful “Congelia”, preceding another memorable moment of the show with ritualistic and compelling “Havenless”. “Heimdal” followed, and the show ended with the epic “Allfǫðr Oðinn”, originally released on the EP “Hordanes Land” in the early 90s.ENSLAVED’s presentation lasted only seventy minutes (yet memorable), well divided between the discography and the current release. For most devoted fans of the band (like myself), it was a great pleasure to closely follow the evolution of their music, and being able to witness the energy with which the five Nordmenn interact with their audience.
