TROLLDOM – I nattens sken (Genom hemligheternas dunkel) (2022)

O TROLLDOM é uma das múltiplas encarnações do produtivo “Swartadauþuz”, músico Sueco proprietário dos selos “Ancient Records” e “Mysticism Productions”. Esse cara canaliza toda sua inspiração e criatividade a diversas bandas, algumas mais conhecidas dos Hellbangers brasileiros, como MUSMAHHU, BEKËTH NËXËHMÜ, AZELISASSATH, GNIPAHÅLAN, dentre várias outras.

 Falando especificamente do TROLLDOM, ele havia lançado apenas uma demo em 2016, com duas músicas extensas. O renascimento do projeto ocorre agora, e em grande estilo, já que o músico decidiu lançar, simultaneamente, este “I nattens sken (Genom hemligheternas dunkel)” “Sob a luz noturna (através da escuridão dos segredos)” em tradução livre, e um segundo álbum completo, o “Av Gudars Ätt”, sobre o qual falarei separadamente.

 A maior parte dos projetos criados por “Swartadauþuz” é voltada ao Black Metal, cada qual explorando aspectos e ambientações específicos, que acabam por diferenciá-los. Em comum, apresentam nível de musicalidade muito acima da média, personalidade marcante, atmosferas extremamente bem trabalhadas e uma recorrente aura doentia, marca registrada do músico.   

 O material de “I nattens sken” foi composto entre 2004 e 2008, e gravado em 2018. Musicalmente, trata-se de Black Metal tradicional da segunda onda, mais agressivo que a média e de músicas velozes, embebidas em elementos sinfônicos e atmosféricos. Soa brutal e misantrópico, apesar dos teclados relativamente robustos ao fundo.

 Aqui, fica cristalina a intenção de uma obra mais direta, menos épica e apoteótica que o outro álbum lançado conjuntamente. Faixas mais curtas, com atmosfera menos rebuscada e que atacam o ouvinte implacavelmente, desde seus primeiros acordes. Destaque para o trabalho impressionante de percussão, um arregaço.

 Tal intenção fica clara a partir da abertura com “Under vinternattens dystra fullmåne”. Os raros momentos atmosféricos são liderados pelos excepcionais teclados de “Swartadauþuz”. Já nos abundantes segmentos de puro ódio, caos e violência, fica a sensação de estar ouvindo algo na linha de “Panzer Division Marduk” com teclados e efeitos sonoros. Um verdadeiro atropelo.

 A segunda “Ondskans svarta broderskap” abre com riffs carniceiros, e segue flagelando o ouvinte sem piedade. Permite-se desacelerar em alguns momentos, com ótimo resultado. Os efeitos de coral ao fundo são de congelar a alma. “Nattens furste” ganha teclados que soam algo psicodélico em meio à brutalidade desenfreada. A reta final desse som ficou foda demais. 

 E tome mais pancadaria com “Inom nattens eviga rit”, dessa vez com partes em ritmo médio mais cativantes e bateria antiaérea. Incrível o refinamento que teclados bem sacados podem acrescentar a uma faixa, neste caso uma das melhores do álbum. “Nattmörkrets svarta skugga” cria uma atmosfera inóspita, que rapidamente torna-se uma espiral de desespero e hostilidade de proporções absurdas. Aqui, o lado mais doentio e sombrio de “Swartadauþuz” dá as caras, e assume controle.   

 “Vid hans tron mörkret vilar” inicia mais atmosférica, ganha ímpeto mas escala gradativamente rumo ao caos absoluto, e não o faz por meio da velocidade. Novamente, chama atenção o trampo de bateria desse álbum. Os arranjos e o vocal reforçam a demência desta criação abjeta, onde beleza e sordidez caminham abraçadas. Espetacular.

 “Dräparen av livets veke” retoma o ritmo mais turbulento e veloz. É um som tipicamente Black Sinfônico, mas sem massagem. Não espere nada que não seja extremamente ríspido. Na derradeira “Till ruinens svarta rike” sim, pode-se dizer que há um clima mais ameno. Ao menos considerando a insana realidade deste álbum.

