BURIED SOULS – Zone 63 (EP 2023)

Falar sobre bandas que ainda se encontram no mundo da independência é sempre um prazer, pois nos deparamos com algo ainda em estado puro. Não estou falando de originalidade, mas sim da espontaneidade, algo que não é tão fácil mais de encontrar no mundo da música pesada.

Os suíços do BURIED SOULS lançaram em EP intitulado “Zone 63” no último dia 15 de Novembro e trouxeram um trabalho muito sólido e de qualidade. O death metal do grupo se constroi em torno de influências como Bolt Thrower, Grave, Napalm Death (em alguns momentos mais pesados) e tem algo que os colocam com um pé na sonoridade mais atual do metal da morte. Felizmente usam todas as influências com inteligência e apresentam músicas realmente muito boas.

A faixa de abertura é uma curta instrumental chamada “Lost in the Fog”, que prepara o clima sem grandes emoções para a faixa de abertura do EP, “Zone 63”, faixa que carrega o título desse lançamento ela mostra até mesmo, em alguns momentos, uma sonoridade que se aproxima do black metal, com um riff mais ríspido e direto, mas fora esse momento temos o death metal comandando o espetáculo.

A próxima é intitulada “Fuelled by Hate” e mistura bem as influências citadas no início da resenha. É uma faixa com bastante peso, riffs com aquele algo a mais e momentos mais rápidos. Há um certo nível de groove aqui que soa interessante, mas a faixa não se baseia nisso. Ela consegue impor um nível razoável de agressividade. Uma das faixas mais brutais vem logo a seguir. “Trapped” tem uma pancadaria de nível e riffs e bases de guitarra ainda melhores. Certamente é a composição que mais me chamou a atenção.

Finalmente “Zone 63” se encerra com a faixa “Shadow in the Sky”, com mais andamentos cadenciados e excelentes riffs. Esse EP é uma boa introdução para quem não conhece o som do BURIED SOULS, então se você tiver a oportunidade de ouvi-lo, não a perca.

Talking about bands that are still in the world of independence is always a pleasure, because we come across something that is still in its pure state. I’m not talking about originality, but rather spontaneity, something that isn’t so easy to find in the world of heavy music.

The Swiss band BURIED SOULS released an EP entitled “Zone 63” on 15 November and it’s a solid, high-quality piece of work. The group’s death metal is built around influences such as Bolt Thrower, Grave, Napalm Death (in some heavier moments) and has something that places them with one foot in the most current sound of death metal. Fortunately, they use all their influences intelligently and come up with some really good songs.

The opening track is a short instrumental called “Lost in the Fog”, which sets the mood without too much emotion for the EP’s opening track, “Zone 63”, a track that carries the title of this release. It even shows, at times, a sound that is close to black metal, with a harsher and more direct riff, but apart from that moment we have death metal running the show.

The next track is entitled “Fuelled by Hate” and is a good mix of the influences mentioned at the beginning of the review. It’s a track with a lot of weight, riffs with that extra something and faster moments. There’s a certain level of groove here that sounds interesting, but the track isn’t based on that. It manages to impose a reasonable level of aggression. One of the most brutal tracks follows. “Trapped” has a level of thrashing and even better riffs and guitar bases. It’s certainly the composition that caught my attention the most.

Finally, “Zone 63” closes with the track “Shadow in the Sky”, with its slower tempo and excellent riffs. This EP is a good introduction for those who don’t know what BURIED SOULS sound like, so if you get the chance to hear it, don’t miss it.
