DENOUNCEMENT PYRE – Forever Burning (CD 2022)

A Austrália possui uma legião de bandas de metal extremo de alto nível, boa parte mesclando Black Metal com Thrash ou Death, ou até mesmo criando uma amálgama tão homogênea e coesa, a ponto de não ser possível determinar precisamente a qual subgênero pertence.

 Um desses expoentes é o DENOUNCEMENT PYRE, de Melbourne. Apresentando-se hoje como um quarteto, a banda ostenta uma discografia relevante, montada gradativamente a partir de 2004 com uma demo, quatro EPs, um álbum ao vivo, um Split com o DIOCLETIAN e três álbuns completos de estúdio.

 Recentemente, a banda passou a trabalhar com a gravadora polonesa “Agonia Records”, que acaba de lançar seu quarto disco “Forever Burning”. O lançamento chama a atenção logo de cara pela arte incrível, ilustrada pelo australiano “Mitchell Nolte”.

 A Capa retrata um sacrifício humano, sob fogo, à divindade “Moloch”, que era representada com corpo humano e cabeça de touro, cultuada em locais como a Fenícia, Cartago, Canaã e Síria. Com o avanço do Império Romano e, posteriormente, do cristianismo, seu culto foi proibido, e a entidade passou a ser demonizada.

 O Blackened Death Metal da banda é desenvolvido com marcantes elementos Thrash, com as guitarras esbanjando técnica, como nos incríveis leads e solos da empolgante faixa de abertura “Forever Burning”. Há blasts em profusão, riffs velozes e dominantes e a utilização cautelosa e engenhosa de melodias, muito bem escolhidas e que fazem toda diferença.

 A maldade exala pelos falantes, e é canalizada eficientemente por meio dos vocais demoníacos de “D.” (NOCTURNAL GRAVES, HUNTERS MOON), oferecendo um tom gélido e provocador à obra.

 “The Liberating Fires of Moloch” é um som de enorme intensidade, onde novamente brilham as guitarras com dobras eficazes e riffs ultra velozes. A atmosfera remete muito ao WATAIN da época do grandioso “Sworn to the Dark”.   

 “Tongues Stretched Out for Salvation” é ríspida e brutal, mas oferece variações interessantes, rítmicas e em termos de vocalizações. As partes cadenciadas soam como se a banda oferecesse uma breve trégua, e funcionam perfeitamente.   

‘’ Darkness in the Eyes of Apophis” fala sobre a divindade egípcia conhecida como o Deus do Caos. Apropriadamente, soa ainda mais virulenta e intensa, com atmosfera sufocante. “Hung Like Swines” diminui um pouco a velocidade em algumas seções, mas as guitarras sempre resgatam a brutalidade e induzem à tempestade inclemente de blast beats.  

 O título “Burn This World and Start Again” é um dos mais legais que eu vi esse ano, e diante do estado atual do mundo, sua concretização não seria má ideia. Aqui a banda renuncia à velocidade, aposta em uma atmosfera mais sombria e guitarras mais melódicas, e o resultado é muito positivo.

 “The Opposer of Light” é um dos destaques individuais do disco. Nasce e segue agressiva, com um trabalho instrumental dos mais impressionantes. Sincronia absurda, bateria destruidora e guitarras de timbre assassino e melodias suntuosas.

 “Sunder the Living Temple” chega para encerrar muito mais atmosférica, com andamentos mais lentos e médios. Não se perde nada em potência e peso, e a banda retoma progressivamente o assalto brutal, sempre sob comando da dupla de guitarras.

 Excelente quarto álbum de estúdio do DENOUNCEMENT PYRE. Mantém o alto nível dos seus três antecessores, garantindo uma audição de extrema fúria e intensidade, com qualidade acima da média.

 Recomendável aos fãs de CRAVEN IDOL (GBR), NOCTURNAL GRAVES (AUS), GOSPEL OF THE HORNS (AUS), VOMITOR (AUS), WATAIN (SUE), DESTRUKTOR (AUS), NECROPHOBIC (SWE).

Australia has a legion of top-notch extreme metal bands, most of them mixing Black Metal with Thrash or Death, or even creating such a homogeneous and cohesive blend, to the point where it’s not possible to precisely determine which subgenre it belongs to.

 One of these exponents is DENOUNCEMENT PYRE, from Melbourne. Presenting itself today as a quartet, the band boasts a relevant discography, gradually assembled from 2004 onwards with a demo, four EPs, a live album, a Split with DIOCLETIAN and three full-length studio albums.

 Recently, the band started working with the Polish label “Agonia Records”, which has just released their fourth album “Forever Burning”. The incredible cover art immediately draws attention, an impressive and lavishly detailed illustration by Aussie “Mitchell Nolte”.

 The cover depicts a human sacrifice under fire to the deity “Moloch”, who was represented with a human body and a bull’s head, and worshiped in places such as Phoenicia, Carthage, Canaan and Syria. With the advance of the Roman Empire and, later, of Christianity, its cult was forbidden, and the entity, demonized.

 The band’s Blackened Death Metal is developed with strong thrash elements, displaying technically razor-sharp guitars, as in the incredible leads and solos of the exciting opening track “Forever Burning“. There are blasts in profusion, fast and dominant riffs, and the cautious and ingenious use of melodies, carefully chosen and highly effective.

 Evil exudes through the speakers, efficiently channeled through the demonic vocals of “D.” (NOCTURNAL GRAVES, HUNTERS MOON), offering an icy and provocative tone throughout the Opus.

 “The Liberating Fires of Moloch” is a track of enormous intensity, where again shine the guitars with thriving harmonies and ultra-fast riffs. The atmosphere is very reminiscent of WATAIN’s great “Sworn to the Dark” era.

 “Tongues Stretched Out for Salvation” sounds rough and brutal, but offers interesting variations, both rhythmically and in terms of vocalizations. The slower parts sound like the band is granting a brief truce, and they work perfectly.

”Darkness in the Eyes of Apophis” relates to the Egyptian deity known as the God of Chaos. Fittingly, it sounds even more venomous and fiery, with suffocating atmosphere. “Hung Like Swines” slows down a bit in some sections, but the guitars always recapture brutality, and induce a merciless storm of blast beats.

 The title “Burn This World and Start Again” is one of the coolest I’ve seen this year, and given the current state of the world, its fulfillment wouldn’t be a bad idea. Here the band renounces speed, bets on a Tartarean atmosphere and more melodic guitars, with positive result.

 “The Opposer of Light” is one of the album’s individual highlights. It is continuously aggressive, threatening with the most impressive instrumental work. Absurdly tight, well synchronized guitars and bass, hellish, unrelenting drums, and sumptuous melodies.

 “Sunder the Living Temple” is a much more atmospheric closer, with slower and medium tempos. Nothing is lost, however, in power and heaviness. The band progressively resumes the brutal assault, always under the two guitars’ fierce lead.

 An excellent fourth DENOUNCEMENT PYRE studio album. It keeps the high-quality level of its three predecessors, ensuring forty minutes of intensity and extreme fury.

 Recommended for fans of CRAVEN IDOL (GBR), NOCTURNAL GRAVES (AUS), GOSPEL OF THE HORNS (AUS), VOMITOR (AUS), WATAIN (SWE), DESTRUKTOR (AUS), NECROPHOBIC (SWE).