 Excelente álbum do TROLLDOM. Gostei ligeiramente mais do outro trabalho que está sendo lançado em conjunto com este, o “Av Gudars Ätt”, confira a resenha dele também. Black Metal odioso da segunda onda, veloz e incrivelmente pesado. Atmosfera excepcional, com teclados muito bem compostos e postados.

TROLLDOM is one of the multiple incarnations of the artist known as “Swartadauþuz”, a Swedish musician who also runs labels “Ancient Records” and “Mysticism Productions”. This prolific gentleman channels all his inspiration and creativity through several bands, such as MUSMAHHU, BEKËTH NËXËHMÜ, AZELISASSATH, GNIPAHÅLAN, among many others.

 Speaking specifically about TROLLDOM, he had only released one demo, back in 2016, featuring two lengthy songs. The project’s rebirth takes place now, in style, as the man decided to simultaneously release “I nattens sken (Genom hemligheternas dunkel)” or “Under the night light (through the darkness of secrets)” roughly translated, and a second full-length album, “Av Gudars Ätt”, which I will address separately.

 Most of the projects developed by “Swartadauþuz” are focused on Black Metal, each one exploring specific aspects and environment, which end up distinguishing them. In common, they all display a high level of musicianship, striking personality, well-crafted atmospheres, and a recurring sick aura, perhaps his best and most particular trademark.

 Material comprising “I nattens sken” was composed between 2004 and 2008, and only recorded in 2018. Musically, it is traditional second-wave Black Metal, but a lot more aggressive than average and packed with fast-paced songs, steeped in symphonic and atmospheric elements. It sounds brutal and misanthropic, despite the considerably chunky keyboards hovering in the background.

 The intention here is crystal clear. A more straightforward, less epic and apotheotic work than “Av Gudars Ätt”. Shorter tracks, with a less far-fetched atmosphere, which keep scourging the listener relentlessly, from their first chords.

 Such intention is immediately made clear when the opening act “Under vinternattens dystra fullmåne” starts playing. The scarce atmospheric moments are led by the exquisite keyboards, masterfully played by “Swartadauþuz”. The remaining and abundant segments of pure hate, chaos and violence evoke the feeling of listening to something along the lines of “Panzer Division Marduk”, with keyboards and sound effects added to the mix.

 Next track “Ondskans svarta broderskap” opens with killer riffs, a merciless assault upon the listener. The song allows itself to decelerate during strategic few moments, with great results. The choir effects in the background are soul-freezing. “Nattens furste” has keyboards that sound somewhat psychedelic, amidst the rampant brutality. The final stretch of this track is just badass.

 The slaughter follows with “Inom nattens eviga rit”, this time with catchier mid-tempo parts. It’s amazing to witness the refinement that well-placed keyboards can add to any given track, in this case one of the record’s best. “Nattmörkrets svarta skugga” creates an adverse atmosphere, which quickly spirals into sheer despair and bitterness. Here, the sickest and darkest side of “Swartadauþuz” comes out, and brightly takes over.

 “Vid hans tron ​​mörkret vilar” has a more atmospheric start, gains momentum, but only gradually scales towards chaos, and does not do so through speed. The drumming work sounds outstanding, and not just at this point. It stands out thoroughly. Arrangements and vocals reinforce the insanity of this abject creation, where artistry and spitefulness go hand in hand.

 “Dräparen av livets veke” resumes a more turbulent and faster pace. It’s got a typical Symphonic Black Metal sound, but in a harsh fashion. Don’t expect anything fancy or friendly at all. The final act “Till ruinens svarta rike” has a somewhat milder vibe, at least considering this record’s deranged reality.

 An excellent TROLLDOM album, truly solid. I liked the other one, “Av Gudars Ätt”, slightly better though. Make sure you check out its review as well. Anyways, “I nattens sken” provides nothing but hateful second wave black metal, fast and incredibly heavy. Exceptional atmosphere with eerie yet elegant keyboards, very well composed and performed.

 Mandatory album for fans of the artist’s other projects, but also for fans of PAYSAGE D’HIVER (SWI), ARMAGEDDA (SWE), KATHARSIS (GER), CRAFT (SWE), PEST (SWE), GEHENNA (NOR), TROLL (NOR), MARDUK (SWE), DARK FUNERAL (SWE).
