SHOW ME A DINOSAUR – Plantgazer (CD 2024)

Não há como não imaginar coisas terríveis quando você tem uma banda chamada SHOW ME A DINOSAUR para ouvir e resenhar. Felizmente os pesadelos não se concretizaram e temos aqui um grupo diretamente de São Peterburgo, na Rússia, que desafia convenções, navega por sonoridades distintas e oferece uma música muito interessante e foda do convencional.

O som do SHOW ME A DINOSAUR pode ser descrito como um “heavy post-rock blackgaze”, como o próprio press-release aponta. A música tem um feeling contínuo, melodias que são realmente agradáveis aos ouvidos e músicas que não soam pretensiosas. Obviamente não é o tipo de música que agradará a gregos e troianos, mas com certeza tem uma sólida base de fãs que irão apreciar imensamente a musicalidade desse grupo russo.

Uma boa música deve ser apreciada, independentemente de padrões pré-estabelecidos e o SHOW ME A DINOSAUR oferece isso com um extremo bom gosto. Apesar de você encontrar vocais em quase todas as músicas, eles são talvez o que de mais comum há na música da banda. São a manifestação mais intensa da obscuridade do seu lado black metal e devo dizer que isso encaixou realmente muito bem.

Não há destaques em termos de músicas. Gostei realmente de todas as composições. O álbum traz sete músicas, sendo elas: “Sunflower”, “Marsh”, “Red River”, “Selva”, “Unsaid I”, “Hum” e “Unsaid II”.

A faixa “Marsh” tem um trabalho muito interessante de vozes, que aliadas à rispidez do vocal principal, criam uma atmosfera diferenciada. Gostei demais da introspecção apresentada na bela “Red River”. “Selva” é uma música desesperada e passa essa sensação de urgência, de algo muito intenso.

A faixa que abraça o lado mais black metal do grupo é “Unsaid I”, uma música rápida, com vocais rasgados e momentos mais leves que criam o equilíbrio em meio a um turbilhão. O trabalho de bateria da música “Hum” é muito legal. Há algo do rock inglês dos anos 80 nessa composição. “Unsaid II” é o apagar das luzes nesse excelente álbum. Um trabalho que me surpreendeu positivamente.

You can’t help but imagine terrible things when you have a band called SHOW ME A DINOSAUR to listen to and review. Fortunately, the nightmares didn’t come true and here we have a group straight from St. Peterburg, Russia, who defy conventions, navigate different sonorities and offer very interesting and unconventional music.

SHOW ME A DINOSAUR‘s sound can be described as “heavy post-rock blackgaze”, as the press release itself points out. The music has a continuous feeling, melodies that are really pleasing to the ear and songs that don’t sound pretentious. It’s obviously not the kind of music that will please Greeks and Trojans, but it certainly has a solid fan base that will greatly appreciate the musicianship of this Russian group.

Good music should be appreciated, regardless of pre-established standards, and SHOW ME A DINOSAUR delivers that with extreme good taste. Although you’ll find vocals in almost every song, they are perhaps the most common thing in the band’s music. They are the most intense manifestation of the darkness of their black metal side and I have to say that this has really come into its own.

There are no highlights in terms of songs. I really liked all the compositions. There are seven songs on the album: “Sunflower”, “Marsh”, “Red River”, “Selva”, “Unsaid I”, “Hum” and “Unsaid II”.

The track “Marsh” has some very interesting vocal work, which, combined with the harshness of the lead vocal, creates a distinctive atmosphere. I really liked the introspection in the beautiful “Red River”. “Selva” is a desperate song and gives the feeling of urgency, of something very intense.

The track that embraces the group’s more black metal side is “Unsaid I”, a fast song, with raspy vocals and lighter moments that create balance in the midst of a whirlwind. The drum work on “Hum” is very cool. There’s something of 80s English rock about it. “Unsaid II” is the lights going out on this excellent album. A work that surprised me positively.
