Arrrghhhh ! Como é bom sentir o odor pútrido do verdadeiro death metal old school logo pela manhã. Em apenas duas músicas, sendo uma própria e um cover do Demigod, o NEPHASTO mostra que entende do negócio e principalmente sabe como criar uma atmosfera que mistura intensidade, brutalidade e feeling.
A banda é formada por Erika Osterhout, alguém que não precisa de apresentações se você faz parte realmente da cena death metal underground. A guitarrista e baixista toca ou tocou em banda como Acephalix, Cthonic Deity, Scolex, Necrosic, entre outras. A responsável pela bateria é a brasileira Luana Dametto, da banda de death metal Crypta. Se você está esperando ouvir algo na linha da banda original da Luana, esqueça.
O death metal apresentado pelo NEPHASTO abraça influências mais tradicionais e tem muito do velho metal da morte finlandês. Quando você escuta a única música original desse lançamento, a faixa título “Deformed Deviation” isso fica claro. Há momentos mais rápidos, mas o peso e o foco central da composição giram em todo do feeling pegajoso, de riffs com uma dose estudada de melodia.
A produção desse EP é excelente, com tudo soando muito pesado e orgânico. A performance dessas duas deathbangers é matadora. Erika tem ideias incríveis e um vocal maravilhoso de tão imundo (hehehe sim, precisamos de muita podridão vocal) e a linhas de bateria estão precisas, diretas e mostram que Luana entende realmente do que está fazendo.
O cover de “As I Behold I Despise” dos finlandeses do DEMIGOD – e lançada originalmente no álbum “Slumber of Sullen Eyes” – ficou incrível, com todo aquele clima carregado soando perfeitamente aos ouvidos de quem conhecia a música originalmente,
Finalmente a capa de “Deformed Deviation” é old school até os ossos, perfeita para a proposta aqui presente. Ficamos agora na expectativa que esse projeto não cesse por aqui. Um álbum completo é necessários. Congratulations Erika e Luana…

Arrrghhhh! There’s nothing like breathing in the putrid stench of true old-school death metal first thing in the morning. In just two tracks—one original and one Demigod cover—NEPHASTO shows that they know exactly what they’re doing and, above all, how to create an atmosphere that blends intensity, brutality, and feeling.
The band is formed by Erika Osterhout, someone who needs no introduction if you’re truly part of the underground death metal scene. The guitarist and bassist plays or has played in bands such as Acephalix, Cthonic Deity, Scolex, Necrosic, among others. On drums is the Brazilian Luana Dametto, from the death metal band Crypta. If you’re expecting something similar to Luana’s main band, forget it.
The death metal presented by NEPHASTO embraces more traditional influences and carries a strong dose of old Finnish death metal. When you listen to the only original track on this release—the title track “Deformed Deviation”—that becomes very clear. There are faster moments, but the weight and central focus of the composition revolve around a sticky, filthy feeling, with riffs seasoned with a carefully measured sense of melody.
The production on this EP is excellent, with everything sounding heavy and organic. The performance delivered by these two deathbangers is killer. Erika brings incredible ideas and a wonderfully disgusting vocal performance (hehehe yes, we demand maximum vocal rot), and the drum lines are precise, straightforward, and show that Luana truly knows what she’s doing.
The cover of “As I Behold I Despise”, originally by Finnish legends DEMIGOD and released on the album “Slumber of Sullen Eyes”, turned out amazing, capturing all that thick, oppressive atmosphere and delivering it perfectly to the ears of anyone who knows the original.
Finally, the artwork for “Deformed Deviation” is old school to the bone—perfect for what this release aims to deliver. Now we wait and hope this project doesn’t end here. A full-length album is necessary. Congratulations Erika and Luana…
