DEICIDE – Banished by Sin (ADV. CD 2024)

Um bom lançamento dos veteranos do DEICIDE não pode vir sem alguma polêmica e a bola da vez foi a capa do álbum, que a banda admitiu ter usa inteligência artificial. Sinceramente ? Não ligo a mínima. Tenho minha própria opinião sobre o uso sem controle disso, mas é irrelevante nesse contexto. O resultado final me agradou, mas o que me interessa muito mais nesse lançamento é saber que a expectativa por um novo álbum do DEICIDE pôde ser alcançada.

E sinceramente ela foi alcançada sim. Há muitos anos o DEICIDE cria bons álbuns, mas eles passam longe dos desgraçados álbuns clássicos. A banda, apesar de continuar brutal, foi perdendo sua rispidez e selvageria. Mas fiquei muito satisfeito ao ouvir em primeira mão o novo trabalho do grupo, intitulado “Banished by Sin”.

Há muito tempo o DEICIDE não soava tão DEICIDE e isso fica evidente em todas as composições que fazem parte desse novo álbum. A faixa de abertura já mostra isso. “From Unknown Heights You Shall Fall” tem todos os elementos que fizeram da banda um dos nomes mais respeitados da cena death metal. Há riffs carregados e pesadíssimos, andamentos de bateria que quebram seu pescoço, mudanças de ritmo totalmente inesperadas e os tradicionais vocais guturais e gritados de Glen Benton. O que vem de bônus são os solos de guitarra, muito mais cheios de feeling do que antes. Não há dúvidas que você está ouvindo um som novo do DEICIDE. Tudo está lá. Já em “Doomed to Die”, a música segue em uma direção mais cadenciada, com mais bumbos dobrados e a bateria “martelando” seus tímpanos. Em alguns momentos vai te lembrar “Sacrificial Suicide” por causa das linhas vocais. Grande faixa.

“Sever the Tongue” abusa de uma tempestade de riffs tão pesados que poderiam afundar algum navio em meio às Fossas Marianas. Mais uma música que tem o DNA diabólico do quarteto norte-americano. A próxima faixa é brutal, mas flerta também com melodias, criando uma roupagem própria. Os riffs em alguns momentos criam uma percepção de thrash metal violento.

A melhor música do álbum vem na sequência e é intitulada “Bury the Cross…With Your Christ”, uma faixa curta, grossa e totalmente bastarda. O riff principal e o que acompanha algumas linhas de voz são realmente muitos fodas. Isso é DEICIDE no mais puro metal satânico da morte. “Woke from God” traz novamente alguns solos mais melódicos e é uma boa música e tem momentos realmente brutais, mas não vai muito além disso.

A rispidez retorna com a virulenta “Ritual Defied”, onde mais uma vez as guitarras comandam o show com seus riffs pegajosos. Esses caras estão chutando bundas sem piedade alguma. Na mesma linha vem “Failures of Your Dying Lord”. Nessa faixa o vocal de Benton soa até mesmo mais imundo.

A faixa título “Banished by Sin” começa com um riff de guitarra que soa muito black metal, mas isso dura apenas alguns segundos e logo em seguida a banda retoma suas características e entrega outra música diferenciada… e muito pesada ! As últimas três faixas são “A Trinity of None” (novamente o velho demônio se faz presente em uma faixa que soa poderosa e com excelentes atmosferas), “I am I… A Curse of Death” é outro destaque com sua porradaria e peso e finalmente o álbum se encerra com “The Light Defeated”, uma boa faixa. Alguns riffs soam um tanto bonitos demais, mas fecha com alto nível um álbum que realmente superou minhas expectativas, apresentando o DEICIDE executando sua música com garra, peso, brutalidade e a mesma qualidade de antes.

A good release from the veterans of DEICIDE can’t come without some controversy and the ball of the moment was the album cover, which the band admitted uses artificial intelligence. Honestly? I don’t give a damn. I have my own opinion about the uncontrolled use of it, but it’s irrelevant in this context. The end result pleased me, but what interests me much more about this release is knowing that the expectation for a new DEICIDE album has been realised.

And frankly, it has. DEICIDE has been making good albums for many years, but they are far from the dismal classic albums. The band, although still brutal, has lost its ruthlessness and savagery. But I was very pleased to hear first-hand the group’s new work, entitled ‘Banished by Sin’.

It’s been a long time since DEICIDE sounded so DEICIDE and that’s evident in all the compositions on this new album. The opening track already shows this. ‘From Unknown Heights You Shall Fall’ has all the elements that have made the band one of the most respected names in the death metal scene. There are heavy riffs, neck-breaking drumming, totally unexpected changes of pace and Glen Benton’s traditional guttural, screamed vocals. The bonus is the guitar solos, which are much more full of feeling than before. There’s no doubt that you’re listening to a new DEICIDE sound. Everything is there. In ‘Doomed to Die’, the song moves in a more cadenced direction, with more doubled bass drums and the drums ‘hammering’ your eardrums. At times it reminds you of ‘Sacrificial Suicide’ because of the vocal lines. Great track.

‘Sever the Tongue’ abuses a storm of riffs so heavy they could sink a ship in the middle of the Mariana Trenches. Another song with the diabolical DNA of the American quartet. The next track is brutal, but also flirts with melodies, creating its own flavour. The riffs at times create a sense of violent thrash metal.

The best song on the album comes next and is entitled ‘Bury the Cross…With Your Christ’, a short, thick and totally bastardised track. The main riff and the riff that accompanies some of the vocal lines are really fucking awesome. This is DEICIDE at their purest satanic death metal. ‘Woke from God’ again features some more melodic solos and is a good song with some really brutal moments, but it doesn’t go much further than that.

The harshness returns with the virulent ‘Ritual Defied’, where once again the guitars rule the show with their sticky riffs. These guys are kicking arse with no mercy whatsoever. Along the same lines comes ‘Failures of Your Dying Lord’. On this track Benton’s vocals sound even filthier.

The title track ‘Banished by Sin’ begins with a guitar riff that sounds very black metal, but that only lasts a few seconds and then the band gets back to its usual self and delivers another distinctive… and very heavy song! The last three tracks are ‘A Trinity of None’ (again the old demon is present in a track that sounds powerful and has excellent atmospheres), ‘I am I… A Curse of Death’ is another highlight with its heaviness and heaviness and finally the album closes with “The Light Defeated”, a good track. Some of the riffs sound a little too pretty, but it rounds off an album that really exceeded my expectations, showing DEICIDE performing their music with guts, weight, brutality and the same quality as before.
