Resenhar qualquer material do cultuado IMPRECATION é uma grande satisfação, porque os texanos de Houston (EUA) são uma verdadeira instituição do Death Metal estadunidense e mundial. Os caras vêm aterrorizando o mundo desde 1991 (31 anos!!), e apesar da longevidade, contam com uma discografia relativamente modesta.
Em 2019 o segundo álbum de estúdio “Damnatio ad Bestias” foi extremamente bem recebido, e reverenciado como uma das melhores obras de metal extremo daquele ano. Aquele mesmo ano os viu lançar um split com o BLACK BLOOD INVOCATION, e desde então a banda havia silenciado.
Três anos depois, chegou a hora do tão aguardado terceiro disco completo de estúdio, o implacável “In Nomine Diaboli”, disponibilizado via “Dark Descent Records” em CDs, discos de vinil, fitas cassete e formato digital.
Infelizmente, pode ser que este seja o último disco dos caras, já que o baterista original e cofundador da banda “Ruben Elizondo” faleceu em 2021. Sua performance no novo material (bateria e teclados) já havia sido gravada, e é digna do seu legado. Uma figura que faz e seguirá fazendo muita falta ao cenário da música extrema.
A primeira coisa a chamar minha atenção foi a arte de capa, uma sanguinolenta e impactante visão infernal do ilustrador alemão “José Gabriel Sabogal”, famoso por trabalhos prévios para WHOREDOM RIFE (NOR), SPEARHEAD (GBR), INFERNO (POL) e SINMARA (ISL).
Em termos de som, a banda mantém inalterada sua pegada tradicional, ou seja: Death Metal tradicional, de riffs odiosos, solos doentios, vocais inumanos e totalmente blasfemo.
Uma faixa símbolo desse trabalho é a derradeira “No Kingdom Awaits (Let Us Prey)”, onde ouve-se o lendário batera “Ruben” destruir o seu kit impiedosamente, com direito a muitas alternâncias rítmicas. Seu teclado também se faz presente ao fundo, conferindo uma atmosfera sepulcral ao som maléfico e torpe.
A maestria do IMPRECATION em desenvolver seus andamentos sinistros também pode ser conferida na fantástica “Ars Goetia”. A banda segue empilhando riffs memoráveis, e criando uma tempestade infernal irresistível.
Os momentos mais extremos estão reservados a peças como “Bringer of Sickness”, “Black Communion” e “Devil’s Furnace”, sempre concebidas com muitas variações, e até alguns elementos de Death/Doom em dados momentos, tornando a audição intensa e agradável.
“Thorns of Hate” é outro momento de grande destaque, onde fica claro o talento dos texanos em compor peças de puro ódio e selvageria com toques sutis, melodias profanas que grudam na cabeça de imediato e solos bem sacados, de inspiração Thrash/Speed.
Mais um excelente trabalho do IMPRECATION, sem pontos negativos. Deixo aqui meu respeito e homenagem ao grande “Ruben Elizondo” e espero que os demais membros sigam com a música, seja sob este nome ou qualquer outro.
Álbum altamente recomendado aos fãs de USDM na linha IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, BLASPHERIAN, INFESTER, DRAWN AND QUARTERED e FUNEBRARUM.

Reviewing any new material released by cult IMPRECATION is a great satisfaction, as the Texans from Houston (USA) are a true institution of US Death Metal. These gents have been terrorizing the world since 1991 (for 31 damn years!!), and despite their longevity, they have a relatively modest discography.
In 2019 their second studio album “Damnatio ad Bestias” was extremely well received, and revered as one of the best extreme metal works of that year. That same year saw them release a split with BLACK BLOOD INVOCATION (GRE), and since then the band had gone silent.
Three years later, it’s time for the long-awaited third full-length studio album, the relentless “In Nomine Diaboli“, available via “Dark Descent Records” on CDs, vinyl records, cassette tapes and digital format.
Unfortunately, this might be the band’s last album, as original drummer and co-founder “Ruben Elizondo” passed away in 2021. His performance on the new one (drums and keyboards) had already been recorded, and it is worthy of his legacy. A man which will be greatly missed in the extreme music scene.
The first thing to catch my attention was the cover art, a bloody and impactful hellish vision by the talented German illustrator “José Gabriel Sabogal”, famous for previous works for international acts such as WHOREDOM RIFE (NOR), SPEARHEAD (GBR), INFERNO (POL) and SINMARA (ISL).
In terms of music, the band keeps its traditional sonority unchanged, in other words: Traditional, blasphemous Death Metal, bred with hateful riffs, sickening solos, inhuman spiteful vocals.
A symbol track of the Opus is “No Kingdom Awaits (Let Us Prey)”, where the legendary drummer “Ruben” can be heard ruthlessly destroying his kit, with several rhythmic changes. His keyboards are also present in the background, offering a sepulchral atmosphere to the evil and vile sound.
IMPRECATION’s mastery in developing their sinister tempos can also be witnessed in the fantastic “Ars Goetia”. The band keep piling up memorable riffs, creating an irresistible infernal storm.
The devastating, most extreme moments can be enjoyed in pieces like “Bringer of Sickness”, “Black Communion” and “Devil’s Furnace”, always conceived with many variations, and even some Death/Doom elements at certain moments, forging an intense and pleasant listening experience.
“Thorns of Hate” is another highlight, exposing the talent of the Texans in composing pieces of pure hate and savagery with subtle touches, profane melodies that immediately stick in your head and well placed and executed leads and solos, often inspired by old school Thrash/Speed.
Another excellent IMPRECATION album, totally free of downsides. I hereby pay tribute and honor the great “Ruben Elizondo”, hoping the other members keep composing and playing music, whether under this moniker or any other they see fit.
A highly recommended album for USDM fans in the vein of IMMOLATION, INCANTATION, BLASPHERIAN, INFESTER, DRAWN AND QUARTERED and FUNEBRARUM.
