DUNGEON – Into the Ruins (EP 2023)

O DUNGEON é um quarteto de speed metal formado em 2014 na cidade de Londres, Inglaterra e que no fim de 2023 lançou esse EP contendo cinco composições e intitulado “Into the Ruins”.

A banda é classificada como speed metal, mas ao ouvir o som desses caras você percebe que eles tem um pé firme fincado no extremismo. A primeira música do EP mostra isso. “Nagasaki Sunrise” é uma pancadaria impiedosa, apesar dos riffs do speed estarem presentes.

Já “Put Them in their Graves” mostra o lado speed metal mais forte, inclusive com aquela energia primitiva tão presente no punk. É uma faixa muito boa. O riff de abertura de “No Light” é puro black thrash metal e a própria composição me lembrou bastante o som dos alemães do Desaster e algo do velho Destroyer 666. Uma das melhores músicas desse álbum.

“Beneath the Church” é a música mais longa e soa como uma velha música do heavy metal oitentista. É pesada, com arranjos bem interessantes que tem seu clímax quando tudo acelera. A última música se chama “Ruins” e tem uma vibe bem speed metal alemão dos velhos tempos, ainda mais com o timbre do vocal.

“Into the Ruins” apresenta uma banda extremamente competente, que sabe dosar bem sua pegada mais extrema com seu lado mais tradicional. Falta ainda um pouco de personalidade, mas isso se adquire com o tempo, com a experiência de estrada e estúdio. Ainda ouviremos falar mais do DUNGEON. O caminho percorrido até agora é o certo.

DUNGEON is a speed metal quartet formed in 2014 in London, England, and at the end of 2023 they released this EP containing five compositions and entitled “Into the Ruins”.

The band is classified as speed metal, but listening to their sound you realize that they have their feet firmly planted in extremism. The first song on the EP shows this. “Nagasaki Sunrise” is a merciless thrashing, although the speed riffs are present.

“Put Them in their Graves”, on the other hand, shows the stronger speed metal side, including that primitive energy so present in punk. It’s a very good track.The opening riff of “No Light” is pure black thrash metal and the composition itself reminded me a lot of the sound of the Germans from Desaster and something of the old Destroyer 666. One of the best songs on the album.

“Beneath the Church” is the longest song and sounds like an old heavy metal song from the 1980s. It’s heavy, with very interesting arrangements that climax when everything speeds up. The last song is called “Ruins” and has a very old-school German speed metal vibe, even more so with the tone of the vocals.

“Into the Ruins” presents an extremely competent band, who know how to balance their more extreme approach with their more traditional side. It still lacks a bit of personality, but that will come with time, with experience on the road and in the studio. There will be more to come from DUNGEON. The path taken so far is the right one.
