Apesar de lançado em 2024, esse compacto com duas músicas só chegou às minhas mãos agora em fins de 2025 pelas mãos da própria banda e só posso lamentar não ter ouvido esse trabalho antes.
O TORCHES OF NERO foi criado em 2021 no Rio Grande do Sul e conta com alguns lançamentos underground que vem chamando a atenção da cena extrema brasileira e o motivo fica evidente nesse lançamento. O som que a banda faz tem muita qualidade e o que é raro hoje em dia, bastante personalidade.
São apenas duas músicas apresentadas nesse 7´ep, sendo elas: “The First Denial” e “Heil Hatzinger”.
A faixa título “The First Denial” é lenta, cheia de feeling e os efeitos usados na gravação criam uma atmosfera maléfica. Algo muito importante a ser destacado é que há uma certa originalidade na música do TORCHES OF NERO. É difícil encontrar referências para criar comparações, mas se for possível, eu pensaria em bandas como Samael (do primeiro álbum), Equimanthorn e principalmente a velha escolha do black metal nacional, que sempre investiu muito nesse som mais cadenciado e não ultra brutal, ainda que em alguns momentos específicos a herança do black/death brasileiro se mostre triunfante. A faixa tem todas essas características e soa poderosa. A vocalização é diferenciada em termos de timbres.
A segunda e última música é “Heil Hatzinger”, minha favorita nesse lançamento. Lenta e quase ritualística em sua essência, a faixa tem um refrão que, com certeza, deve ser ecoado pelos demônios presentes nos eventos ao vivo da banda. A faixa tem uma pegada bem anos 80 nas guitarras e bateria.
Talvez o único ponto negativo do trabalho para mim seja o volume geral da gravação, que eu achei baixo. Mais volume geral faria a música vir mais para a frente e soar mais impactante. Claro que isso é uma impressão pessoal e pode não representar a percepção de outros ouvintes.
A arte da capa é muito legal e lembra muito as ideias utilizadas nas capas dos americanos do GBK, com imagens bíblicas utilizando corpse paint… Uma capa totalmente em acordo com a ideia da música.
Certamente o TORCHES OF NERO é uma banda que irá crescer muito dentro do underground brasileiro e ficamos no aguardo de um full length.

Although released in 2024, this two-track EP only reached my hands now, at the end of 2025, personally delivered by the band—and I can only regret not having heard this work earlier.
TORCHES OF NERO was formed in 2021 in Rio Grande do Sul and already has a few underground releases that have been drawing attention in the Brazilian extreme scene, and the reason becomes evident with this release. The band’s sound has great quality and, which is rare these days, a strong sense of personality.
There are only two tracks on this 7” EP: “The First Denial” and “Heil Hatzinger”.
The title track, “The First Denial”, is slow, full of feeling, and the effects used in the recording create a malevolent atmosphere. Something very important to highlight is that there’s a certain originality to TORCHES OF NERO’s music. It’s hard to find references for comparison, but if possible, I’d think of bands like Samael (from the first album), Equimanthorn, and especially the older choices of Brazilian black metal, which have always invested in this more cadenced, non–ultra-brutal sound—even though in certain specific moments the heritage of Brazilian black/death shines triumphantly. The track carries all these characteristics and sounds powerful. The vocal work stands out for its distinct timbres.
The second and final song, “Heil Hatzinger”, is my favorite on this release. Slow and almost ritualistic at its core, it features a chorus that surely must echo through the demons present at the band’s live rituals. The track has a strong ‘80s feel in the guitars and drums.
Perhaps the only negative point for me is the overall recording volume, which I found low. A higher overall level would push the music forward and make it sound more impactful. Of course, that’s a personal impression and may not reflect the perception of other listeners.
The cover art is very cool and strongly recalls the visual ideas used by the Americans of GBK, with biblical imagery painted in corpse paint… A cover fully aligned with the music’s concept.
TORCHES OF NERO is certainly a band that will grow significantly within the Brazilian underground, and we eagerly await a full-length.
