ENGULFED – Unearthly Litanies of Despair (CD 2024)

Apesar desse álbum já ter um tempo de lançado, eu só consegui parar, ouvir com calma e ser capaz de opinar com tranquilidade agora. Os turcos do ENGULFED já tinham mostrado todo o seu poder de fogo com o monstruoso “Engulfed in Obscurity”, lançado em 2017. Apesar do lançamento de um EP em 2020, a banda estava devendo aos fãs o seu segundo trabalho completo e 2024 finalmente trouxe esse álbum.

“Unearthly Litanies of Despair” é um evidente passo adiante na musicalidade do grupo e não tenho dúvidas de que o seu trabalho mais sólido até o momento.

Umas das características que havia me chamado muito atenção na música do ENGULFED – os riffs e bases de guitarra – continua a ser um destaque evidente. O trabalho dos guitarristas Mustafa e Can é algo matador. Há um feeling obscuro e uma agressividade que, quando juntos, criam um metal da morte da mais alta qualidade.

O baterista Aberrant espanca com ódio assassino o seu kit de bateria e cria linhas de bateria que se encaixam como uma luva às músicas que vão devastando o ouvinte, uma a uma, sem um pingo de piedade.

O som do ENGULFED trilha caminhos brutais, mas cheios de feeling. Isso é algo que podemos ver em faixas como “Voidwalker´s Dominion” e “Echoes of Suffering”. Enquanto a primeira é como uma pedra descendo montanha abaixo, a segunda é impactante na sua dominação de peso e velocidade. E como já citei antes, os riffs vão se sucedendo em ondas destrutivas.

Ouça “Infernal Desolation” e entenda como linhas de guitarra dissonantes criam a atmosfera perfeita para o caos ser liberado. Essa faixa me lembrou um pouco as faixas mais cadenciadas do Morbid Angel. Na contramão disso vem “Blasphemous Despair”. O mundo é despedaçado durante a execução dessa arma de destruição em massa. Grande composição e uma selvageria calculada que você encontraria facilmente no primeiro álbum do Hate Eternal.

Impossível não se surpreender com o início da monumental “Cursed Eternity”, pesadíssimo e com todo o feeling negativo do mundo. Até mesmo quando o caos se instaura, essa obscuridade não se dissipa. Uma das minhas favoritas, com toda a certeza.

“Ancient Abyssal Conquest” e “Occulta Incantations” dão continuidade e fechamento a esse álbum matador. A segunda é extremamente pesada e foca na atmosfera mais densa, algo que a banda faz com maestria.

“Unearthly Litanies of Despair” é um álbum sólido, bruto e pesado e vai agradar em cheio aos fãs do death metal feito nos subterrâneos do mundo.

Although this album has been out for a while, I’ve only been able to stop, listen to it calmly and give my opinion now. The Turks of ENGULFED had already shown all their firepower with the monstrous “Engulfed in Obscurity”, released in 2017. Despite releasing an EP in 2020, the band owed their fans their second full-length and 2024 finally brought that album.

“Unearthly Litanies of Despair” is a clear step forward in the group’s musicality and I have no doubt that it is their most solid work to date.

One of the characteristics that had really caught my attention in ENGULFED‘s music – the guitar riffs and bases – continues to be a clear highlight. The work of guitarists Mustafa and Can is killer. There’s a dark feeling and aggression that, when put together, create death metal of the highest quality.

Drummer Aberrant beats his drum kit with murderous hatred and creates drum lines that fit like a glove to the songs that devastate the listener, one by one, without a shred of mercy.

ENGULFED‘s sound takes brutal paths, but is full of feeling. This can be seen in tracks like “Voidwalker’s Dominion” and “Echoes of Suffering”. While the former is like a stone tumbling down a mountain, the latter is impactful in its domination of weight and speed. And as I mentioned before, the riffs follow one another in destructive waves.

Listen to “Infernal Desolation” and understand how dissonant guitar lines create the perfect atmosphere for chaos to be unleashed. This track reminded me a bit of Morbid Angel‘s slower tracks. In the opposite direction comes “Blasphemous Despair”. The world is torn apart during the execution of this weapon of mass destruction. Great songwriting and a calculated savagery that you would easily find on Hate Eternal‘s first album.

It’s impossible not to be surprised by the start of the monumental “Cursed Eternity”, heavy and with all the negative feeling in the world. Even when chaos breaks out, this darkness doesn’t dissipate. One of my favorites, for sure.

“Ancient Abyssal Conquest” and ‘Occulta Incantations’ give continuity and closure to this killer album. The latter is extremely heavy and focuses on the denser atmosphere, something the band does masterfully.

“Unearthly Litanies of Despair” is a solid, raw and heavy album that will please fans of death metal made in the underground of the world.
