GÓRGONA – Górgona (CD 2024)

A banda GÓRGONA de Cascavel do  oeste paranaense, apesar de ser nova, tem apenas 5 anos de vida e vários eps e singles lançados nas plataformas de streaming, e um Ep físico lançado em 2022 autointitulado “Live Álbum”. Eles acabaram de lançar o seu full length. O trabalho leva o nome da banda e são 11 faixas, pouco mais de 41 minutos, de puro Heavy Metal tradicional e com ótimas ideias.

Os trabalhos iniciam com uma bela Intro em homenagem ao mestre José Mojica, o nosso eterno Zé do Caixão. Eles mesmos recitam o famoso monólogo: o que é a vida é o princípio da morte… do clássico filme “A Meia Noite Levarei Sua Alma” com um instrumental bem sinistro, obscuro, uma das mais belas intro que já escutei. “Intro (Coffin Joe)” e é de arrepiar. E já adentramos ao mundo da GÓRGONA e seu Heavy Metal com letras de filmes de terror e muitas delas, influenciado por nosso Zé do Caixão, e só pela intro já sabemos que vêm coisas boas por aí. 

A segunda faixa, “Josefel”. Um Heavy Metal com teclados bem obscuros, bateria com uma pegada certeira, ótimos riffs e o baixo segurando tudo. No meio da música, tem uma parte com uma pegada mais viajante, meio setentista e me lembrou os suecos do Lúcifer.

Seguindo com a majestosa “Abracadabra” e que música perfeita. Uma coisa legal desses caras é que eles sabem mesclar aquela influência da N.W.O.B.H.M., do final dos anos 70 e início dos 80, com muita melodia, riffs de muito bom gosto, clima sinistro e um teclado que é tão importante quanto a guitarra ou o vocal, para ter uma ideia.

A quarta faixa já inicia com um belo riff de guitarra e o clima de “Under The Spell” vai crescendo e quando você menos espera, está batendo cabeça e cantando os refrões. O Heavy Metal sombrio dessa GÓRGONA não nos transforma em pedras, mas trinca a nossa moleira. Seguindo com as faixas: “Death Picture”, “Black Exorcism”, “Thy Body Will Burn” e “Tell Tale Heart”. Músicas muito bem executadas e com muitos sentimentos. Belos solos de guitarras, bases magníficas, baixo e bateria, sustentando o peso de forma perfeita!

Mas vale citar a melhor de todas, “Black Exorcism”, com duelos de guitarras e teclados, e ainda tiveram a ousadia de inserir no meio dela, uma bela homenagem ao compositor e pianista norueguês Edvard Grieg. O Savatage fez o mesmo na música      “Prelude to Madness” obra-prima dos americanos no álbum “Hall Of The Mountain King”.(1987). Agora é a vez de “Red Mask of Death” outra bela faixa com letras sob o conto de Edgar Allan Poe. E a banda não decepciona nunca! Sempre com aquele clima de Heavy Metal tradicional, com riffs, peso, melodias, bateria bem executada e o teclado sempre dando aquela pegada sombria. 

E as duas últimas faixas, “Headless Killer”, outra bela faixa, e tem aquela pegada do velho Deep Purple com o Heavy Metal tradicional, e no finalzinho dela algo me fez lembrar dos demônios dinamarqueses do Mercyful Fate e também Purple da fase setentista. Que belo instrumental! Fechando com a faixa, “Embodiment of Evil”. Com uma pegada mais cadenciada, um Heavy Doom Metal muito fodido! O álbum foi gravado no Embrio Studio, em Cascavel (PR) e mixado por Bruno Heleno. Arte da capa e layout por Darkpen illustrations.

Resumo da história: Fernandinho, guitarras e vocal, Ricardo Barros, baixista, Fernando Silva, bateria, Bruno Maximo guitarras e Luis de Oliveira nos teclados, estão de parabéns! O álbum auto intitulado do GÓRGONA ficou muito bom. Com ótimos riffs, melodias, bateria e baixo dando consistência e peso às composições, o vocal do Fernandinho é muito bom e com bastante sentimentos e o teclado é algo que dá uma cara, uma identidade para a banda. Se o metalhead aprecia Heavy Metal tradicional com influências que passam por Witchfinder General, Tygers of Pan Tang, Angel Witch e ainda colocaria aí o velho Deep Purple e também Mercyful Fate e letras de filmes de terror influenciado pelos filmes do Zé do Caixão e pensadores como Edgar Allan Poe e Oscar Wilde esse debut dos cascavelense vai explodir vossas cabeças.

