CARCINOID – Encomium to Extinction (EP 2023)

O bom e velho death metal das catacumbas nunca decepciona. Guitarras suja, bateria direta mas com groove, vocais ultra podres, baixo estalando com ódio e composições que tem impacto. Os australianos do CARCINOID lançaram em Novembro um baita de um EP.

Apesar do tempo curto de duração, o death metal aqui oferecido cumpre muito bem o seu papel de propagar a podridão pelo mundo. “Lead to Worms” abre o trabalho e é uma faixa pesadíssima, com excelentes riffs e bases de guitarra. Perfeita para bater cabeça.

“Encominium to Extinction”, a faixa título, é mais brutal e intensa, com aquele famoso dois por um no prato de condução. Em alguns momentos, as guitarras te fazem lembrar dos mestres do Autopsy, mas o CARCINOID tem o seu próprio tempero durante todo o tempo. O baixo aqui grita alto e distorcido. O som dele é realmente foda.

Na sequência vem “Mired in Decay”, uma composição com elementos de doom metal, mas sempre guiada pelo metal da morte em sua melhor definição. Az e Nathan são os responsáveis pelas guitarras e se dedicaram com empenho a criar o melhor e posso admitir que isso aqui tá em alto nível de imundície. A brutalidade oferecida traz ecos do passado e referências do velho Grave e seu debut álbum “Into the Grave”. Podre e avassalador. Uma das melhores músicas desse material vem a seguir. “Morbid Curse” começa com uma atmosfera quase splatter e vai intensificando a sua violência. Há um groove presente que lembra realmente algumas bandas do estilo como o Carcass, General Surgery, etc. Faixa espetacular que equilibra bem momentos mais rápidos e sujos com outros mais lentos e pesados.

O EP se encerra com “Strangulation”, a mais longa do EP e que tem um foco maior na intensidade do seu feeling. O início é quase fúnebre, mas logo na sequência os caras baixam o braço com violência total. O CARCINOID criou um problema para si mesmo com esse lançamento. O que vier a seguir vai ter que manter essa qualidade e poder de fogo. Acredito que o show desses senhores deve ser uma experiência única de brutalidade. Quem sabe uma aparição no nosso Setembro Negro Festival, na cidade de São Paulo ? Seria realmente matador. Que venha o próximo álbum completo.

Good old death metal from the catacombs never disappoints. Dirty guitars, direct but groovy drums, ultra-rotten vocals, bass crackling with hatred and compositions that have an impact. The Aussies from CARCINOID released a great EP in November.

Despite the short running time, the death metal on offer here fulfils its role of spreading the rot around the world very well. “Lead to Worms” opens the work and is a very heavy track, with excellent riffs and guitar bases. Perfect for headbanging.

“Encominium to Extinction”, the title track, is more brutal and intense, with that famous two-for-one on the turntable. At times, the guitars remind you of the masters of Autopsy, but CARCINOID has its own flavour throughout. The bass here screams loud and distorted. Their sound is really fucked up.

Next comes “Mired in Decay”, a composition with elements of doom metal, but always guided by death metal at its finest. Az and Nathan are responsible for the guitars and have worked hard to create the best, and I can admit that this is filth at the highest level. The brutality on offer has echoes of the past and references to old Grave and their debut album “Into the Grave”. Rotten and overwhelming. One of the best songs from this material follows. “Morbid Curse” begins with an almost splatter-like atmosphere and intensifies its violence. There’s a groove present that really reminds us of some bands like Carcass, General Surgery, etc. It’s a spectacular track that balances faster, dirtier moments with slower, heavier ones.

The EP closes with “Strangulation”, the longest track on the EP and one that focuses more on the intensity of its feeling. The beginning is almost funereal, but soon afterwards the guys put their arm down with total violence. CARCINOID have created a problem for themselves with this release. Whatever comes next will have to maintain this quality and firepower. I think a show by these gentlemen should be a unique experience of brutality. Perhaps an appearance at our September Negro Festival in São Paulo? It would be really killer. Here’s to the next full-length album.
