CHAOTIAN –  Effigies of Obsolescence (CD 2022)

Preparado(a) para ter seu pobre traseiro chutado por mais uma formação de Death Metal da Dinamarca? A banda da vez é o trio CHAOTIAN, da capital Copenhagen.

 Formada em 2017, teve as duas primeiras demos de 2018 e 2019 muito elogiadas no underground, que renderam a compilação “Festering Excarnation” em 2020, reunindo as seis ótimas faixas em material físico.

 As gravadoras “Me Saco un Ojo Records” e “Dark Descent Records” mais uma vez associaram-se para trazer ao mundo o primeiro álbum full dos caras, o monolítico “Effigies of Obsolescence”, estreando oficialmente na data de hoje (24/06).

 A proposta é um Death Metal old school de elementos Doom bem equilibrados e excelente nível técnico, beirando o virtuosismo em algumas passagens mas mantendo os pés no chão a todo tempo.

 Analisando o álbum como um todo, temos como abertura “Gangrene Dream”, que cria um clima desolador antes de iniciar propriamente o massacre. O caos instala-se, e ouve-se o baixo explosivo e mega grave de “Jonas Grønborg”, as guitarras sádicas de “Søren Willatzen” e a bateria insana, de muita velocidade e precisão, de “Andreas Nordgreen”. Os vocais urrados são divididos por dois dos membros, ambos performados eficientemente.

 “Into Megatopheth” oscila agradavelmente entre passagens mais e menos velozes, em meio a riffs extremamente bem concebidos, alguns bastante intricados. Apesar da complexidade de algumas estruturas, é um som que cativa rapidamente. A banda sabe bem utilizar-se da técnica apurada, e não hesita em jogar simples quando necessário. Faixa sensacional.

 “Effigies of Obsolescence” dá uma boa acelerada, e tem um trampo absurdo de bateria. Soa ameaçadora e imponente, atacando o ouvinte com ondas devastadoras de agressão sonora. Os riffs principais ficam na cabeça um bom tempo. Leads tempestuosos e magníficos a finalizam.

“Adipocere Feast” mantém-se veloz e ultra pesada quase todo o tempo, e oferece menos variações. É integralmente brutal e hostil. Em contraste, “Etched Shadows” abre como um som tradicionalmente Death Doom, arrasta-se apenas para, subitamente, mostrar sua real e horrenda face, uma puta faixa de Death Metal tradicional, de acelerações grotescas. Estupenda.

 Após o atropelo perpetrado pela antecessora, “Fustuarium” não tira o pé e mantém a pegada psicótica, aproveitando-se dos poucos momentos mais lentos para conquistar com riffs bárbaros e um som incrível do baixo. Faixa bastante técnica, matadora.

 “Festering Carcinolith” conclui o trabalho em altíssimo nível, quebrando o pescoço do ouvinte com um festival de riffs podres e muita técnica dos três envolvidos. Curti demais o que o cara fez com o baixo na seção final da música, me lembrou o mestre “Steve DiGiorgio”.

 Álbum de estreia grandioso do CHAOTIAN. Arrebentou com as demos e tratou de lançar um disco completo que os coloca de imediato entre a elite do respeitável Death Metal dinamarquês. 

 Disco imperdível aos fãs de HYPERDONTIA (DIN/TUR), PHRENELITH (DIN), BURIAL INVOCATION (TUR), SULPHUROUS (DIN), BLOOD INCANTATION (EUA), DEAD CONGREGATION (GRE), ENGULFED (TUR).

Ready to get your sorry arse kicked by yet another Danish Death Metal lineup? This time, the perpetrators are the trio CHAOTIAN, from the capital city of Copenhagen.

 Formed in 2017, their first couple demos in 2018 and 2019 were highly praised in the underground, spawning the compilation “Festering Excarnation” in 2020, bringing together the six great tracks under physical material.

 Labels “Me Saco un Ojo Records” and “Dark Descent Records” have once more teamed up to unleash the Danes’ first full album upon the world, the monolithic “Effigies of Obsolescence“, officially debuting today (06/24th).

 Their game is old school Death Metal with well-balanced Doom elements and excellent technique, bordering on virtuosity in some passages while always keeping their feet on the ground.

 Analyzing the whole album, we have opening track “Gangrene Dream”, which creates a desolate atmosphere before properly starting the massacre. Chaos ensues, and you can hear the explosive bass by “Jonas Grønborg”, the sadistic guitars by “Søren Willatzen” and the insane drums, of great speed and precision, by “Andreas Nordgreen”. The low growls are split by two of the members, both performing efficiently.

 “Into Megatopheth” pleasantly oscillates between faster and slower passages, amid extremely well-conceived riffs, sometimes quite intricate. Despite the complexity of some structures, it is a sound that quickly captivates. The band knows how to use their refined technique, and does not hesitate to keep it simple when necessary. A sensational track.

 “Effigies of Obsolescence” accelerates furiously, presenting absurdly tight drumming. It sounds menacing and imposing, attacking the listener with devastating waves of sonic aggression. The main riffs remain in your head for quite some time. Stormy and magnificent leads finish it off.

“Adipocere Feast” remains fast and ultra-heavy most of the time, and offers fewer variations. It is thoroughly brutal and hostile. In contrast, “Etched Shadows” opens like a traditional Death Doom song, creeping a bit just to suddenly show its real and hideous face, a grotesquely fast and vicious piece of traditional Death Metal. Stupendous.

 After the abuse carried out by its predecessor, “Fustuarium” maintains the psychotic vibe, taking advantage of the few slower moments to conquer with barbaric riffs and an incredible bass sound. Very technical, killer track.

 “Festering Carcinolith” concludes this beast at a very high level, breaking the listener’s neck with a fest of rotten riffs and technical mastery by the three maniacs. I really enjoyed what the guy did with his bass in the final section of the song, it reminded me of the master “Steve DiGiorgio”.

 A grand debut album by CHAOTIAN. They deservedly harnessed a lot of attention with the killer demos, and wasted no time releasing a full-length that immediately puts them among the elite of the respectable Danish Death Metal scene.

 A mandatory album for fans of HYPERDONTIA (DEN/TUR), PHRENELITH (DEN), BURIAL INVOCATION (TUR), SULPHUROUS (DEN), BLOOD INCANTATION (USA), DEAD CONGREGATION (GRE), ENGULFED (TUR).
