ZOMBIE COOKBOOK – “Horroris Causa” (CD 2023)

Os cozinheiros mortos-vivos de Joinville–SC lançaram um novo trabalho “Horroris Causa”, (2023) que saiu pelo selo joinvilense Black Hole Productions e todo mundo que acompanha o submundo extremo sabem da qualidade visual dos lançamentos do selo e bom gosto do proprietário Fernando Camacho, para entregar um trabalho a nível profissional e assim fazer alegria dos metalheads. Mas não adiantaria nada disso, se a banda não entregasse um trabalho bom musicalmente, e não é o caso aqui, felizmente. 

Dismembered,(G) Clandestine,(V) Thombstoned, (B) Leprous (D) e Consumed (G) demoraram um bom tempo para lançar o sucessor de seu full length “Outside the Grave” (2012) que foi muito bem aceito pelo submundo na época. Mas antes disso os zombies catarinenses lançaram uns Splits e, entre eles: “Dementia Trash/Motel Hell” (2014) com os lunáticos curitibanos do Offal e “Among The Living” (2015) com o Rancid Flash. E os eps: “Motor Hell” (2014) que ganhou uma versão em vinil na gringa e “Dead Metal” (2020). O Zombie Cookbook, sempre criou boas expectativas em seus lançamentos com a horda de zombies seguidores da banda. Dentro da cultura underground, principalmente no death metal, as bandas sempre optaram por lançar splits e eps. Em “Horroris Causa”, quem acompanha a banda já sabe que vai encontrar muito death metal, thrash metal e passagens de goregrind e splatter gore, muito bem executados, com riffs poderosos, com peso e melodias, e bons solos de guitarras. A cozinha é segura, precisa, com peso e agressividade. Vocais podres na linha de John Tardy (Obituary).

Não tem como destacar uma ou outra faixa, pois estão todas em um mesmo nível e com uma ótima produção. A banda foi atrás de um produtor gringo e que desse um passo à frente em sua sonoridade. A banda buscou o produtor Robert Pehrsson (Death Breath) do Studios Humbucker, em Estocolmo, Suécia, que ficou encarregado da mixagem e masterização. E ficou foda! Quem já teve a chance de vê-los ao vivo sabe que a banda sempre trouxe algo mais teatral em seus shows e também algo mais sujo e visceral em suas capas e fotos. Um visual com aquele clima de filmes de zombies de baixo orçamento e suas letras sempre resgatam esse clima de filmes mais toscos de terror e quadrinhos. Se os amantes do death metal apreciam filmes como: “Night of the Living Dead”, “Braindead”, “Zoombie” e clássicos do trash movie e contos da cripta, o Zombie Cookbook é mestre nessa alquimia podre e doentia. Um grande trabalho de death metal!

The undead cooks from Joinville-SC have released a new album, “Horroris Causa” (2023), on the Joinville label Black Hole Productions. Everyone who follows the extreme underworld knows about the visual quality of the label’s releases and owner Fernando Camacho’s good taste in delivering professional work to make metalheads happy. But there would be no point in any of this if the band didn’t deliver good music, and that’s not the case here, fortunately.

Dismembered,(G) Clandestine,(V) Thombstoned, (B) Leprous (D) and Consumed (G) took a long time to release the successor to their full length “Outside the Grave” (2012), which was very well received by the underground at the time. But before that, the zombies from Santa Catarina released some splits, including: “Dementia Trash/Motel Hell” (2014) with the lunatics from Curitiba, Offal, and “Among The Living” (2015) with Rancid Flash. And the eps: “Motor Hell” (2014), which was released on vinyl in the UK, and “Dead Metal” (2020). Zombie Cookbook has always created good expectations for its releases with the band’s horde of zombie followers. Within underground culture, especially in death metal, bands have always opted to release splits and eps. In “Horroris Causa”, those who follow the band already know that they will find a lot of death metal, thrash metal and passages of goregrind and splatter gore, very well executed, with powerful riffs, with weight and melodies, and good guitar solos. The “kitchen” is safe, precise, heavy and aggressive. Rotten vocals along the lines of John Tardy (Obituary).

There’s no way of singling out one track or another, because they’re all on the same level and with great production. The band went in search of a gringo producer who would take their sound a step further. The band turned to producer Robert Pehrsson (Death Breath) from Studios Humbucker in Stockholm, Sweden, who was in charge of mixing and mastering. And it was awesome! Anyone who has had the chance to see them live knows that the band has always brought something more theatrical to their shows and also something dirtier and more visceral to their covers and photos. It’s a look with that low-budget zombie movie vibe and their lyrics always recapture the atmosphere of horror movies and comic books. If death metal lovers like “Night of the Living Dead”, “Braindead”, “Zoombie” and classic trash movies and tales from the crypt, Zombie Cookbook are masters of this rotten, sick alchemy. A great piece of death metal!