The band GÓRGONA from Cascavel (Paraná), despite being new, is only 5 years old and has several eps and singles released on streaming platforms, and a physical Ep released in 2022 self-titled “Live Álbum”. They just released their full length. The work bears the name of the band and is 11 tracks, just over 41 minutes, of pure traditional Heavy Metal and with great ideas.

The work begins with a beautiful intro in honor of master José Mojica, our eternal Zé do Caixão. They themselves recite the famous phrase: what is life is the principle of death… from the classic film “Midnight I’ll Take Your Soul” with a very sinister, dark instrumental, one of the most beautiful intros I’ve ever heard. “Intro (Coffin Joe)” and it’s chilling. And we have already entered the world of GÓRGONA and his Heavy Metal with lyrics from horror films and many of them, influenced by our Zé do Caixão, and just from the intro we already know that good things are coming.

The second track, “Josefel”. A Heavy Metal with very obscure keyboards, drums with a tight grip, great riffs and the bass holding everything together. In the middle of the song, there is a part with a more traveling feel, a bit seventies and it reminded me of the Swedes from Lucifer.

Continuing with the majestic “Abracadabra” and what a perfect song. One cool thing about these guys is that they know how to mix that influence of N.W.O.B.H.M., from the late 70s and early 80s, with a lot of melody, tasteful riffs, a sinister atmosphere and a keyboard that is as important as the guitar or the vocals. , to get an idea.

The fourth track starts with a beautiful guitar riff and the atmosphere of “Under The Spell” grows and when you least expect it, you’re headbanging and singing the choruses. The dark Heavy Metal of this Gorgon does not turn us into stones, but it cracks our fontanel. Continuing with the tracks: “Death Picture”, “Black Exorcism”, “Thy Body Will Burn” and “Tell Tale Heart”. Songs very well performed and with a lot of feelings. Beautiful guitar solos, magnificent bases, bass and drums, supporting the weight perfectly! But it’s worth mentioning the best of all, “Black Exorcism”, with duels of guitars and keyboards, and they even had the audacity to insert in the middle of it, a beautiful tribute to the Norwegian composer and pianist Edvard Grieg. Savatage did the same on the American masterpiece song “Prelude to Madness” on the album “Hall Of The Mountain King” (1987).

Now it’s the turn of “Red Mask of Death”, another beautiful track with lyrics based on the story of Edgar Allan Poe. And the band never disappoints! Always with that traditional Heavy Metal atmosphere, with riffs, weight, melodies, well-executed drums and the keyboard always giving that dark feel.

And the last two tracks, “Headless Killer”, another beautiful track, and it has that feel of the old Deep Purple with traditional Heavy Metal, and at the end of it something reminded me of the Danish demons of Mercyful Fate and also Purple from the 1970s. What a beautiful instrumental! Closing with the track, “Embodiment of Evil”. With a more rhythmic feel, a really fucked up Heavy Doom Metal! To summarise: Fernandinho, guitars and vocals, Ricardo Barros, bassist, Fernando Silva, drums, Bruno Maximo guitars and Luis de Oliveira on keyboards, congratulations! Górgona’s self-titled album was very good. With great riffs, melodies, drums and bass giving consistency and weight to the compositions, Fernandinho’s vocals are very good and with a lot of feelings and the keyboard is something that gives a face, an identity to the band.

If the metalhead appreciates traditional Heavy Metal with influences that include Witchfinder General, Tygers of Pan Tang, Angel Witch and I would also include the old Deep Purple and also Mercyful Fate and lyrics from horror films influenced by Zé do Caixão films and thinkers like Edgar Allan Poe and Oscar Wilde, this debut from Cascavelense will blow your mind.
