Muita gente torce o nariz para bandas extremamente técnicas e isso é compreensível já que muitas bandas que abraçam essa característica se tornam muito tediosas. Principalmente quando a execução se torna mais importante do que a própria música em si.
Ao receber esse álbum para resenhar a primeira coisa que fiz foi procurar informações, já que não conhecia nada sobre o trabalho desses norte-americanos oriundos do Oregon. Quando vi que são classificados como “progressive black/death metal” já fiquei um tanto desconfiado.
Mas felizmente o termo usado é apenas um termo e musicalmente o Ænigmatum entrega uma música realmente interessante. Sim, o som é muito técnico e evidencia a qualidade absurda de cada um dos membros da banda, mas isso não é apenas uma exibição de talentos individuais. As músicas tem alma, soam coesas e entregam um sentimento envolvente a quem as aprecia com a devida atenção.
“Infinitude´s Passage” é um álbum que oferece uma variada gama de elementos musicais que se unem e se tornam composições poderosas. Não é um som lento, pelo contrário. Há brutalidade presente em todo o álbum, nada soa leve em excesso.
As linhas de baixo, guitarra e bateria são realmente muito boas em todas as composições e ainda que todas elas sejam longas, nada se torna cansativo, o que por si só já é algo de se tirar o chapéu. Outra coisa que me agradou bastante foi a percepção de que a banda não tenta soar como ninguém. Em bandas muito técnicas há sempre uma busca (mesmo que inconsciente) de soar como bandas como Death, Cynic, Atheist, etc…. Não é o caso. Tudo soa complexo e com uma cara própria.
As músicas que poderia destacar são a faixa de abertura “Pitiless Mechanism”, com sua violência calculada e linhas insanas de baixo. Os riffs são carregados de uma atmosfera obscura.“A Tamished Nexus” é outra grande música. Os momentos mais técnicos tem uma qualidade absurda e os riffs mais intrincados soam viscerais. Não esqueça de conferir mais atentamente a intensa “Nocturne of Ageless Reverie”. Pancadaria pura !
Um bom álbum deve ter uma boa capa e a arte aqui apresentada é realmente interessante. O ábum é apenas o terceiro lançamento do Ænigmatum, que quebra cinco anos sem um novo trabalho, mas que aproveitou cada minuto de espera para trabalhar em algo que possui uma qualidade certificada… Grande álbum !

A lot of people tend to turn their noses up at extremely technical bands, and that is understandable, since many bands that embrace this approach end up becoming extremely tedious—especially when the execution becomes more important than the music itself.
When I received this album for review, the first thing I did was look for some information, since I was not familiar with the work of these Americans from Oregon. When I saw that they were classified as “progressive black/death metal,” I became somewhat suspicious.
Fortunately, however, the term is just a term, and musically Ænigmatum delivers music that is genuinely interesting. Yes, their sound is highly technical and showcases the extraordinary abilities of every member of the band, but this is not simply a display of individual talent. The songs have soul, sound cohesive, and convey an engaging feeling to those who listen to them with the attention they deserve.
“Infinitude’s Passage” offers a wide range of musical elements that come together to form powerful compositions. This is not slow music—quite the opposite. Brutality is present throughout the entire album, and nothing sounds excessively light.
The bass, guitar, and drum lines are truly excellent throughout all the compositions, and even though every song is quite long, nothing becomes tiresome. That alone is something to take your hat off to. Another thing I really appreciated is the fact that the band does not try to sound like anyone else. With highly technical bands, there is often a tendency—conscious or unconscious—to sound like bands such as Death, Cynic, Atheist, and so on. That is not the case here. Everything sounds complex while still having a distinctive identity of its own.
The songs I would highlight include the opening track, “Pitiless Mechanism”, with its calculated violence and insane bass lines. The riffs are loaded with a dark atmosphere. “A Tarnished Nexus” is another great track. The more technical moments are of an astonishing quality, while the more intricate riffs sound absolutely visceral. And don’t forget to give the intense “Nocturne of Ageless Reverie” a closer listen. Pure sonic mayhem!
A good album should have good cover artwork, and the artwork presented here is genuinely interesting. This is only Ænigmatum’s third release, ending a five-year wait for new material. However, the band clearly used every minute of that time to work on something that possesses a truly remarkable level of quality.
