FROZEN BLOOD – Revenge (EP 2023)

O FROZEN BLOOD é um duo chileno formado em 2022, em Puertos Varas, Los Lagos, pelos lunáticos “A.A Sick Stabber” (todos os instrumentos de tortura) e S.A “Devoured of Christian Souls” nos vocais. Os caras, pagam um tributo ao velho Death Metal, aquele da primeira geração que tem Possessed, Hellhammer, e os primeiros Sodom e Kreator, que já foram classificados como Death Metal lá nos primórdios do estilo. É óbvio que essas influências dão o norte, para o tipo de som e proposta que os chilenos querem fazer. Mas não pensem que vão encontrar meras cópias aqui semelhante a obras-primas como: “Seven Churches”, “Obsessed by Cruelty” ou “Scream Bloody Gore”. São apenas influências e os chilenos de certa, forma é diferente porque além dessas influências clássicas também tem a fúria do Metal negro sul-americano e   deixa o som deles mais sujo, furioso e agressivo.

Ou seja, nada de melodias alegres, ou técnica demasiada, aqui é bruto, tosco e assustador. Esse é o primeiro trabalho deles,  o EP “Revenge” é composto de 4 faixas próprias e um cover dos americanos do Slayer. 

O  play abre com a faixa que dá nome ao trabalho. É um Death Metal tosco no bom sentido, é claro. Logo no início tem um teclado para dar um clima sombrio e guitarras pesadas e rápidas, com uma bateria direta e retona. Um vocal cavernoso e sinistro. 

As próximas são: “Castración violenta” e “Esquizofrenia podrida”. Que são vomitadas no idioma espanhol. A primeira começa com partes rápidas e vocal cavernoso e aqueles teclados traz de volta o clima sombrio e tétrico, com barulhos de ventos e sinos de igrejas com partes cadenciadas e rápidas. Riffs brutais, agressivos e contrabaixo dando suporte. A segunda é bem agressiva, rápida e mortal. Um Death Metal direto do fundo do abismo.

Esse trabalho não é para ouvidos sensíveis. É para metalheads “die hard” amantes do submundo e das tosqueiras, amantes da suprema arte underground. Metaleirinhos Nutella e de rede social, que gostam de produção pasteurizada, e músicos que só tem técnica e não tem paixão pelo metal não vão entender a proposta dos chilenos.

A penúltima faixa é “Mercilessly” e inicia com riffs poderosos com uma pegada Speed Metal e bateria rápida e agressiva, retona sem muitas variações. Mas logo cai no “deathão” e o teclado sempre dando um clima na música. Conforme você vai escutando esse trabalho, mais você vai curtindo e entendendo a proposta da banda. “O duo chileno” tem aquela paixão pelos primórdios do metal da morte onde prevalecia o amor ao underground/ metal e não tocar demasiadamente e sem paixão. Não que os caras musicalmente sejam músicos ruins não, mas aqui a proposta deles é outra. Aqui menos é mais, mais amor há causa ao espírito imundo do metal negro e mais paixão para música simples e direta.

Fechando com o cover “Die by the Sword” do matador Slayerrrrr! Não é fácil regravar um clássico! Só vou dizer isso. Escutem e tirem suas próprias conclusões! 

Com uma arte simples, mas que casa perfeitamente com a proposta da banda, ou seja: Death Metal em suas capas tem que ter ossos e caveiras. Mas já que tudo nesse trabalho é um tributo ao passado, aos primórdios, fora o logo que tá em azul, a arte tem que ser preto e branco. Layout / design por Glésio Torres. Encarte com fotos e letras, tudo muito simples, porém tudo bem feito.

As catacumbas da América do Sul sempre nos surpreendem e esses chilenos são a prova de que o submundo não vai morrer jamais! O Metal primitivo e suas raízes são fortes. Sempre existirá metalheads que entende o submundo e vão atrás do início e das raízes de tudo!

FROZEN BLOOD is a Chilean duo formed in 2022 in Puertos Varas, Los Lagos, by the lunatics “A.A Sick Stabber” (all instruments of torture) and S.A “Devoured of Christian Souls” on vocals. The guys pay tribute to the old Death Metal, that first generation that includes Possessed, Hellhammer, and the early Sodom and Kreator, who were already classified as Death Metal back in the early days of the style.

It’s obvious that these influences set the tone for the kind of sound and proposal the Chileans want to make. But don’t think you’ll find mere copies here, similar to masterpieces such as “Seven Churches”, “Obsessed by Cruelty” or “Scream Bloody Gore”. They’re just influences, and the Chileans are different in a way, because in addition to these classic influences, they also have the fury of South American black metal, which makes their sound dirtier, angrier and more aggressive.

In other words: no happy melodies, no excessive technique, here it’s raw, rough and scary. This is their first album, the EP “Revenge” is made up of four of their own tracks and a cover by the americans Slayer.

The play opens with the title track. It’s death metal in a good way, of course. Right from the start there’s a keyboard to give it a sombre atmosphere and heavy, fast guitars, with straightforward drums. The vocals are cavernous and sinister.

Next up are “Castración violenta” and “Esquizofrenia podrida”. These are spewed out in Spanish. The first begins with fast parts and cavernous vocals, and those keyboards bring back the dark and grim atmosphere, with wind chimes and church bells with fast, cadenced parts. Brutal, aggressive riffs and supporting bass. The second is very aggressive, fast and deadly. Death metal straight from the bottom of the abyss.

This work is not for sensitive ears. It’s for die-hard metalheads, lovers of the underworld, lovers of the ultimate underground art. Whimps, posers and social network metalheads who like pasteurised production and musicians who only have technique and no passion for metal won’t understand the Chileans’ proposal.

The penultimate track is “Mercilessly” and it begins with powerful riffs with a speed metal feel and fast, aggressive drums. But it soon descends into death metal, with the keyboard always setting the mood. As you listen to this work, the more you enjoy it and understand the band’s proposal. “The Chilean duo” has that passion for the early days of death metal where love for the underground/metal prevailed and not playing too much and without passion. Not that the guys are bad musicians musically, but here their proposal is different. Here, less is more, there’s more love for the filthy spirit of black metal and more passion for simple, straightforward music.

Closing with a cover of “Die by the Sword” by the killer Slayerrrrr! It’s not easy re-recording a classic! I’ll just say this. Listen and draw your own conclusions!

The artwork is simple, but it fits in perfectly with the band’s proposal: Death Metal covers have to have bones and skulls. But since everything in this work is a tribute to the past, to the beginnings, apart from the logo, which is in blue, the artwork has to be black and white. Layout / design by Glésio Torres. Booklet with photos and lyrics, all very simple but well done.

The catacombs of South America always surprise us and these Chileans are proof that the underworld will never die! Primitive metal and its roots are strong. There will always be metalheads who understand the underworld and go back to the beginning and the roots of everything!
