ULTHAR – Anthronomicon (CD 2023)

Eu não conhecia essa banda americana e chegou até a mim para resenha – lá e me surpreendeu, até porque eu sou mais aquela pegada mais old school do Death Metal e com Death Doom Metal, ou seja: sou mais das sinfonias lúgubres.

Esse trio com nome inspirado no clássico escritor de horror cósmico H.P. Lovrecraft, “Ulthar” é uma vila que encontra- se nos “Mitos de Cthulhu”, é formado pelos maníacos adorados do metal extremo bem executado, rápido e insano! Steve Peacock, no baixo & vocal, Justin Ennis, guitarra e na bateria, Shelby Lermo. Todos músicos com vários projetos/bandas no submundo americano.

Os caras executam um Blackened/ Death Metal de muito bom gosto!  Ou seja, dentro de suas composições você vai encontrar elementos do Black Metal, Death Metal e até Thrash Metal com muita fúria, técnica e melodias cativantes, com passagens atmosféricas aqui e ali, dentro desse grandioso trabalho. 

Como disse, me surpreendeu. E os caras, já tem vários trabalhos lançados e fazendo alegria dos insanos Metalheads, a banda surgiu em 2014, e sua discografia até aqui: “Demo/2016”, “Cosmovore”/2018” e “Providence”/2020” e além de uma compilação chamada “Nightgaunts MMXVI”/2022. E os caras ousaram em 2023 lançaram dois CDs de forma separada que é “Helionomicon” e esse que tive acesso e estou resenhando agora “Anthronomicon”.

São oito faixas com quase 41 minutos de música trabalhada com ótimos riffs, bateria poderosa alternando partes rápidas, cadenciadas e blast beat, um baixo firme e grave, e um vocal insano, que apesar de ser gutural da para ouvir bem as letras e as melodias vocálicas.

Os caras conseguem mesclar bem partes de Death Metal e Black Metal com guitarras bem trabalhadas, bases e solos bem inspirados, com melodias.

Todas as faixas são muito boas, mas eu destacaria as minhas preferidas aqui: “Fractional Fortresses”, que tem uma forte influências do velho Emperor nos vocais e nas passagens mais cadenciadas, e “Saccades” que vai mais numa pegada bem Death Metal rápido, mas de novo encontra – se elementos dos noruegueses nesta faixa. Eu achei influências de Behemoth nas partes mais brutais. O já citado Emperor, Dimmu Borgir e Testament nas partes mais Thrash Metal. A produção é muito boa, bem gravada e bem produzida. 

Eu gostei muito dessa banda  e se curtem um Blackened /Death Metal bem  trabalhado, extremo e com belas melodias, esse trabalho é ótimo.

I didn’t know this American band and it came to me for a review – there and it surprised me, especially because I’m more of an old school style of Death Metal and Death Doom Metal, in other words: I’m more into the lugubrious symphonies.

This trio with a name inspired by the classic cosmic horror writer H.P. Lovrecraft, ULTHAR is a village found in the “Cthulhu Mythos”, is formed by the beloved maniacs of well-executed, fast and insane extreme metal! Steve Peacock, on bass & vocals, Justin Ennis, guitar and on drums, Shelby Lermo. All musicians with various projects/bands in the American underworld. The guys perform very tasteful Blackened/Death Metal! In other words, within his compositions you will find elements of Black Metal, Death Metal and even Thrash Metal with a lot of fury, technique and captivating melodies, with atmospheric passages here and there, within this great work.

Like I said, it surprised me. And the guys, they already have several works released and making the insane Metalheads happy, the band emerged in 2014, and their discography so far: “Demo/2016”, “Cosmovore”/2018 and “Providence”/2020 and in addition to a compilation called “Nightgaunts MMXVI”/2022. And the guys dared to release two CDs separately in 2023, which is “Helionomicon” and the one I had access to and am now reviewing, “Anthronomicon”.

There are eight tracks with almost 41 minutes of music crafted with great riffs, powerful drums alternating fast, rhythmic and blast beat parts, a firm and serious bass, and an insane vocal, which despite being guttural, allows you to hear the lyrics and melodies well. vowels.

The guys manage to mix parts of Death Metal and Black Metal well with well-crafted guitars, well-inspired bases and solos, with melodies.

All the tracks are very good, but I would highlight my favorites here: “Fractional Fortresses”, which has a strong influence of the old Emperor in the vocals and in the more rhythmic passages, and “Saccades” which has a very fast Death Metal feel, but again you find elements of the Norwegians in this band. I found influences from Behemoth in the most brutal parts. The aforementioned Emperor, Dimmu Borgir and Testament in the more Thrash Metal parts. The production is very good, well recorded and well produced.

I really liked this band and if you enjoy well-crafted, extreme Blackened/Death Metal with beautiful melodies, this work is great.
